Blaine freezes as he opens the door to his and Kurt's apartment. He notices the untouched couch-not even the wool blanket he pulled over a shivering Kurt this morning with a kiss to the forehead. The TV was off, the soup bowl gone. Blaine dropped his bag the instant he heard the clank of bottles from the bathroom.
"Kurt?" Blaine called, rushing towards the room. "Kurt are you—oh,Kurt."
Blaine gasps, stills his whole body as he takes in the sight of Kurt. Mussed hair, paled face, rumpled clothes and sweat beading down his face. He knew how bad Kurt always felt every time his path to recovery took a turn for the worst; such a frequent occurrence lately. His heart twisted and he just wanted to take the pain away.
"Get out, Blaine. I look like awful and—" Kurt coughs, turns his head slightly from where he's leaned over the toilet and heaves. He cries out another, "Get out."
Blaine shakes his head, muttering sweet endearments as he rubs soothing circles to the back of Kurt's (well, it's actually his) sweaty shirt, helping him through it. "It's okay, Kurt. Just let it all out."
"Blaine-" Kurt heaves, his eyes beginning to tear and voice rasping.
"I'll be right back. I'm going to go get you a glass of water. Will you be okay while I'm gone?"
Kurt grumbles out something that resembles a yes, dry-heaving over the toilet. Blaine presses a kiss to Kurt's hair and rushes towards the kitchen.
He quickly grabs a glass and fills it with water, glancing at the orange bottle of pills on the counter. Kurt probably didn't take them-convinced that it's his time. Blaine's heart stutters and stops as he stares at them. Their Kurt's only lifeline, the only thing that will let Kurt live. He swipes them from off the counter and rushes back.
Kurt's still hunched over the toilet, blood dripping out of the side of his mouth and mingling with the tears from his eyes. His lips are chapper than usual, nearly blue and his veins were prominent on his face. His eyes are droopy, the crows feet and dark bags more noticeable than this morning. The hair he has left has grayed, and he looks so weak, so miserable.
Blaine feels the tears stinging his eyes-but he has to stay strong. He hesitates on calling an ambulance, but slowly slides his hand out of his pocket. He gently sets the pills down by the sink and drops to his knees in front of the most beautiful man he has ever laid his eyes on.
"Kurt, honey-" Blaine chokes out, rubbing his thumb along Kurt's clammy cheek.
"Blaine." Kurt gives a week, teary smile. He says it in such an intimate way, Blaine's breath hitches.
"Yeah?" Blaine sniffles.
"Blaine, sweetie. It's time." Kurt says softly, smile so sweet contrasting to Blaine's fallen face.
"I-I love you so much, Kurt. You are my teenage dream-always and forever will be...for-for eternity." Blaine's sobbing now, pulling Kurt into his arms.
"Eternity." Kurt echoes, his eyes sliding shut.
Blaine drops his hand to Kurt's slow beating heart. Tears slip from his eyes, wetting Kurt's face as he mutters, "eternity" over and over into his hair.
The beats of Kurt's heart become farther and farther apart as the time passes, Blaine's sobbing slowly becoming silent.
"I love you." Kurt mouths, opening his crystal blue eyes one last time before they slide shut again.
And within a matter of seconds, the beating has stopped.
"Eternity."
