“Holy shit!” Kurt exclaimed as soon as he saw the name of that night’s entertainment on the marquee. “You know Starchild?!”
Blaine chuckled and tightened his grip around Kurt’s hand, not willing to let go, even if it meant his arm was shaking up and down in time with Kurt’s excited bouncing. “We became friends while we were at NYU, and we made sure to stay in touch afterwards. I’d just finished law school when he got discovered, so he called me, and I’ve represented him ever since.”
“Oh shit, you actually know Starchild! I love his music so much. His vocals, the lyrics, his entire performance really. It’s all so gloriously out there, and I really admire how he basically said ‘fuck you’ to the norm and never hid who he was.”
“Hmm, yeah, we had to fight pretty hard for that in the beginning. It was worth it, though, and the record label never had cause to regret it ever since the first album hit the shelves.”
Blaine tugged on Kurt’s hand and directed him away from the crowds queueing up outside the venue. “C’mon, I know a shortcut.”
They walked down the block and around the corner, and Blaine tried to guide Kurt into an alley when Kurt pulled up short. “Blaine, what are we doing here? This really isn’t the best time to reveal you’re secretly an ax murderer after all.”
“Where’s your sense of adventure, Kurt? Just trust me. It’s just down here on the left.”
Kurt grumbled but followed Blaine anyway, “I swear to god, I will come back and haunt you for eternity if anything happens.”
Blaine pressed Kurt’s hand and smiled. “Somehow, that doesn’t actually sound like such a bad thing if you ask me.”
“Sap.”
“Only for you.”
They walked up to a big black door that immediately opened when Blaine banged on it. “Hey, Steve,” he greeted the hulking man guarding the entrance. “We’re here to see Ell.”
Steve gave Kurt a long once over before deciding that he looked harmless enough in his bright yellow skinny jeans and see-through lace blouse, and he waved them in without a word.
The dimly lit hallway stretched out in front of them, and Blaine led Kurt to a dressing room near the other end. The black door looked just like any other, and the only thing that marked it as special was the large sparkly star shaped sticker stuck to the outside.
“Are you ready?” he asked as he raised his hand to knock on the door.
Kurt straightened up and made sure nothing looked out of place. “Honey, I was born ready. Let’s do this.”
