Kurt woke up. He glanced at his alarm clock – it was 4 a.m. At first he wondered what would wake him at this time until he noticed someone saying his name.
‘Kurt!’ He turned around. Blaine lay next to him moving anxiously and mumbling in his sleep.
‘No! Please’ His voice went louder. Kurt was concerned and tried to wake him.
‘Blaine?’
‘Kurt, Kurt’
‘Blaine!’ Kurt grabbed his boyfriends arms.
‘Kurt!’ Suddenly Blaine opened his eyes and stared at him fearfully.
‘Kurt!’ he blurted out again and hugged him tight.
‘Shhhhh it’s alright! You only had a bad dream!’ Kurt tried to comfort him but instead of calming down the black haired boy just started sobbing heavily.
‘Oh honey’ Blaine pressed his face against Kurts chest and let out all of his tears.
Kurt helplessly patted his back and stroked his hair while whispering ‘It’s all good’
After a few minutes Blaine started to calm down.
‘I- I’m s-sorry’ he hiccupped. ‘I just h-had a bad dream’
‘I know honey’ Kurt replied softly. ‘Tell me about it. It gets better, I swear!’
‘It h-had no real plot’ Blaine admitted gulping. ‘It was just you leaving and I was alone at McKinley and everybody started picking on me and I felt so lonely and … ‘
He sobbed again. Kurt took his face between his hands and looked at him earnestly.
‘Stop it!’
‘I’m sorry!’ Blaine apologized with tears still streaming down his face. His sad puppy eyes caused a pain in Kurt’s chest that made him tear up too.
He didn’t want to be the reason for Blaine crying.
‘I have those dreams too, but you always have to tell yourself that they are nothing but dreams!’
Blaine looked up. ‘R-really? What do you dream about?’
‘That doesn’t matter.’
‘It does! If you don’t tell me I can’t tell you that those are silly thoughts and… and’ He sniffed. ‘You know’
‘Okay well…. It’s always. You transfer back to Dalton and rejoin the Warblers and.. you’re so happy… and stuff and you board.. and… and you share a room with Sebastian…’
Immediately after Kurt hat said that name Blaine silenced him.
‘Stop right there’ The tears were there again. He wasn’t hurt that Kurt thought he would ever leave him for Sebastian. It just made him sad.
‘If I go back to Dalton and that guy is still there I’ll tell him to not come any nearer to me than 5 meters.’
Kurt smiled weakly. ‘It’s just gonna be so hard without you’ he sighed.
‘I know. But you have Rachel with you’
‘But Rachel’s not my boyfriend’
‘She’s definitely not’
Blaine thought of Kurt leaving and wanted to start crying again but stopped himself – he didn’t want to make it any harder than it already was.
‘I’m sorry’ he apologized again. ‘We – you should sleep. You need to pack up your stuff tomorrow’
‘Yeah, you’re right. You’re helping me, aren’t you?’
‘Of course honey. Now let’s get some sleep’
They both lay in silence for a few moments until they sniffed simultaneously. They giggled.
‘You want to cuddle?’ Kurt asked silently.
‘Yes please, I would love to’ Blaine confessed.
‘Come here’ Kurt offered. ‘Can I be the little spoon?’ Blaine wanted to know with a small voice.
‘Sure you can’ laughed Kurt. Blaine turned around and nuzzled happily into the sheets while Kurt snuggled up to him. He put his hand on his heart and stroked his chest lightly.
It was the most comforting thing Blaine had ever felt. On his neck he felt Kurt’s slight breathing, which made him feel completely calm and fall asleep soon.

‘Blaine!’ Rachel said with a sad face.
‘Oh come on!’ He hugged her tightly and pressed a kiss on both of her cheeks. ‘Take care of him, will you? Make sure he eats regularly, he tends to skip meals when he’s stressed out!’
‘I will’ she giggled while embracing Blaine. ‘And take care of yourself, too please!’
‘Alright Blaine!’ she turned to say goodbye to Finn and her dads.
Blaine stepped in front of Kurt. They looked at each other without saying anything.
Suddenly they were in each other’s arms, blinding out their environment.
‘I promised never to say goodbye to you’ Kurt whispered. ‘And I won’t do it now. This is not a goodbye’
Blaine fought back his tears. There was a lump in his throat and swallowing hurt.
‘I will call you every day. We’ll skype as often as we can. And I come back a soon as it’s possible! I – I just…’ he faded out, looking for words.
‘I will miss you so bad!’ Blaine replied. He breathed his boyfriend’s odour. Finally he let go of him. ‘I have something for you’ he remembered and pulled out a small case.
Kurt opened it. In there wrapped in satin lay a heart-shaped medallion. He opened it with shaky hands. The one side held a photo of them, they took it on Valentine’s day earlier this year. They both smiled happily at the camera. On the left side there were words engraved. The writing was baroque and after Kurt had read it he felt tears stinging in his eyes: ‘No regrets – just love Blaineb29;Kurt’
‘Thank you darling, that’s so sweet of you!’
‘I have one too’ Blaine said, pulling out the other one.
‘I’ll take it with me every day’ Kurt promised. ‘I love you Blaine!’
‘I love you too, Kurt. More than anything!’ They held each other’s hands and stood there in silence. Eventually they let go and Kurt said his goodbyes to his dad, Finn and Carole. Carole was crying too and Burt had to fight back his tears too. Even Finn looked uncomfortable.
Blaine avoided looking into Kurt’s eyes or at Kurt in general. He watched silently as he and Rachel boarded and waved them until they were out of sight. The Hummels, the Berrys and Blaine waited until the plane took off, neither of them saying a word. Blaine already started missing his boyfriend. He felt miserable. They slowly left the airport.
Burt took him home and even during the drive they barely talked. In Westerville Blaine thanked Burt for giving him a lift and got out of the car.
With his head down he walked into the house. He was surprised as he saw that the Hall was enlightened. His parents weren’t supposed to be home.
When he entered the living room he found his mum sitting there, waiting with two cups of hot tea. She saw Blaine’s sad face and held up one of the cups. I thought you need this she said, patting onto the sofa next to her. Slowly Blaine sat down.
‘Oh come on, honey!’ his mum said opening her arms for a hug. Blaine let himself fall into the embrace and started sobbing desperately again. She just sat there silently comforting her son with stroking his back.
‘It’s alright. I know it’s hard at first, but you’ll see time will pass so fast that you can’t believe it. You’ll be with him again in no time.’
‘Thank you mum’, was the only thing Blaine responded. ‘Thank you so much. I love you’
