Kurt was unsure of how much time had passed. Several hours prior he had set out to finish his college applications. He had, but now all the envelopes lay scattered around him on the bed and one Blaine Anderson was half in his lap, clinging to him. Kurt sat with his back against his headboard, Blaine had his arms wrapped around Kurt’s mid-section, head resting on his arm and Kurt’s middle.

“I hate this.” Blaine whispered for the thousandth time, glaring at the applications like they had done him wrong. And maybe they had – or would, anyway.

“It’ll be ok.” Kurt said soothingly, running his fingers through his boyfriend’s free curls.

“I only just got you. Why do we have to be apart again?”

“We’re not gonna be apart. At least, not for another year.”

“It’s just not fair.” Blaine whispered, turning his head so his face was buried in Kurt’s stomach. “If I hadn’t been held back this wouldn’t be a problem.” Came his muffled weep.

“That wasn’t your fault and you know it.” Kurt said, almost warningly, pausing in the hair-stroking.

“You’re right. It’s not.” Blaine said, turning to look up at Kurt, anger flashing in his eyes. “If those…those assholes hadn’t kicked the shit out of me at that dance I wouldn’t have been in the hospital for so long and wouldn’t have missed so much school.” More tears welled up in Blaine’s eyes, “They were tearing us apart before we even had us. I hate them.” He whispered, burying his face once again.

“But without them we would have never met.” Blaine didn’t remove his face from his boyfriend’s stomach, but he did let out a confused sound. “As much as I despise those disgusting closed-minded assholes and wish them nothing but pain and sorrow…if they hadn’t done that to you you would have never gone to Dalton, and I never would have found you there.” Kurt said, resuming stroking Blaine’s hair. “Despite the crap homophobic meatheads have put us through they did bring us together, in a twisted sort of way.”

“But now they’re breaking us apart again.”

“It won’t be that bad, Blaine. It’s only one year. And you can come visit me, and I’ll come visit you all the time. And we’ll call, and text, and skype, and all that good stuff. I won’t let a day go by without hearing your voice.” Kurt leaned down and placed a kiss on Blaine’s head before running his fingers through his curls again. “I promise.”

Blaine sniffled and turned to look up at Kurt again. “Why is the universe against us? Why can’t we just have it easy for once?”

“Because nothing worth having comes easy.” Kurt said with a smile.

Blaine sniffled, sitting up. “I love you, Kurt.”

“I love you too, Blaine...no 600 miles - or 12 hundred miles or 12 millions miles, for that matter – is ever going to change that.”
