Kurt usually loved his evening walks with Blaine. But this time it was different. And what upset him the most was the fact that Blaine seemed oblivious to what was bothering him.
"Don't you just love these warm autumn nights?" Blaine asked, strolling alongside Kurt. He took a deep sniff before exhaling with a contented sigh. "The smell of grass still wet with rain, it's something you wouldn't expect in this concrete jungle…"
Kurt hummed noncommittally as they kept walking, his arms crossed against his chest and eyes focused on a fixed, distant spot.
Blaine peered sideways at his boyfriend, smirking to himself as he spotted the obvious annoyance on Kurt's beautiful face. He continued his train of thought. "It was the first thing that struck me about Manhattan, you know? Nobody would expect there to be so many green spots here; there are like parks and squares and-"
"Exactly!" Kurt spat, as stopped in his tracks and twirled around. "There are dozens of parks in Manhattan, which is why I can't believe that of ALL places you brought me here!"
Blaine opened his mouth to answer but was cut off by the furious sob that escaped Kurt's throat.
Kurt slapped his hand against his mouth and shook his head furiously. "Dammit Blaine, why Battery Park?"
Blaine closed the gap between them and wrapped his arms around his boyfriend, who remained frozen in his stance.
"Kurt, I-"
"Don't you even remember?" Kurt breathed.
Pressing his forehead against Kurt's temple, Blaine let out a soft, bitter chuckle. "How could I forget? This is where I made the worst mistake of my life." He took Kurt's hand into his, smiling as his boyfriend relaxed in his arms and finally met his eyes.
"I was so stupid back then…" Blaine shrugged helplessly. "I loved you so much, but the separation was just tearing me apart."
"So you broke up with me." Kurt muttered.
"Like I said, it was stupid." Blaine answered. "That's actually why we are here tonight."
Kurt frowned in confusion. "What?"
Blaine took a deep breath. "Here in Battery Park, I made the worst mistake ever, because I loved you so much that I couldn't live without you. So… tonight, here in Battery Park, I would like to make the best decision of my life, because I love you so much that I can't live without you… Kurt."
Kurt giggled and cried at the same time as Blaine lowered himself onto one knee and asked the question that was met with a 'YES' so loud it chased away a few stray pigeons on the other side of the park.
