The first time they entered, it was just before Christmas. They were standing a comfortable two feet apart, but there was just something about them. Maybe it was the stolen glances by the one with the eyes the color of the ocean. Or how the curly haired one would wave the other forward, always taking second. Regardless, Kim had a feeling there was something special about them.

"Hi, welcome to The Lima Bean, what can I get started for you today?" she asked politely.

The shorter one waved the other boy forward. "After you," he said.

"Hi, can I get a Grande Non-Fat Mocha Latte, please?" the boy asked breathlessly.

She wondered if he was used to chivalry. "Sure! And your name?" She asked out of obligation, but she secretly just wanted to know.

"Kurt."

She watched as he reached into his pocket to pull out his wallet, but the other boy stopped him. "It's okay, Kurt. I've got this. Merry Christmas," he said. She noticed Kurt's blush and tried not to grin knowingly.

"And for you, sir?"

"A medium drip, please. And toss in one of those elf cookies, would you?"

"Sure thing. Your name?"

"Blaine."

"All right, your total is $8.23. I'll toss the cookie in for free. Merry Christmas," she said cheerily.

As she made the drinks, Kurt and Blaine picked up a conversation, chatting amiably about what they were planning for the holidays. Kurt berated Blaine for getting a cookie with so many calories, and Blaine told Kurt to live a little. Chuckling as they grabbed their drinks, they headed toward a table where Blaine paused and pulled the chair out for Kurt before seating himself.

Kim smiled before helping the next customer. "Kurt and Blaine," she thought.

The next time she saw them was just after the new year. School had resumed she assumed, because the boys were wearing the same stuffy looking uniforms as before. This time, something was different. Kurt was a little more obvious toward Blaine. But Blaine was…oblivious? That's the best way she could describe it.

Blaine was just as chivalrous as before, paying for the order, trying to tease Kurt into indulging, pulling out Kurt's chair. Watching as the boys sat and talked over coffee, she noticed how Blaine would laugh whole-heartedly at all of Kurt's jokes, causing Kurt's eyes to light up in a way you wouldn't think possible.

She'd always heard that laughter was true music to a person's ears, but never had she seen it represented so much as in Kurt's eyes as Blaine laughed. "Kurt and Blaine," she thought.

Soon enough she was charged with decorating for Valentines Day. As she started in on it early one morning, she wondered if she'd see Kurt and Blaine come in. Later that same day, she glanced up at the queue in front of her and saw the familiar faces. As the line slowly moved, their voices reaching her in broken, incomplete phrases.

"…in love with you…" she heard Blaine say. She wondered if the context was correct or not. She hoped it was. As they reached her, she waited, carefully watching their facial expressions. "What can I get you?" she asked.

"A medium drip for me and a nonfat grande mocha latte for this guy and maybe I can get him to split one of those cupid cookies," Blaine said, pulling out his wallet.

"You know my coffee order?" Kurt asked, the look on his face practically screaming he was enamored.

"Of course I do," Blaine said, nearly offended.

"That'll be $8.40," Kim interjected, though she was loathe to interrupt them.

Blaine noticed Kurt reaching into his pocket as per usual. "Don't even bother dummy, it's on me." He extended a $10 bill to Kim and said with a smile, "Keep the change."

As Blaine headed to the sugars and cremes, Kurt leaned forward to Kim as if to tell a secret. "I do believe I have a new favorite holiday," he said excitedly before joining Blaine.

"Kurt and Blaine," she thought.

They would come in several times over the next month, but things seemed different. They were more distant. Blaine still paid and Kurt still looked lovelorn. He also looked closed off. Blaine laughed less and observed more. Kurt talked more, but focused on watching his drink rather than Blaine.

Then one day, they fought. Blaine had his phone out and was smiling. Kurt looked offended. Under the guise of cleaning up a table near by, Kim eavesdropped.

"I would say 'bye' but I don't want to offend you," Blaine said angrily before storming out.

Kurt sat in shock, alone at the table. Not wanting to cause a fuss, Kim headed back behind the counter. Noticing how low Kurt looked, she grabbed a cookie in the shape of a four-leaf clover.

"Thought maybe you could use a little luck," she said, setting it down and walking away.

Kurt stared at the cookie for a good five minutes before reaching out and taking a bite of it. As he left, he looked slightly cheered, and smiled at Kim before exiting.

"Kurt and Blaine," she thought, sighing heavily.

The next time she saw them on one of her shifts, things were finally what she'd always expected. They entered hand in hand. They whispered in each other's ears as they stood in line. They ordered each other's drinks. Kurt paid, and Blaine laughed. Kim threw in a free cookie.

She watched, a smile on her face, as the boys sat next to each other rather than across from. Kurt leaned into Blaine, who was sitting against the window. They were talking softly, laughing, smiling, holding hands. Blaine's free hand was gently caressing Kurt's arm.

After a few minutes of shamelessly watching them, Kim set back to work. Working in a coffee shop, you see a lot of things. Couples who've made it through the years. Couples breaking up in front of you. First dates. Study dates. Families bonding. But sometimes, if you're lucky, you see a couple fall in love.
