Blaine isn't his usual self today. What has caused this change in his behavior? Will Kurt be able to help him?
Usually, Blaine is a very cheery, up-beat and happy person. He is so bubbly and energetic sometimes that you just want to grab and hold him tight for a while so he stands still for at least a few minutes. Today though, Blaine isn’t anything of these things. Today he is quiet, his few smiles don’t reach his eyes and he barely says a word.
Kurt notices the change in his boyfriend pretty quickly of course. It’s the first time he has ever seen Blaine like this for almost a whole day. So still, without that typical sparkle shining in his eyes. It worries him. A lot.
As Kurt parks in front of Blaine’s house after a short shopping trip together, Kurt decides to find out what is bothering his boyfriend. He is used to it by now that Blaine doesn’t spill whatever is going on in his head that easily. He has to work for it, he knows, but he has to start somewhere.
“Blaine, are you ok?” Kurt turns off the engine of his car as he looks at his boyfriend intently.
“Of course. Why wouldn’t I be?” Blaine answers shortly with another fake smile, unbuckling his seat belt at the same time before climbing out the car. Kurt expected this but he still can’t stop the sigh from coming out his mouth. Why can’t Blaine just tell him what is going on? His boyfriend should know that Kurt will find out eventually. He always does.

They sit together on Blaine’s bed, watching some TV to relax some after their shopping trip. Kurt is munching away on M&M’s while Blaine sips a bit of his water here and there. This is quite unusual but Kurt doesn’t think any of it … yet.
“You want some?” Kurt holds out the bag of candy to his boyfriend, eyes still focused on the TV.
“No, thanks.” With a small sigh, Blaine once again grabs his glass of water.
For the next twenty minutes they silently watch one of Kurt’s favorite TV shows. Kurt feels comfortable between his boyfriend’s legs, enjoying Blaine’s hands massaging his shoulders for a little while. He is still worried about Blaine but he knows that he has to give him a little time, asking every five minutes won’t get him anywhere with his boyfriend.
As Kurt runs out of M&M’s he feels the need for ice-cream. Thankfully, Blaine’s family always has ice-cream around. It’s really no surprise that Blaine has turned out to be such a sweet-tooth. Usually, he is, at least.
“I am in the mood for ice-cream. You want some, too?” Kurt asks, turning around to look into his love’s face. It is already unusual that Blaine turned down M&M’s but he would never turn down ice-cream. Never.
“Thanks, but I am not hungry.” Blaine tries to smile at Kurt, but even he knows that it’s as convincing as Rachel Berry trying to be modest.
“Blaine, what is going on? You are worrying me,” Kurt says, his body turned completely towards Blaine now. What is wrong with his boyfriend? Yesterday everything was fine, Blaine was his usual self but today? Today Blaine is not … Blaine.
“Nothing. I am fine. Don’t worry, Kurt. Please.” Blaine grabs one of Kurt’s hands and squeezes it. The last thing he wants is to worry his lover.
“You are lying to me and that makes me sad.” A short moment later Kurt pulls his hand back and gets up to leave the room. He doesn’t understand why Blaine can’t tell him what is going on. What is upsetting him so much that causes this change in his behavior?
“Kurt, I - ,” escapes Blaine’s mouth before Kurt has the chance to walk away. He feels terrible about upsetting Kurt. He doesn’t need a sad and upset boyfriend on top of it all.
Kurt turns around, hope in his eyes. Hope that Blaine will finally reveal what’s on his mind. He sits back down and faces Blaine. In return Blaine takes both of Kurt’s hands in his and holds them tightly.
“I … this is really embarrassing for me, Kurt.” Blaine begins, then takes a deep breath.
“You can tell me anything, Blaine. I won’t judge you,” Kurt says soothingly, running his thumbs over the backs of Blaine’s hands.
Before Blaine can continue a flash of pain shoots through one of his back teeth. A hiss comes out of his mouth while one of his hands holds his right cheek.
“Blaine!” Kurt’s free hand immediately goes to Blaine’s neck, massaging the muscles there, trying to help his boyfriend through the pain.
The flash of pain takes Blaine by surprise. It’s the first time his tooth is making it that clear that something is wrong. He moans as he feels the tooth pulsing strongly.
“You have to go to a dentist, Blaine,” Kurt says, still massaging his lover’s neck. He doesn’t know if he should feel relieved that he most likely knows what has been upsetting his boyfriend the whole day. Blaine is in pain and that is something Kurt never wants for him.
“But … maybe … if I wait, then - ,” Blaine wants to argue but gets cut off before he can even finish his thought.
“No, Blaine. It’s only going to get worse.” Kurt gets off the bed and walks over to where they put their jackets earlier after their shopping trip. It hurts Kurt to see that pain in Blaine’s face. He never wants to see it there again after this.
“Kurt, I … I hate the dentist,” Blaine says with a pained voice. He has always hated going to the dentist. Ever since a traumatic experience as a child he has avoided dentists like the plague though.
“Blaine,” Kurt replies compassionately. After grabbing their jackets he walks back to the bed where Blaine is still seated, cheek in hand. “We really have to take care of this. It will only get worse if we don’t go. Just think of the relief once it’s all over and the pain is gone.”
Kurt’s arguments are very convincing. After thinking about it for a moment, Blaine nods. “Okay, but you will come with me, right?” He winces as another flash of pain radiates through his back tooth.
“Of course. I will even hold your hand the whole time if you want me to.” Kurt holds out his hand, waiting for Blaine to grab it. “Thank you,” Blaine says while letting himself being pulled off the bed. “You are the best.”
“I just want my boyfriend to be well again. I can’t stand seeing you in pain.” Kurt gently runs one of his hands over Blaine’s left lower arm. A warm smile appears on Blaine’s pained face. “Just for the record, this meany tooth is what’s been bothering you all day, right?”
“Yeah. It hasn’t been this bad until now though. I am sorry for not telling you right away. I was just ashamed.” Blaine confesses, turning away his face slightly to avoid his boyfriend’s gaze.
“Don’t be, Blaine. Don’t be ashamed. I get it. Dentists can be quite scary.” Kurt puts on his jacket quickly so he can help Blaine to put on his. He knows Blaine could do it himself but what can you do? He just wants to take care of his lover. “Now come on. The sooner we get started, the sooner it’s over.”
Blaine shows Kurt another small smile before he takes one of Kurt’s hands in his and lets himself be pulled out of his room.

An hour later both boys lie comfortably on Blaine’s bed again, resting while watching another episode of “America’s Next Top model”.
“Can’t wait for the anesthesia to wear off. My mouth feels funny.” Blaine touches his numb right upper lip. The dentist visit wasn’t really bad at all. The doctor was nice, treatment was painless and quick, and of course it helped to have his boyfriend with him the whole time.
“I am sure it will. It’s definitely better than the pain though, right?” Kurt comments, sipping at his Coke.
“Definitely,” Blaine replies with a smile. “Thanks again for getting my ass to the dentist. And for being there with me. I should write a song about it.”
A laugh escapes Kurt’s mouth at the last comment. “You are crazy,” he says before pecking his boyfriend’s mouth briefly.
“I can live with that.” Blaine grins at Kurt, a song idea already forming in his mind.
End Notes: This is my first Klaine fic ever, so please be gentle :)
