Realistically, Kurt knew that Blaine wasn't a dog. He knew that Blaine wasn't going to suddenly grow a tail and floppy ears and start running around on all fours, but he wasn't sure if he'd be surprised if he did. Because Blaine had the personality of the most annoying, adorable, excited about life puppy ever to have existed. The kind who could rip your sofa to shreds but look up at you with those eyes in a way that meant you couldn't possibly be angry at it. Kurt didn't even like dogs, but Blaine was helping him understand why people do.
When Kurt was younger, his aunt Beverley would bring her puppy Kip to all of the family functions. Kurt didn’t really mind too much, until one day when he retreated to his bedroom and was met with a horrific sight: Kip lying on his floor with a headless Barbie doll in its mouth; his Malibu Barbie dream house knocked over and covered in slobber, wrecking the new wallpaper and interior design plan that had taken hours to implement; shreds of handmade Barbie clothing littering the floor. Needless to say, Kurt was not impressed.
Despite this, Kurt couldn’t help but picture Blaine as a tiny, fluffy puppy with big floppy ears whose tail was constantly wagging as he ran around on all fours.
It seemed as though whenever Kurt was trying to study, he would be interrupted by a constant stream of texts or visits from Blaine which all asked him to go out for a while. When Kurt agreed, it would earn a huge grin from Blaine who would then proceed to take Kurt by the hand and run excitedly to his car, all the while talking non-stop about music, football, fashion, and whatever else had struck his fancy that day. It reminded Kurt of a puppy begging to go for a walk, and Blaine even had the puppy dog eyes necessary to convince Kurt to hold off studying for however long Blaine required his presence.
On the very rare occasion that Blaine did something that hurt or upset Kurt, he adopted this heart-wrenching expression which was reminiscent of a kicked puppy. Looking at his wide, downcast eyes and trembling lip, Kurt was reminded of how Kip had looked once his Aunt Beverley had scolded him for harming Kurt’s dolls. Unlike Kip though, Kurt found that he couldn’t possibly stay angry with Blaine when he looked like that because, although he didn’t like dogs, Blaine was helping him understand why people do.
