Author's Notes: Basically just a random one-shot Drabble that I wrote because it snowed today and I was feeling in the mood :) what kurt does is exactly what I do everytime it snows here, which isn't very often xD
Snow was an odd thing. It caused so much joy but so much disruption. Kurt had always loved snow, just as all children did. The crunch under his feet, the cold bite in the air, the crystal white blanket over the world. It was like a fresh start and a new beginning. No footprints yet sunken in and then re-trodden until it was more ice than snow. There was something comforting about seeing a vast expanse of untouched snow stretch before him. It made everything else fade away and for just a while, the world didn't matter.

Kurt didn't spend snow-days like most kids did however. Most young (and some older) children would wake up to the sound of their parents announcing the snows arrival, the sound of the radio waiting to hear about school closures, and grumbles about the disruption. They would race down the stairs and speed through the breakfast they were made to eat before any fun could be had. After this when adorned with hats gloves and coats, some would find a hill and go sledging, others opting for snow men or snowball fights. They would return with their noses and fingers red, ready for a change of socks and a hot drink in front of the fire.

Kurt treated snow-days very differently. When the weather the day before had been promising a thick blanket the next day, he would wake before the sun and check his window. When he was treated with that sparkle of untouched snow all around his house, he would smile sadly and go to his wardrobe. After pulling on a hoodie and a pair of boots over his Pyjamas, he would tread carefully and quietly down the stairs and slip out of the house. The town was deserted at this time, the street lights stilling glowing, illuminating the untouched blanket before him.

The first step was always the best. Just enough weight sent his foot straight through the snow and let him judge it's depth. He would then start the familiar path across town. Being up this early, Kurt Hummel knew his footprints would be the first in the snow all day. He made the first imprint.
His feet carried him across the town until he reached the vast open expanse of field at its eastern most end. There he would wait. Anyone awake at this time may be shocked to see a teenage boy standing alone in the snow in his pyjamas before dawn. But no one ever saw him. No one was awake. There he would wait until the sun lazily crept over the horizon. It's glow was faded by the mist and it's warmth didn't quite have the same feel as usual. But kurt stood and watched as it slipped into the sky, turning the snow a dazzling white, sparkling like a thousand fireflys. Here Kurt could think and be free, alone in this perfect world where everything was fresh and new. The only imperfections were the path of footprints behind him. The only imperfection was him...
Here he was alone, and in a sad way he enjoyed it. Every year without fail. This was his moment to dwell and think, and often cry, for everything wrong in his life. He let the walls breakdown until there was nothing left to give.

The snow fell thick that year. Thicker than it had for a long while. Blaine had been visiting kurt for the evening when the first flakes started to fall. First lightly, and then finally growing into a full blown blizzard. Burt refused to let Blaine drive in this weather, so he stayed the night at the Hudson-Hummel house. Of course, during that night he crept slowly down the hallway to his boyfriends room and slipped inside. He lay down beside kurt before fall asleep wrapped around the boy he loved.

When we woke up the next day, it was still dark outside. He didn't know the reason he had awoken, but he was pretty sure it had something to do with the fact that he was now alone in Kurts bed. Looking confused he walked to the window and saw the snow. Crisp, white and so pristine it was almost surreal. His eyes scanned the darkened horizon until he saw the small trail of footprints that led up the drive-way beneath him and out onto the street. With a confused final glance, he left the room and walked quietly down the stairs.

Kurt wasn't in the kitchen, or the living room, or anywhere else in the house for that matter. When Blaine noticed Kurts boots weren't beside the door, he decided he need to go outside and find him. Slipping on shoes and one of Kurts hoodies, he slipped out of the front door.
The trail of footprints stretched before him, a solitary path, one single blemish along the vast sea of white. Shoving his hands further into his pockets, Blaine started to follow the path, his own footprints mingling with those already in the snow.

Lima looked beautiful. The whole town was lost under the charm of the snow, looking like a more magical version of itself. Blaine grinned into the darkness when he saw a figure up ahead. The way he stood, the air of calm that washed over Blaine, and the tops of a pair of bright red doc martens peaking out above the snow made Blaine heart flutter. He trod as lightly as he could, but the tell-tale crunch of his feet gave him away. When he was within about 10 metres of Kurt, his boyfriend turned around, looking confused and alarmed until he saw it was no one to fear, just his curly haired hobbit of a boyfriend sneaking up on him.

Blaines pace quickened, more snow flying from under his feet with every stride. When he reached Kurt, the two boys linked hands. Blaine opened his mouth as of to say something, but kurt brought a finger to his lips and pointed to the sky in front of them.

The sunrise was stunning. It lit up the world around them with a glow of something more than just light. It seemed to warm the heart even when the world was so cold. Blames mouth was agape as he watched, kurt moving behind his to wrap his arms around his shorter boyfriend. He was happy Blaine had come to find him. Usually he'd come here with a heavy heart, thinking of sad times and his woes. This year however he came with thoughts of love and hope for the future. He came with the knowledge that he was in love, and was loved in return, something he never thought would happen to him. He came with songs in his head, serenading of how it was cold outside and he really should stay. For once there was a smile on his face that didn't just come from moving muscles, it came from the depths of his heart and soul. Neither of the boys spoke for the whole time but somehow they knew that this moment would be a turning point for them. They each felt a sort of ache deep inside that was so raw and painful that they couldnt help but want more. There was an ache and a connection that neither quite understood yet, but eventually would realise was the mark of true love. It was the raw burning of standing so close to your soulmate, and being as one.

Blaine stated straight into the sky, awe on his face and whispered "it's beautiful, isn't it?"
With tears in his eyes and a wide smile on his face, kurt looked right at the beautiful man in his arms.
"yeah... It is..."
