Kurt and Blaine sat together in Kurt's backyard, their tea party abandoned in favour of playing with their collection of Disney prince and princess dolls.
Each boy had a small collection, but they shared with each other on their play dates together. They told stories of heroic rescues from mythical creatures and great journeys across fairy tale lands. Every story always ended in a heroic rescue by the prince and a happily ever after.
"Blaine, do you think a prince could really fall in love with a mermaid?" Kurt asked, taking his Ariel doll in one hand and gesturing to the Prince Eric doll in Blaine's. It did seem quite improbable that a prince could love a mermaid. Both boys were very well familiar with the story, and the story of each of the dolls they owned.
"Of course! Nothing can stop true love, not even being separated by the ocean." Blaine said proudly, bouncing the doll in his hand dramatically. He spoke with a bit of a lisp, his tongue poking out where his two front teeth should be. Blaine seemed to know the answer to everything.
Kurt considered what Blaine said for a moment, looking over to Blaine's doll before picking up his Prince Charming doll instead. He nibbled on his lower lip nervously and ran his thumb over the dolls face.
"Do you think... two prince's can fall in love?" He muttered shyly, not looking at Blaine's face. He felt heat in his face just from asking the question, but it was something he had been thinking about for awhile.
Blaine seemed to consider the idea for a long moment, remaining quiet but flicking his eyes between the two male dolls.
"I don't know, I've never heard of a prince rescuing a prince or having a happily ever after..." Blaine scrunched his face in thought, trailing his tongue along the front of his gums. "But... I think if they liked each other, maybe it's possible." Kurt met Blaine's face, a goofy grin on his face, and Kurt couldn't help but smile back.
"We like each other, right?" Kurt asked softly and Blaine nodded vigorously. Kurt was Blaine's best friend in the whole entire world, after all.
"Do you think-" Kurt cleared throat. "Would you be my prince? Would you play princes' with me?" Blaine grinned even wider.
"I would love to, Prince Kurt!" Blaine dropped the doll onto the grass and reached out for Kurt's hand. Kurt stared at their joined hands and felt something swoop in his stomach that he didn't quite understand. "Come along, Prince Blaine has heard of an evil dragon attacking the Hummel Castle and we must defend our kingdom from the fiery beast!" Kurt grasped tightly onto Blaine's small hand, dolls forgotten, and ran off with Blaine towards the 'castle'.
