Among the tulips
There were two old men sitting in the park, on a blanket near the pond. Surrounded by hundreds of tulips, in all the colours you could imagine. It was their favourite spot in whole of Amsterdam. They sat there almost every day in the summer. This is set in the same universe as my story 'Till the end of eternity', it could be read on it's own, but I recommend that you read Till the end of eternity first.

June 1970
There were two old men sitting in the park, on a blanket near the pond. Surrounded by hundreds of tulips, in all the colours you could imagine. It was their favourite spot in whole of Amsterdam. They sat there almost every day in the summer. They had ever since they had first come here. They had found the spot the first week they had spent in Amsterdam, back in 1946.
They even came here that often that people had started to talk about them. People knew who they were. Almost everyone in Amsterdam knew who the two old men among the tulips were. Not everyone knew their names. But most had at least heard of them.
All the small restaurants and coffee shops around the park, and the little house there they lived, knew them. They knew their orders, their names.
Blaine Anderson and Kurt Hummel.
The florist in the area knew exactly which kind of tulips Blaine wanted for Kurt on his birthday, and they knew which Kurt wanted when he was about to take Blaine on one of his surprise dates.
But all of the people let them be, they let them sit there on their blanket, near the pond, surrounded by all the tulips. They didnt need to talk to them, or even walk close to know what they were doing, to know why they were sitting there.
It was enough to see the joy in Blaines eyes when Kurt was talking to him, or to see the smile on Kurts face when Blaine took out his guitar and played him a tune.
It was enough to hear them sing with each other. The Beatles, Elvis, songs from musicals. Some were original songs.
It was more than enough to see Blaine grab Kurts hand and bring it to his lips and kiss it. When you saw them hold hands when they walked home in the evening. Or when you had seen them just sitting turned against each other, doing nothing but staring each other deep into the eyes. They could sit like that forever.
Just that day, in June 1970, they werent really doing anything. They just sat there. Looking into each others eyes, holding hands. Watching the people walk by, counting the clouds in the sky. Planning their future wedding, the one they would eventually have, when it got legal. When everyone else understood the meaning of true love.
