“This is definitely not how I imagined Scandals would look.”
Kurt spoke to Blaine as they walked into the bar, looking around. The furniture looked old and dingy, as did the bartenders. A hazy smoke hung in the air, giving the club a slight claustrophobic feel. Through the dark haze, Sebastian found them and called them over, smiling.
“Hey guys! Glad you could make it,” he said, smiling at Blaine. He handed Blaine a beer, and Kurt a dainty little martini with a smirk. “I heard you were designated driver. Like, all the time.”
Kurt’s smile was a little too forced.
Sebastian dragged Blaine over to the dance floor and started dancing around him, while Kurt downed his martini. He glared at Sebastian over the rim of his glass. Kurt didn’t like Sebastian, at all. Because of him, Blaine and Kurt were in a gay bar of all places, surrounded by middle-aged men dressed in drag.
Setting down his glass, Kurt strode over to Blaine, completely ignoring Sebastian as he pressed himself against his boyfriend, smiling. The music changed to a faster song, and Sebastian hovered awkwardly around them as he tried to find a way to dance with Blaine again. Eventually he just sat back down and settled on watching them instead. He ordered another martini for Kurt from the bartender, and pulled a small vial out of his front pocket, checking to make sure Kurt wasn’t looking. He poured the contents into Kurt’s glass just as Kurt and Blaine came back to the bar, pink-faced and out of breath.
“Here you go, Kurt. Drink up,” he said, giving Kurt his most charming smile.
Kurt smiled, but it looked more like a grimace. He took the glass and drank it all, licking his lips and setting the glass back on the bar. He smiled at Blaine and they went back to the dance floor.
Sebastian smiled to himself.
All he needed to do was wait.
————Kurt laughed. Everything felt light and funny and wonderful and happy. Blaine was on his third beer and was drunk, but not annoyingly so. They were in the middle of the dance floor, dancing like idiots and just having a good time. The music might have been too retro for Kurt’s taste, but he didn’t care because he was here with Blaine and Sebastian hadn’t bothered them.
Sebastian.
Ugh.
What a buttface. Couldn’t he just understand that Blaine was his and not Sebastian’s? Sure, maybe Blaine hadn’t noticed Sebastian’s outrageous flirting, but that didn’t mean Kurt hadn’t. And he didn’t like it.
“Blaine!” Blaine was too busy doing a bad moonwalk to hear Kurt. “Blaine!” He finally looked up. “What time is it? We should probably get home.”
Blaine looked down at his watch and his eyes bugged out of his head. “Oops,” he said, a bit drunkedly. “It’s late, Kurt. We should get goin’.” Dear god, was Blaine slurring?
“Mmkay, lets go then.” Kurt led them out of the bar, looking back at Sebastian to see a smug smile on his face, staring after Kurt and Blaine’s retreating backs.
Well that’s creepy.
——————“Kurt, hey Kurt.”
“Yes, Blaine?”
“Kurt, I love this place. I just wanna live here. I want to live here…and make art, and help people.”
Blaine smiled up at Kurt, who was holding him up. Ugh, when had the ground become so slanted? He heard Kurt say something under his breath. Something about starting a fire with breath. Woah, dragons?
And suddenly Kurt was in Blaine’s space, trying to get him into the car, and Blaine just had to kiss him.
“Hey, kiss me,” Blaine said, leaning clumsily into Kurt, trying to find his lips.
“No no no, just get in the car,” Kurt said, laughing, tilting his head up. Blaine decided to kiss Kurt’s neck instead.
“Come onnn, kiss me.”
“Get in the car, Blaine…”
Suddenly Blaine found himself sitting in the backseat, looking up at Kurt who was trying to shove the rest of him into the car. Then Blaine had a brilliant idea.
He pulled a wriggling Kurt on top of him, then started kissing his neck. God, he loved Kurt’s neck. He made his way up to Kurt’s mouth, then ran his tongue along Kurt’s lips, hearing him moan. Hands went everywhere—Kurt’s hands were tracing patterns on Blaine’s arms and his fingers were working magic in Blaine’s hair, and Blaine’s hands were roaming his boyfriend’s back, freely groping his butt. Anything to get Kurt to moan like that again.
It’s when Blaine reached for Kurt’s zipper that Kurt pulled away.
“Blaine, we shouldn’t—”
“Kurt I know that you wanted this to be special and happen somewhere else, but I want you so bad. And we’re both here, right? It’s just us that matters. Lets just do it,” Blaine breathed the words, not sure if he was thinking aloud or not. Though obviously he said them, because then Kurt got out of the car. He looked upset. Uh oh.
“No, we shouldn’t do this.”
“Kurt, but why no—”
“Because you spent half the night dancing with another guy! If it really is about us, then I want you to be sober enough to remember it the next day!”
Woah. Why was he yelling at Blaine?
“Why are you yelling at me?”
“Because I’ve never felt less like being intimate with someone than I do now. And either you don’t know or you just don’t care.”
Okay, this was too much. Blaine could feel his mind becoming clearer, little by little. And even though what Kurt was saying made sense, the rejection still hurt. So Blaine stood up and started walking away.
“Well, I’m sorry, if I was trying to be spontaneous and fun!” he said, throwing up his arms. There was a moment of tense silence, each waiting for the other to say something, before Blaine finally said, “I…I’m gonna walk home.”
He heard Kurt call after him, in tears, but Blaine couldn’t bring himself to turn around. Shame and embarrasment replaced the drunkness, and upon finally getting to the highway, he was mostly sober.
He needed to catch a bus or a taxi or something… anything to get him out of here.
——————-“Blaine! Blaine!”
Kurt tried calling for Blaine, trying to get him to come back, but it was pretty obvious Blaine wasn’t turning around. He just kept walking.
“Shoot,” Kurt muttered in a broken voice, not even trying to wipe away his tears. He yanked open the car door and climbed in, and just drove. But as he was driving, he started to feel strange.
It started as dizziness, so slight he could barely notice it was there. Then it got stronger and stronger, until he could hear the blood pounding in his ears. Everything felt heavy, as if there were 1000 pound weights on his arms and legs, and his chest felt as if it was being crushed by an elephant.
He couldn’t have stopped the car if he wanted to.Panic raced through his veins as he tried to see straight and move his foot to the brake but he couldn’t, and his arms and eyelids sagged and his head dropped, and he had this feeling that he should probably stop the car, because that’s why he was moving so fast, right? Then suddenly there was a really loud, slamming sound and the world was thrown forward, or maybe it was stopped and only Kurt kept moving, who knew, really? Then Kurt was slammed into the steering wheel and he heard a snap and the sound hurt and oh god his head, why did everything hurt so much?
He was almost grateful when everything went black.
——————Blaine’s phone rang. It was oddly loud in the empty bus.
“Hello?”
“Hey there, Blaine! How’s it going? I saw you guys leaving and I didn’t get to say bye.”
Ugh, Sebastian. Blaine really didn’t want to talk to anyone right now, let alone him.
“Yeah, it was getting late, we had to go.”
“Aw man. Kurt getting ya down?”
“No, Sebastian. It was getting late, we had to go.”
“Yeah, well is Kurt with you now?” He sounded oddly sure of what the answer would be already. Hm. Strange.
“…no, we got into a bit of an argument in the parking lot.”
“Aw, I’m sorry.” He didn’t sound sorry at all. “Hey, how about you come to my place so I could…cheer you up?”
Blaine sighed exasperatedly. “No, Sebastian.”
“Are you sure? You sound…lonely. Stud like you shouldn’t be alone on a Friday night.”
“I said no. I’m hanging up now.”
“Okay, fine then, by—”
He hung up without letting Sebastian finish.
Blaine sighed and stared out the dirty bus window. It was all his fault. He shouldn’t have pressured Kurt, especially in a car, of all places. God, he was such an idiot. He wouldn’t be surprised if Kurt was angry for weeks at him for this—or worse, broke up with him. Blaine slumped forward and rested his head on his hands. He almost growled when his phone rang again. “Sebastian, I said I don’t want to go with you!” he said forcefully. The driver gave him a strange look from the front mirror.
“Uhm, Mr. Anderson, this is a Officer Grey, calling from Kurt Hummel’s phone.” Blaine felt his blood run ice cold. Why did a police officer have Kurt’s phone?
“What happened?"
“Mr. Hummel has been in a car accident, and we tried calling his father, Burt Hummel, but there was no response.”
“Yeah, Burt’s out of town right now…Oh my god is Kurt okay?” Blaine could feel tears building up behind his eyes. This is all your fault. A small voice in the back of his mind whispered and he clenched his eyes trying desperately to calm his thoughts.
“The paramedics are trying to stabilize Mr. Hummel at the moment, but it appears he will be fine. Is it possible for you to come here?”
‘All your fault, all your fault.’ A nagging voice in his head was keeping a constant whisper, a taunt. He bit his lip to restrain from lashing out as he took a few breaths once again.
“Of course, of course.” Blaine took the location from the officer—a random back road—and took another bus to the scene.
He was crying the whole time, fingers unable to stay still, stomach in tight knots.
‘All your fault, all your fault.’ The voice was getting louder and louder now.
When he got to the place where Kurt was, he almost passed out from anxiety when he saw the police and ambulance lights. The lights were promises of pain and panic.
Then he saw Kurt’s car bent awkwardly around a tree, and Kurt on a stretcher. Kurt looked so pale and feeble, and Blaine actually swayed where he stood; he was on the brink of passing out. Too much, everything was too much. A paramedic held him steady, and started speaking to him—just some details about the crash, but Blaine couldn’t hear anything, only the steady chant of all your fault, all your fault that was growing louder and louder with every passing second. And he couldn’t see anything except Kurt, illuminated by flashing red and blue lights, laying there looking utterly broken. He heard a couple passing words from the paramedic—broken rib…slight concussion…he was lucky…could’ve been a lot worse.
But what Blaine was trying to understand was why Kurt had crashed in the first place. He only had what Sebastian had given him—
Sebastian.
Blaine was hit with a sudden realization, so sudden that he acutally jolted, causing the paramedics to give him strange looks. He ignored them.
Blaine had seen Sebastian putting something—a vial?—back into his pocket before giving Kurt his drink with a fake smile on his face. He hadn’t thought much of it, but now, it all made sense.
All your fault, all your fault.
——————-Ugh, my head… Kurt stirred. His head hurt like hell. It was pounding mercilessly. The light glowing above him only made it worse. He tried to shift away from it, but when he did, a piercing pain in his chest made him cry out.
“He’s waking up!” someone exclaimed.
“B-Blaine?”
“Kurt? Oh my god babe, I am so sorry, so so sorry, this was all my fault, and I should’ve never left you alone in that parking lot, I should’ve gone with you—”
Kurt winced at the onslaught of speaking. “Noise,” he mumbled.
“Oh,” Blaine whispered. “Sorry.” Kurt felt Blaine grab his hand, and turned his head slowly to look at him. Worry was etched in lines all over his face, along with self blame.
“Blaine…it’s fine. This wasn’t your fault. Something happened, I passed out at the wheel. I’m not sure why, though.” Kurt saw Blaine’s face darken.
“It was Sebastian. He put something in your drink. I told the police, and they ran some blood tests on you. What he gave you made you pass out and crash into a tree. That bastard.” A softer look came over Blaine’s face. “But…I’m sorry about our fight. You were right…our first time shouldn’t be like that. I was drunk, and…I’m sorry.”
“Blaine, it’s fine," he croaked. He still felt weak and it hurt to talk. "It wasn’t as bad as the last time you were drunk and made out with Rachel.” Kurt smiled and Blaine ducked his head, laughing.
“But I’m sorry too,” said Kurt, as they got serious again. “I just wanted to be your gay bar superstar, but try as I might, I’m still just a silly romantic.”
Blaine gave him an intense look, whispering “It’s not silly,” as he leaned in slowly, as if giving Kurt a chance to pull away. But Kurt leaned in, and their lips met in a sweet, tender kiss. He heard Blaine sigh contentedly and smiled. He could never stay mad at him.
“Blaine…when this is all over and I’m better…I want to go to your house. We’ll make it special.”
Blaine’s honey amber eyes teared up, and he smiled tremulously at Kurt with so much love and tenderness. Kurt smiled back as Blaine spoke, his voice trembling slightly.
"Okay."
