"Kurt!" Rachel said, holding her phone to her ear, even though the person on the other end had hung up. She slowly walked over towards her best-friend, the colour draining from her face.

"What?" Kurt asked, sitting up and twisting his body so that he was facing Rachel, running a hand through his hair. "What's up, Rach? You look like you've seen a ghost."

Rachel almost dropped her phone. She opened her mouth, but then closed it again, struggling to form the words.

"Rachel, you're starting to scare me, what is it?" Kurt asked, standing up from the couch and walked over towards her.

"T-that was Tina," Rachel choked out, speaking despite the lump in her throat.

"And?" Kurt prompted, reaching out and placing a hand on her shoulder.

"She tried to call you... but you weren't answering, so she phoned me," Rachel whispered. She barely managed to get the next sentence out. "They think t-there was... a s-shooting, a-at McKinley-"

Before she could get any further, Kurt had turned and ran into his room. He grabbed his phone, and stared down at the screen as his heart raced in his chest.

Blaine Anderson: missed call (2). New voice message.

Tina Cohen-Chang: missed call.

He had an obscene amount of unread text messages but he ignored those. He'd read them later.

Kurt quickly unlocked his phone and sat down on the edge of his bed as he held it to his ear, listening to the voice message.

"Kurt-"

He hung up.

The choked out sob of his name made tears well in his eyes. He never wanted Blaine's voice – Blaine's beautiful, wonderful, amazing, gorgeous voice – to sound like that ever again. He fumbled about with his phone before finally dialling Blaine's number and holding it to his ear, blinking back the tears in his eyes.

"Blaine, c'mon, please pick up. Please, let him be okay," Kurt whispered to himself, whispering please under his breath and praying to a God that he didn't believe in to make Blaine be okay.

Blaine had to be okay.

Finally, after what seemed like forever, Blaine picked up and Kurt exhaled a shaking sigh of relief.

"Kurt?" Blaine answered, smiling a little to himself, despite the situation that had just occurred. It was a relief to hear Kurt's voice; he thought he'd never get to hear it again... that thought terrified him.

"Oh, thank God you're alright. I'm so sorry, my phone was on silent in my room a-and I didn't hear it. I'm so sorry, Blaine. I'm so so so sorry!"

"Woah, Kurt why are you apologizing, I'm fine, I'm alright, it's not your fault," Blaine replied.

Kurt had never been so grateful to hear a voice in his life.

"I know it's just, don't scare me like that again. I thought..." he stopped, drawing in a deep breath. "I thought you were, I thought something had happened to you Blaine. A-and I just, you're alright, right? Nobody's hurt?"

"Nobody's hurt, Kurt. We're all safe now."

"Thank God," Kurt breathed out, his heart calming a little. "I thought I'd lost you."

"You'll never lose me, Kurt. Not ever," Blaine said, and he meant it.

Kurt smiled softly. "Never?"

"Never ever."

"You promise?" Kurt asked, feeling a little childish for making Blaine promise, but ignoring it anyway. He knew Blaine wouldn't mind, he was probably smiling on the other end of the line. It was probably one of those goofy ones that Blaine would smile whenever Kurt was being adorable.

"I promise."

And yeah, Kurt could hear the smile in his voice.
