Graduation time for Kurt Hummel. Principal Figgins has a talk with him, and Kurt has something up his sleeve for Blaine.
Author's Notes: PLEASE READ: okay, i haven't written anything in months, so i apologize if this isn't amazing or anything. I just got this idea, and really wanted to write it. I don't have a beta or anything. Please give me feedback. Good or bad. thanks :D
With only a couple weeks left of the school year, everyone was sitting in the choir room. Rachel and Finn were in front of the piano talking amongst themselves.
Mr. Shuester was talking to Brittany, Santana, and Sam. Tina was at the piano with Quinn, and Mike was dancing around to the silly notes they were playing. Mercedes, Puck, and Rory were sitting in the chairs.
Rory was reading something, Puck was silently strumming on his guitar, and Mercedes was on her phone texting. Kurt and Blaine were sitting next to each other in the corner of the choir room away from everyone, and silently talking amongst themselves. Mostly about Kurt leaving Blaine behind for a year so he could go to NYADA. Yes, Kurt was accepted. He was actually with Blaine when he got the letter.
Kurt and Blaine were downstairs cuddling on Kurt's bed, watching a movie, when his father called him.
“Hey Kurt! You have a letter here.”
“Who's it from?” Kurt yelled back.
“Why don't you come up here and look?”
Kurt groaned, as did Blaine. They were both really comfortable. They both got up, Kurt grabbed Blaine's hand and they walked upstairs. The letter was sitting on the counter. Kurt picked it up, and his heart sunk. It was a letter from NYADA. Blaine saw it, and put his hand on the small of Kurt's back.
“Open it,” Blaine whispered.
Kurt looked at Blaine, and swallowed loudly.
“I'm afraid. What if I didn't get accepted? My dreams are going to be ruin-” Blaine placed a finger over Kurt's lips and kissed his forehead.
“There are more schools in New York besides NYADA, Kurt. Just open it.”
Kurt sighed, and tore open the envelope carefully. He didn't want to chance ripping the whole letter, but it was hard because his hands were shaking. The envelope was open, and Kurt just stared at the paper inside it.
It felt like he was holding a brick rather than a letter. He could feel his heartbeat in his ears as he brought out the paper. He closed his eyes, unfolded it and took a deep breath.
Blaine watched Kurt's face as he read the letter. Kurt's eyes filled with tears, and Blaine felt his heart break.
“I'm so sorry, Kurt,” Blaine whispered.
Kurt looked up at him, and beamed.
“They accepted me.”
Kurt's eyes lit up at the mention of New York, and NYADA. Blaine found it adorable. His boyfriend was going to be able to fulfill his dreams. Deep down however, it terrified Blaine. Any man could just sweep Kurt off his feet, and take him away from Blaine in a second. Blaine was so in love with Kurt that it hurt.
They gave everything to each other. They shared all their firsts with each other. First love, first kiss, and even their first time was with each other. Kurt was the only boy Blaine had ever truly been in love with. He thought he's been in love before, but when Kurt came into his life, it all changed.
Blaine just watched Kurt ramble on and on about how he couldn't wait to leave Lima, OH. Kurt grabbed Blaine's hand, and Blaine snapped out of whatever thought he was in.
“Are you okay?” Kurt asked, “You're really quiet.”
Blaine simply smiled, “I'm fine.”
Kurt was about to say something when Principal Figgins walked through the door.
“Excuse me, Mr. Shuester, I would like to see Kurt Hummel in my office immediately.”
Everyone, including Blaine, looked at Kurt. Kurt's ocean blue eyes were wide, and sparkling with confusion. Kurt looked at Blaine, and grabbed his things. Everyone's eyes followed Kurt as he walked out of the classroom. Kurt followed Principal Figgins to his office. Neither of them saying a word. Kurt didn't realize they had reach the office until Figgins motioned for Kurt to sit down. He did so, and just stared at the principal.
“Mr. Hummel, I have some good news for you,” Figgins started.
Kurt stared at him, eyes wide, and the feeling of excitement in his stomach.
“You are the valedictorian of your class,” Figgins started. “We were hoping that you could give a speech at the graduation ceremony.”
Kurt looked at the principal. His mouth gaping, and his eyes wide? He was valedictorian? He knew his grades were good, but he didn't think they were that good. Kurt merely nodded, unknowing of what to say. Figgins beamed and Kurt, and held out his hand. Kurt snapped out of it, stood up and shook his principals hand.
“Congratulations, Kurt! I can't wait to hear your speech.”
“Thank you,” Kurt finally said.
Kurt walked out of the principals office with a huge smile on his face. This was perfect that this happened because of a couple reason. He had to find Blaine and tell him what happened. He pulled out his phone and sent a text to Blaine.
-Babe, where are you??
He waited a few seconds, and his phone vibrated in his hand.
-My locker
Kurt smiled, and walked as fast as he could. He found Blaine and wrapped his arms around him from behind. He felt Blaine silently laugh, and Blaine turned around in his arms.
“What did Figgins want?” Blaine asked.
Kurt beamed, and grabbed Blaine's hand.
“He said that I was valedictorian of my class! He wants me to give a speech at graduation,” Kurt practically squealed.
Blaine's face lit up, and he brought Kurt in for a hug.
“Oh, baby! I'm so proud of you!”
Blaine would have kissed Kurt right there if it weren't for the kids in the hallway. Blaine was going to Kurt's after school, so they would probably celebrate then. Kurt pulled away, a huge smile on his face.
“I have to start working on my speech, oh my god. What if I mess it up and make a full out of myself? What if one of the bullies calls me a name and I forget where I am? Wha-”
Blaine silenced Kurt with his finger.
“You need to stop worrying so much, babe. You and I can go over your speech together and practice it until you get it right, okay? You are going to do amazing, and I am so proud of you right now.”
Kurt smiled at his boyfriend, and sighed. “I...I kind of want the speech to be a surprise to everyone.”
Blaine slowly nodded, “Okay, but practicing won't make you as nervous.”
“Courage,” was all that Kurt said.
Blaine looked down at the floor, and smiled. Kurt walked away when the bell rang, and Blaine watched him. He walked in the opposite direction with a smile on his face.
------------
It was graduation night, and Kurt was so nervous. Blaine, Carol, and Burt were standing in front of Kurt. Everyone had tears in their eyes. Carol fixed Kurt's graduation cap, and sniffled. Kurt looked over to Blaine, and held out his hand. Blaine was dressed in a nice pair of black jeans, and a clean white shirt with a bow-tie. Blaine took Kurt's hand, and Kurt pulled Blaine into him. They stood there and hugged each other.
“I love you, Blaine. I love you so much,” Kurt whispered.
“I love you, too, Kurt,” Blaine said, his voice breaking.
Kurt looked at Blaine, and a tear slid down Blaine's cheek. Kurt smiled, and wiped away the tear.
“Please don't cry,” Kurt said.
“I'm sorry. I'm just so proud of you,” Blaine told him.
Kurt slowly looked around, and when he was sure no one was watching, he placed a small kiss on Blaine's lips. It's the first time they ever kissed in a public place. Blaine was about to say something, when a teacher asked for all friends and family to leave. Kurt hugged Carol, Burt and Blaine. Both Carol and Burt whispering words of encouragement in his ear, and they walked away.
Kurt could feel the box in his pocket become ten times heavier, as well as the paper his speech was written on. He took a deep breath, and stood in line with all his classmates. He couldn't believe he was going to do this.
--------------
Before Kurt knew it, his name was announced, and it was time for him to give his speech. Kurt took out the paper, and the small box. He hid the box as well as he could. Kurt took a deep breath, and walked up to the podium.
He placed down the paper, and the box right in the top corner. He looked across the crowd, and his eyes focused on Blaine. He was right up front, sitting next to Burt and Carol. Kurt looked down at his paper, and cleared his throat.
“Hello, I am Kurt Hummel. It's kind of amazing that I'm valedictorian of my class considering what I've been through. Four years ago, I was this closeted gay kid who was being thrown into dumpsters-” he heard the crowd chuckle. “-last year I had to be transferred to another school because I was being bullied so badly. I was also voted prom queen-” he heard the crowd chuckle at that.
“-but here I am before you today. Among all the bullying, I am able to stand here and be proud of who I am. Early last year, my father and I had a long talk. I was upset that I couldn't walk down the halls holding hands with the person I liked, or slow dance at my prom because I'm gay. He told me that I would have to go through things alone until I found someone. Middle of last year, I found that someone.”
Kurt looked at Blaine. His eyes were wide, and Kurt simply smiled. “I met Blaine Anderson a year and a half ago, and immediately fell in love with him. He taught me to be courageous, and to never let bullies get me down. He made me go for my dreams instead of just leaving them behind. He was always there cheering me on. I got into NYADA, and I have him to thank for that. He is my rock; without him, I probably wouldn't be standing in front of you. He saved me in every way possible.”
Kurt looked over the face of the crowd, half of them had tears in their eyes. Kurt smiled, and looked at Blaine. “Blaine, would you come up here please?” He saw Blaine's teary eyes go wide, and Burt nudged him. Kurt grabbed the box, and smiled at his father. Blaine stood up, and walked up on stage. Kurt grabbed the microphone, and moved away from the podium. Kurt looked at Blaine, and grabbed his hand and looked straight into his eyes.
“Blaine Anderson, I love you more than I have ever loved anything or anyone. I know that you're afraid of me going away to New York at the end of the summer. A state between us isn't going to change how I feel about you. You are the only man I am ever going to want, I can promise you that. As to prove that to you, I have something I want to ask you.”
Kurt got down on one knee, and opened up the box. He heard everyone gasp, and Blaine started crying.
“Blaine Anderson, will you marry me?”
Blaine's hands covered his mouth as he shook his head 'yes' a bunch of times. Kurt slid the ring onto Blaine's finger, and stood up. Blaine threw his arms around Kurt, and kissed him.
He heard everyone— the people in the audience, and even his classmates start to applaud. Kurt didn't realize he was crying until they pulled away, and Blaine wiped away his tears.
“I am so in love with you, Kurt.”
End Notes: i'm not sure how being valedictorian goes because i was never it, and i didn't pay attention when the valedictorian at my high school gave her speech, so i made it my way seeing as it's fanfiction ;D reviews would be lovely.
