Blaine laid on the couch watching TV with his boyfriend. Strong arms wrapped around his waist, Blaine snuggled deeper into the warmth. He loved nights like this where they ordered in and watched mindless TV just catching up on life together.
As they laid snuggled up on the couch Blaine's phone started ringing. He heard a groan from behind him and the arms around his waist tightened.
"Let it go to voice-mail."
"I can't ... it could be important."
Blaine got up fast and ran to the ring of his phone. As soon as he looked down to the caller ID his heart stopped and a wave of memories crashed to the front of his mind.
CALL FROM: KURT HUMMEL
Memories numbed him; 'You move me Kurt' 'I love you' 'No I want to go back to your house...' 'I was with someone.'
Blaine didn't know whether to answer or not...it had been two years. They hadn't talked in forever. Taking a deep breath he pushed the talk button and brought the phone to his ear.
"H-hello..."
There was a silence on the other end and for a moment Blaine thought maybe this was a butt dial until a soft voice came out the other end.
"Blaine?" He still sounded the same - voice higher than most men but more pure and sharp.
"Yea, yea it's me."
"Uhm its Kurt."
Blaine laughed a little. "Duh... I got that from the caller ID Kurt."
"O-oh right."
"Kurt I was joking ..."
"Right I knew that." There were a few beats of silence before Kurt spoke again. "It's really good to hear your voice. I missed talking to you."
"I missed talking to you too Kurt, you were my best friend before anything happened between us."
"I know...it's my fault rea-."
"No its not and we both know it Kurt."
There was more silence neither knowing what to say. Kurt was the first to speak.
"Remember how you told me I could talk to you about anything?"
"Of course I remember."
"Can I uhm still take advantage of that?"
"Y-yea, definitely, uhm what's up?"
Blaine heard a small sigh on the other end and then Kurt's voice spilled through the receiver.
"Okay well uhm I know it's been a few years but I just - need some help. My b-boyfriend, Taylor, his name is Taylor, we've been dating for awhile and he asked me if I wanted to move in with him. I love him I really do but I'm scared to move in because that's a whole new level of commitment and I just.... I don't know! And I know this is probably really awkward but I know that even after everything that went down you will tell me what to do."
Blaine stayed silent for only a moment. "Kurt you know I can't just tell you what to do but I can give you advice."
"...okay."
"Right, so how long have you and Taylor been dating?"
"Uhmm a yearish."
"Okay and you love him?" How am I being so calm about this Blaine thought.
"Very much." Kurt said quietly.
"Could you uhm see a future with him?" Kurt was quiet longer than Blaine liked. "Kurt?"
"What? - sorry yes, I could see a future with him."
"Then what's the issue?"
"I - I don't actually know anymore..."
Blaine giggled. "I think you knew the answer all along you just needed someone to reassure you."
He heard Kurt let out a breath. "Thank you Blaine - you don't even know what this means to me."
"Kurt I will always be here."
"I know you will."
"Kurt - I'm really happy you found someone."
"Thank you Blaine. I'm happy too. Uhm how are you doing?"
"I'm good, living in California, going to school and working at this coffee shop as cliché as that sounds." He heard a small laugh from Kurt which made him smile. "I uh live with my boyfriend Joshua." Blaine said rubbing the back of his neck.
"That's really great Blaine. You sound really good."
"So do you Kurt. Besides the whole moving drama what's been up in your life?"
After that Blaine sat back and listened to Kurt chat about his promotion at Vogue and getting an assistant of his own. And how he was still going to NYU and majoring in fashion design. He also talked a little bit about Rachel and how she was doing. Blaine couldn't help but smile as they talked like they once used to - like old friends. He had missed this, missed Kurt.
"Babe?" He heard called from down the hall.
"One second!!" He called back. "Hey Kurt I have to go, but I would love if we could do this again."
"I would love that too Blaine."
"Okay well I guess I will talk to you later then?"
"Definitely!"
"Alright bye Kurt."
"Bye Blaine."
After hanging up, Blaine slowly padded down the hall back into the living room.
"Who was it babe?"
"Just an old friend." Blaine replied, falling into Joshua's outstretched arms.
Joshua kissed his lips lightly and smiled against his cheek. "Was it fun catching up?"
Blaine nodded. "Yea, I missed him."
"Well that's great."
Blaine just nodded again snuggling further into Joshua.
"I love you babe."
"I love you too." Blaine said with a happy sigh. And Blaine was really happy - he had finally got back in touch with Kurt and they both had great things going for them. And while they were both each others first loves, they were able to find that same connection in others.
