When It's Right, It's Right: Biblical

I first heard this version of Calum Scott's song, Biblical, about a month ago, and it struck me deep in my soul. The raw emotion in the vocals, the simplicity of just having a guitar as accompaniment, the piercing lyrics... I listened to it few dozen times in a row just that day (and many dozens more time since then) and with each listen I was more sure that this was a Klaine song.
I strongly urge everyone to listen to the song at least once before or during reading. You won't regret it ;)

The day that Blaine finally did propose to Kurt started out like any other. It was a Sunday in spring, and heavy rainfall had dashed their plans of a picnic in the park, so they had a lazy day inside instead, never getting fully dressed and just indulging in being with each other.
Blaine had had the ring for weeks already, and he’d been stressing out over how to propose, rejecting plan after plan for not being grand or meaningful enough. He knew he wanted to serenade Kurt, but that was the only constant in his ever changing mind. Kurt had inspired him to dust off his songwriting skills, and the song was full of all the things he so desperately wanted to tell him but did not know how to bring up in regular conversation.
It was just after lunch, and they were sitting on opposite ends of the sofa with their feet tucked up and meeting in the middle. Kurt had stolen Blaine’s favorite hoodie after his shower and put it on over his yoga pants. His hair had been left to air dry, and he occasionally had to flip it up out of his eyes as he sketched out designs, the promise ring on his right hand flashing in the light.
Blaine was leaning back against the armrest, playing whatever tune came to mind on his guitar and occasionally glancing up at Kurt’s concentrated face. The rain was beating an accompanying rhythm on the windows, and it struck Blaine just how privileged he was.
Kurt, highly fashionable, always presentable Kurt, who took such pride in his appearance that he never even left to grab the mail without making sure his hair looked perfect, trusted Blaine enough to let him see that side of himself. To let Blaine see him with his hair literally down.
The complete peace he felt in that moment, the utter contentment to simply sit near Kurt and just be. Blaine knew that this was what he wanted to spend the rest of his life doing. The grand gestures and dramatic moments were nice, but in the end, this was all they needed. Just them, sharing their lives together.
Under the guise of a bathroom visit, Blaine sneaked into his office and removed the ring box from where he had hidden it and tucked it into his pajama pants pocket for now. He walked over to the sofa and picked his guitar back up as he sat back down as before.
Absent-mindedly, Blaine played some random melodies as he gathered his courage and nudged Kurt’s foot with his own.
“Kurt?”
“Hmm?” Kurt said without looking up from what he was doing. “What’s up?”
“Kurt, I’ve got something I need to talk to you about.”
Alarmed, Kurt looked up from his work, but the nervous, yet serene look on Blaine’s face reassured him, and he calmly laid his sketchbook and pencils on the coffee table, giving Blaine his full attention.
“So, I told you how, growing up, my grandparents used to take us to church once a month, right?”
Kurt indicated that he did, in fact, remember that conversation, and the good natured debate about religion that had followed it.
“My parents didn't usually go as they weren't very religious, but they did want Cooper and I to experience it and make up our own minds. As a result, I spent a fair amount of time reflecting on what religion and faith means to me.
"I know the word ‘biblical’ has spiritual connotations to many, but to me it's about unquantifiable love, a love beyond description or measure, a love of biblical proportions that transcends everyone and everything.
“I… Kurt, you make me feel so much that I can barely wrap my head around it. You are my best friend, my favorite cheerleader and the one person that I know I will always be safe with. You know I’m no good with speeches, but if you’ll indulge me, I’d like to play you this song that I wrote for you.”
Warmth bloomed in Kurt’s chest at the thought that Blaine, wonderful, creative and romantic Blaine, had written him a song. He tucked his legs up and wrapped his arms around them, laying his chin on his knees and giving Blaine an encouraging smile.
Blaine smiled back and lightly strummed his guitar a few times before he started playing in earnest.
“Didn't know that I'd fall so hard
That my feet left the ground
Gravity don't make no sense when you're around
I come up against myself when
Demons in my head get loud
I don't know how you do it but you turn them down
I slip and wonder who I'd be
If I never found you and you never found me
Well, I don't wanna see
Blaine looked up from his guitar and locked eyes with Kurt, letting him see just how much he meant it, how much Kurt meant to him.
So won't you give me tonight
And the rest of your life?
I wanna have it all with you
I wanna have it all with you
And when you open your eyes
I'll be there by your side
I wanna have it all with you
I wanna have it all with you
'Cause your love is biblical
Biblical, it's biblical
Tears welled up in Kurt's eyes and he hurriedly wiped them away, not wanting to miss even a second of this raw and emotional serenade.
If you evеr go to pieces
Fall between thе thunder clouds
I will put you back together, I won't let you down
I slip and wonder what I'd do
If you never found me and I never found you
I don't know what I'd do
Blaine’s voice broke on the last line, the emotions too much to contain, but he kept singing anyway, determined to make it to the end.
So won't you give me tonight
And the rest of your life?
I wanna have it all with you
I wanna have it all with you
So come on and give me tonight
And the rest of your life
I wanna have it all with you
I wanna have it all with you
And when you open your eyes
I'll be there by your side
I wanna have it all with you
I wanna have it all with you
'Cause your love is biblical
It's biblical, it's biblical”
Kurt had hardly dared to imagine what the lyrics might mean, but he could not hold in his gasp when Blaine put his guitar down on the floor and withdrew a ring box from where it had been hidden behind the instrument.
“Blaine…” he said breathlessly, eyes wide as they tracked the movements of Blaine’s hands.
Blaine cleared his throat and scooted over until he was sitting on his knees in front of Kurt. He grabbed his left hand in his right and rubbed his thumb over Kurt’s knuckles. With his other hand, he opened the box and turned it to show Kurt the ring that was nestled inside.
“All I want to do, all I have ever wanted to do since the day we met, is to spend my life loving you. So, Kurt Hummel, my amazing friend, my one true love, will you marry me?”
Overcome, Kurt could only nod frantically and he whispered his answer, “Yeah… Yes.”
Blaine grabbed Kurt’s face and pulled him in, pouring all the love, relief, and happiness into the kiss, their first kiss as fiancés.
“Are you sure?” Blaine asked Kurt, breaking the kiss and resting their foreheads together. “You did swipe left, after all.”
“Oh my god, you dork!” Kurt groaned. “Just shut up and kiss me before I change my mind.”
This song, this chapter, these boys... My heart is so happy 💕
Blaine's explanation is based on what Callum Scott had to say about his interpretation of the word Biblical, you can read the full article here.
Thanks for reading, I'd love to hear what you think!
