Author's Notes: I've had this posted on my livejournal account for ages but nobody read it so I was like 'hey why not try it out on here!' :') it was my first Klaine fic so go easy on me please! I obviously do not own these characters and I do not own this title either! It is just my favourite lyrics from All Time Low's; Daydream Away!
It was an ordinary night for Blaine. There he was, lying on Kurt’s couch, wrapped around his boyfriend who was fast asleep in his arms. His head rested upon Blaine’s bicep, facing the TV which casted bright colours on his flawless complexion. It was as if somebody was splashing paint on a plain white paper. Although Kurt was asleep, Blaine’s other hand was still clamped around his bare hip, his long fingers softly stroking the visible strip of skin between his deep cut, red t-shirt and his tight, dusty black jeans that he wore out to dinner that night.

It was a strange night to say the least and it all started off with Blaine getting a bonus at work for staying after school hours to help that week with marking exams of any subject. Since his music classes were small, he barely had any exams to mark unlike the rest of the teachers who were slaving the day away behind piles of exams. He simply asked for an answer sheet to an exam one day and offered to mark the exams too because he wasn’t really doing anything. Only he didn’t realize that marking those exams would end up making him stay after school hours. Sure he could have marked them at home but Kurt was almost always at his and he knew with him around, he’d get nothing done. The one time he tried, it ended up with Blaine getting incredibly frustrated and pushing Kurt down on the desk he was sitting at so they could have sex.

But after all of his work, the principal came to him as he was about to leave and slipped him an extra 100 dollars.

They went to a fairly expensive restaurant round the corner from Kurt’s work office. Kurt was pretty excited as he said he had always passed the place but never even gone in for a drink because he was scared his clumsy self would bump into one of the precious vases on the way in. So when Blaine invited him there, he squealed and threw his arms around his neck, lifting his feet off the floor and kissing into Blaine’s neck in the middle of his office. Kurt’s colleague Sandra made the unoriginal remark ‘get a room’ as Kurt pressed his smiling lips to Blaine’s. Kurt laughed and simply flipped her off then roaming his hands all over Blaine’s broad shoulders, feeling every texture of Blaine’s body, to simply piss her off even more. She laughed it off and then assured Kurt she’d cover his work which made Blaine just as happy as Kurt. Kurt didn’t waste any time in grabbing Blaine’s hand after grabbing his bag and dragging him out of his office.

Dinner was almost like any other dinner they’ve had before. Kurt talking about work, his newest designs and all the hype in the office as Fashion Week dawned closer. Blaine told Kurt about his bonus and all the crazy answers he’d seen in some of the exams he marked, it definitely got them both laughing like crazy in the middle of this incredibly high-class restaurant. He loved how Kurt burst out into hysterics in such a place because he honestly didn’t care, Kurt had learnt to become so care-free over the years because he knew he couldn’t continue his life being so restricted as he was in High School, he would never have any fun he believed if he didn’t let go. His spontaneous and carefree ways is what made Blaine fall in love with him all over again each day but it’s also what stopped Blaine from doing what he’s been wanting to do since they left High school.

Ever since Kurt and Blaine left High School, they had been a closer couple than ever. Kurt barely lived at his own apartment because he much preferred the comfortableness of Blaine’s. He preferred the sketchy rugs thrown over the coffee stained, patchy couches. He preferred the fake marble tops of Blaine’s kitchen in which Kurt could sit upon and have his coffee whilst looking over the city through the yellowing glass of the tiny window above the sink, if he wished because there was enough scratches and cracks on it already that it didn’t matter. He loved that smell of home and cooking as he walked through the door and down the narrow hall which had a bunch of funny pictures hanging in faded photo frames. But most of all, he loved Blaine’s bed. He loved that it was the place they mostly made love in. He loved that the sheets were rugged and loose so they easily snuggled around him and Blaine as they slept close together. He loved that when he got up, his head left a dip in the pillow because it simply was so old that it couldn’t spring back up into shape. But the best thing was that it smelled of Blaine, it didn’t smell new, straight out of Ikea like his sheets did, his couch, his kitchen. Everything in his house smelt new and industrial and he hated it. As much as he tried to make it his home but making it looked as modern and chic as it did, it just wasn’t home, it was more of a showroom. He had to be so damn careful and with the way he was now, he didn’t like having to tip-toe round it one bit, so instead he stayed at Blaine’s, where when his head hit the pillow, he could inhale the smell of Blaine all around him, a smell he knew so well and craved so much. So when Blaine slipped into bed after him, he would always cuddle right up to him and just breathe.

With all that said, Kurt still kept his house because well, they weren’t married. He knew him and Blaine were set in stone, married or not but he listened to his father even if he is now 21 and can make his own decisions because he knew his dad was right. He knew that if for any reason they had a huge argument which left them not talking for days or even worse, he’d have to settle somewhere which wasn’t his parents house, a plane flight away. Blaine never questioned it and Kurt assumed it’s because he felt the same way but boy, was he wrong.
Blaine believed Kurt kept his apartment because he wanted that freedom. He wanted to be able to runaway to his apartment when he wished to and that also he wasn’t ready to move in and settle down with another.

Even though it was a ridiculous concept seeing as Kurt practically lived there anyways (he did the laundry, wash the dishes after dinner occasionally, cleaned up after himself, had a hell lot of his wardrobe here (leaving a couple of draws for Blaine) and even had his own key) There really wasn’t any logic behind having his own other apartment but Blaine thought he knew it was because Kurt wasn’t ready to settle down, he still wanted that sense of freedom and Blaine was too damn insecure to take it away from him from once second because he knew presenting that silver band with the proposition of a proposal would throw them off completely and he couldn’t be rejected, not by the man he loved more than anything in this whole damn world.

Blaine avidly thought about proposing almost every day though and has done so for the past three years even since Kurt started practically acting like his husband. But every time he planned to do so he couldn’t, he was too insecure for his own good. He knew Kurt loved him though, he knew that surely because he wouldn’t stay round as often as he did, make love to Blaine or give him the best back massages in the world after work if he didn’t love him. Blaine loved their relationship as it was and didn’t want to risk disturbing the pure bliss with his traditional ways.

Although he just wanted that final gate to be closed. That feeling of officially being able to be Kurt’s and for Kurt’s to be his. He wanted to see that silver band around Kurt’s long, gentle ring finger. He wanted to hear the rings clash together and they linked hands. So Blaine carried around that dark blue velvet box everywhere he went, waiting for the perfect moment and when moments as perfect as this evening, when they were in such a lovely restaurant, where Blaine could have simply got down on his knee on that red carpet beneath them and do what he’s being wanting to do every single day for the past three years, he just couldn’t risk it. So he guesses that was the only ordinary thing about this day. The fact that he yet again, failed to propose to the man he loved. The one he once told to have courage when he barely had any himself.

So as he lay there, allowing these daily thoughts to run through his head, he didn’t even realize Kurt stir in his sleep and turn towards him until he felt a slight prod at his chest. He looked down to see Kurt smiling sleepily as his face nuzzled into the fresh stubble on Blaine’s neck. A smile now stretched broadly across Blaine’s face.

‘Hey sleepyhead, you fell asleep through the movie’ Blaine said in almost a whisper. Kurt made a weird high pitched moan which sounded more like a puppy than anything, it caused Blaine to chuckle lightly.

‘Too much food, made m’tired’

‘Aha, I see. Kurt Hummel’s non-existent stomach can’t take half a steak’ He teased, gently slapping Kurt’s now bare stomach as his shirt had rode up his perfectly slim torso as he turned. Kurt batted his hands away and made a disapproving grunt low in his throat.

‘Shu’up and carry me to the bedroom’ He murmured into Blaine’s neck, the vibration sending chills down Blaine’s spine.

‘No you get up you lazy shit’ Blaine said with a laugh.

‘Pleeeeeease’

‘Nuh uh’

‘Please, the bestest boyfriend in the whole world’ Kurt whined, throwing in that little ridiculous compliment, knowing it would probably get his way.

‘Not gonna happen unless...’ Blaine dragged out, reaching for the remote to switch off the TV.

‘Unless?’ Kurt pressed. Blaine now turned back to him and smiled.

‘Unless you plant one right here because once you hit the bed, you won’t and I want a goodnight kiss’ Blaine now pressed a finger to his bottom lip teasingly.

Kurt rolled his eyes vividly, suddenly a little more awake than earlier. He grabbed Blaine’s wrist, the one in which he held up by his chin and used that to drag Blaine down a little closer so their lips could brush. Blaine then took it to press himself down a little lower and really feel the pressure of Kurt’s lips against his. He opened his mouth slowly, waiting for Kurt’s slow, recently awoken brain to catch up and tell his lips to open to. Kurt’s slightly open lips now brush over Blaine’s in a soft couple of lazy kisses. As Blaine pulled away he smiled gingerly, then pressing the lightest kiss to the tip of Kurt’s nose before securing his arms around the back of Kurt’s torso and waiting for Kurt to lock his arms around his neck. Once they were set, Blaine heaved himself over the low, worn out couch and walked them to his room.

He settled Kurt gently on the bed and then looked at his boyfriend simply sit there, slouching and staring idly at the corner of the room. His hair was sticking out in all different directions and his eyes looked like they were about to slide shut for good.

‘You gonna go to sleep then?’ Blaine questioned teasingly.

‘M’hm’

‘...and when will that be exactly?’

Kurt let out a sigh and pushed himself off the bed, now wavering on the spot ‘I need to get changed into my shorts’

So Kurt walked over to the chair by the door and began looking through the pile of scattered clothes, dirty or clean. He threw them all over his shoulder, not really caring as to where they landed. He now got to Blaine’s clothes and decided to throw them over to his side. The last item of clothing before getting to his shorts were the pants Blaine wore earlier and he threw them over and then heard a scoff.

He turned around to see them draped over Blaine’s head. Blaine was sporting a large grin and shaking with laughter. Kurt now began to laugh lightly which suddenly stopped when he saw Blaine quickly remove the pants from his head and aim them towards Kurt. Kurt yelped and run across the room, hoping that he would throw them to where he was earlier but Blaine was too quick for that and threw them to Kurt’s current place before he could even acknowledge it and was hit on the head with a particularly hard object in the pocket of the pants. He yelped and then began to laugh. Blaine had obviously heard the knock against his head as his eyebrows knit together.

‘What was that?’ He questioned, going through what he had put in his pocket earlier.

‘I don’t know, let me see’ Kurt now lifted the pants off the ground and flipped them round to get to the pocket.

And suddenly it hit Blaine, the ring was in his pocket. He hadn’t had time or even stopped to think to slip it back in the draw of his bedside table when they arrived back at his house because he was in such a rush to get back to Kurt.

Kurt had flung himself on the couch as soon as they arrived, completely exhausted and full of rich fod. He patted the empty space behind him. His tired eyes were inviting for a good cuddle session and a movie before they went to bed. He didn’t even need to say anything because Blaine understood him that well.

So Blaine held up a finger and murmured ‘One sec’ before dashing off into his room and changing his slightly tight jeans for some baggy sweatpants . He never understood how Kurt could stay comfortable in his outwear. He never questioned him personally though.
So eager was Blaine to get back to Kurt on the couch and pull him into his embrace, feeling every curve, dip and dent of Kurt’s magnificent body. He quickly disposed of his jeans on the chair and for once completely forgetting about the ring.

So there was Kurt now digging his hand deep into the into the pocket when Blaine leaped across the large bed in between them, tackling Kurt’s torso and sending them both to the carpeted ground with a thump.

Kurt’s eyes were now wide and still from the shock of the sudden crash. His plump lips were slightly parted, letting the quick, heavy breaths escape from his heaving chest. Blaine stared at him. His honey and green eyes were careful and slightly squinting at the sides as he tried to search from some emotion in Kurt’s eyes other than pure shock. He licked his lips before opening his mouth to begin to explain but his words escaped him. He now realized he was straddling Kurt’s bare waist and not giving him space to sit up. He scrambled back to give Kurt space and settled to straddle his thighs instead.

After a good 10 minutes, Kurt decided to stop staring at the ceiling whilst running his free hand through his tousled nap-hair. He tossed the box around in his hand, looking at it turn and fall through his delicate fingers. Blaine too observed mindlessly for a good 5 minutes. He knew that Kurt knew it was a ring because the box had the shop’s name printed in gold and everybody knew that it was a ring shop which specialized in engagement and wedding rings.

Finally Kurt looked up, his light blue eyes were almost sparkling which kind of comforted Blaine a little.

‘This is a ring...’ Kurt began quietly, his voice sounding questioning. His raised his eyebrow and Blaine nodded slowly, his lips in a firm line.

‘Yes’

‘An engage-‘ Kurt started before Blaine could interrupt him ‘An engagement ring, yes’ Blaine confirmed. The corner of Kurt’s mouth twitched into a small smile, his eyes focused on his lap.

‘So are you going to get on with it?’ Kurt pressed like his usual self would.

Blaine’s mouth now gaped open and closed a couple of times because honestly he was lost for words but in a good way. Was Kurt encouraging for him to propose?

‘Wait are you saying you want me to propose?’ Blaine questioned incredulously. Kurt chuckled loudly.

‘Only ever since you first told me you loved me...and I’d be lying if I hadn’t dreamed of it before and after we kissed when I was still swooning over what wasn’t even mine’ Kurt admitted, his tone making it sound like it was obvious.

Blaine smiled and scoffed, looking down at his hands and watching one of them now travel towards Kurt’s, the one with the box. He slipped it out of Kurt’s delicate hold and decided to also hold Kurt’s hand whilst he was at because that’s the kind of thing you do when you’re about to ask for someone’s hand in marriage right? Blaine began to question his every action now. He cursed himself for not ever actually preparing for this day in the last 3 years. To be fair though, he never thought this day would come, the day Kurt Hummel would be encouraging him to propose to him.

‘Hey’ Kurt whispered, making Blaine look up at him with caring eyes ‘I’ve been wanting and waiting for this just as much as you have’

Blaine couldn’t help but blush a little at the words ‘Oh trust me, you haven’t, I’ve been preparing to do this for too long’ His eyes now met Kurt’s, they looked admiring but a little confused

‘How long then? Like preparing?’

‘3 years’ The room was now dead silent again. Kurt smiled.

‘So why did you never actually do it then?’ He asked carefully. Blaine sighed and ran his hands through his mess of curls.

‘Because I was afraid you wouldn’t want to be tied down...tied down with me. You’ve just seem so carefree and enjoying your freedom since we left high school that...’ He couldn’t even finish his sentence as his voice almost became a whisper.

Kurt shook his head at the insanity he was hearing. He now brought up his hands to either sides of Blaine’s slightly frowning face ‘When you will understand that I love you Blaine? That there is nothing I want to do more than spend the rest of my life by your side?’

‘I am so happy with you Blaine’ Kurt stressed ‘Always have been, always will be’ He added with a gentle smile.

Blaine nodded before speaking and chuckled lightly but not out of humour ‘You see, that’s another reason why I’ve been scared...you always tell me how happy you are with how we are right now, how you wouldn’t change a thing. I feel like I’m ruining something...like I’m stealing your freedom’ The words rushed out of his mouth as he could barely hold it all in anymore. He immediately looked back at Kurt after, to find him grinning, he tightened his hold on Blaine before speaking.

‘Blaine, look at us, we’re practically a married couple’ He scoffed before continuing ‘I understand the irrational fears you’ve had the past 3 years but this is now; you’re holding a box with an engagement ring and you now know I too want to get married so..’ Kurt now gave him a reassuring smile, his eyes warm and sparkling.

Blaine laughed before straightening up and wrapping his hand securely around Kurt’s, his fingers wriggling and squeezing. Kurt’s eyes were glistening, making them seem even more blue and an eager smile was painted on his flawless cheeks.

‘You see, this is what I need, your movement Kurt. A couple of years ago whilst I was stalling for our first kiss ‘cause I was nervous as fuck’ Kurt now tipped his head back, laughing loudly ‘...I told you that you moved me...you still do move me every day. You’re my motivation behind everything, getting up at 5am to get ready to go to work because I know I need to bring in money until you get your big break as a designer’ Kurt chuckled and blushed lightly

‘And now you’re the motivation behind this proposal because I couldn’t do it myself in the first place. I need you Kurt, forever because I don’t know what I’d do if I didn’t wake up to your face almost every morning, so what I’m trying to ask here through all this stalling’ Kurt laughed again, his eyes shining from the moisture building up

‘Will you marry me?’ Blaine finally announced, opening the little velvet box to present a simple silver band.

Kurt let go of that breath he had been holding for so long and broke out into an open-mouthed grin, his eyes scrunching up at the corners ‘Yes, a million times yes’ He almost whispered.

Blaine was wearing a grin to match his as he delicately picked out the ring from the slit in the white cushion. He lifted Kurt’s hand and went to slide the ring around his finger until Kurt stopped him. He turned the ring upside down between Blaine’s fingers, also tilting his head in confusion.

‘What’s engraved on it?’ He asked quietly, brushing his finger tip over the ‘III/XV’

‘It marks the date we first kissed’ March 15th’ Blaine informed him, then scoffing and turning it back over ‘Guess I’ve had it for so long I kinda forgot that I had got it engraved’ He continued to just admire the ring.

‘Well put it on my damn finger then!’ Kurt ordered excitedly. Blaine laughed and finally slipped that almost 3 year old ring on his boyfriend’s (now fianc’s) ring finger. He saw how it fit perfectly and shone in the dim room light.

Suddenly Kurt’s hand moved out of his view and he then felt a strong hand clamp around his neck. He looked up to see Kurt’s face eager and quickly edging forward, closer to Blaine’s and then finally their lips crashed against each other’s in a very much needed kiss. Kurt bit down on Blaine’s lip half way through the mess of teeth and tongue. As he grazed his teeth over his lip, Kurt whispered a million ‘I love you’s’ Blaine smiled in the kiss, squeezing his hands tightly around Kurt’s bare hips in response. It made Kurt jump a little, pulling them apart. His pupils were full blown and searching.

‘Wait, do you not have a ring?’ He asked, seeming to be in a bit of a panic.

Blaine smiled and reached over for the box that lay abandoned by his side, keeping his eyes on Kurt. He tore them away to focus on the box he was opening. He then lifted the cushion from the box to reveal a ring identical to Kurt’s. Kurt let out a breath and smiled uncontrollably as Blaine handed it to him to slide onto Blaine’s thicker finger as he did earlier.

One that was done, they both fitted their fingers between each other’s, hearing the rings clash against each other. It made both their stomach’s flip in excitement and when they looked at each other, the bubbling got stronger.

Soon they’d be getting married. There was so many people to start calling, things to start discussing but that’s something future Kurt and Blaine could deal with. Right now, the present couple just wanted to show each other how much they love each other and with that Blaine urged forward to join their lips together again for a gentle yet passionate kiss. He could taste the salt from the tears that travelled down to Kurt’s lips earlier when Blaine handed him over the ring.

He slowly leaned on Kurt, pushing him closer to the ground until their bodies were flushed together and lips were sore from the heated kissing

‘This is so turning into floor sex, whether you like it or not’ Blaine murmured against Kurt’s lips, hoping that Kurt would forget about the precious, expensive carpet he bought for Blaine’s room a couple of months ago.

Although as he predicted, Kurt wouldn’t have it and pulled his lips away from Blaine’s. Blaine searched for an answer in his eyes but all he got was Kurt arching his back and reaching for something beneath him. He then lifted the lower part of his body and pulled out something from beneath there. Blaine then looked to the side to see the carpet thrown there. He looked back to Kurt to see him smiling deviously.

‘Just because you proposed to me doesn’t mean we can ruin that carpet but we can although continue what we we’re doing now since I’ve removed the carpet’ Kurt whispered.

Blaine smiled at how typical that was of Kurt and how even the little things that Kurt did that should have annoyed him, most of the time just made him love him more. And with that, his hand travelled down south the flat planes of Kurt’s torso to begin to rid the gorgeous man of his incredibly tight and teasing clothes for the first time as his fianc.
