"Kurt? What would you do if Blaine proposed to you today?"

Rachel's words were piercing in his ears, and the room got blurry before his eyes. Kurt's stomach curled up and he felt his face freeze up. He rested back against the headboard of the bed and felt himself lose control of his train of thoughts.

He saw Blaine coming towards him with a crooked, but nervous, smile on his lips. He was wearing one of his usual dapper bright colored shirts with a wonderfully cute bowtie in blue, making his eyes pop in that way only Blaine's could. When he stopped in front of Kurt he looked to the ground, his hands balled to fists in the pockets of his dangerously tight jeans.

"Hey beautiful," he said, cocking his head up to look at him from under impossibly long eyelashes.

"Hey. What's going on?" Kurt asked, uncertain what to expect from all this secrecy.

It was only a few hours ago he had got the text from Blaine.

"Meet me outside Dalton at 3."

He had read it over and over again to be sure he had actually understood the words correctly. Dalton. He hadn't been to Dalton for nearly a year, and even though Blaine visited his friends there from time to time they had never as much as discussed Kurt joining him - and what would they even be doing there if no one was there?

"Come here. I wanna show you something," he declared, his voice thick and his eyes flickering. He reached his left hand out and offered it to Kurt who just stared at it for a second, but decided that he'd better take it.

Kurt let his hand close around Blaine's, and even though it was February and it was freezing outside, the feeling of Blaine's palm against his made him warm and fuzzy inside. Kurt had always expected that when he finally got a boyfriend the feeling of new love and butterflies would disappear after the first month or two... but not with Blaine. With Blaine it had only grown stronger.

"Where are we going? Blaine, it's Saturday, we can't be here -" Kurt mumbled well-knowing that when Blaine had a plan it didn't matter what he said, because that was how it was going to be.

"You'll find out soon enough," Blaine assured him as they walked down the empty hall of the extravagant building.

How this is actually serving as a school I will never understand, Kurt thought to himself as he faithfully followed his boyfriend's lead.

Blaine pushed open a double door before he strolled in like he was at home. Understandable as Dalton had once been his home, and Kurt wasn't doubting that he still felt it like that. Yet, he was out of his uniform and in McKinley. For Kurt. Because Kurt asked him to.

"So... any memories coming to you?" Blaine asked and let go of his hand, before he started walking around the dark wooden tables.

Sure, memories were coming to him. They had spent endless amounts of hours in this room drinking coffee, studying and discussing plans for The Warblers. Later on it had evolved to holding hands under the table, and giggling and blushing whenever their eyes accidentally met while the other Warbler boys were with them.

Blaine sat down at a table in the middle of the room, pushing out the chair next to his and gesturing for Kurt to come sit. He looked a bit nervous around before he crossed the floor and sat down, nearly at the edge of the seat. He couldn't help feeling that it was wrong of them to be in the school on a Saturday, even when the rest of the school was completely deserted.

"Kurt... this... is really weird. This is really hard for me to say, but I have to do it, because... it's what's right." His voice was shaking, and it was like he was having a hard time even breathing.

"Blaine, what's going on? Are you oka -" Kurt started but was quickly cut off.

"Please. Let me finish, and I promise you can talk all you want after," Blaine begged and searched Kurt's eyes, waiting for his promise, so he nodded.

"Kurt, I know we've only been together for... not even a year. And we haven't even been with other people. But - the thing is... I don't wanna be with other people. Ever. I was such an idiot when I met you. I knew that you were special - from the moment we talked the first time, and I knew that I couldn't let you out of my life. But I was a jerk, because I didn't realize just how special you were... to me."

He paused, and Kurt let the words run freely from his ears to his brain, but it was like they couldn't find ground.

"I ran, Kurt. Like I had done so many other times in my life. With important things. Things I shouldn't have run away from. But then that one day - I will never forget it, I know that I can't. When you were singing Blackbird all of your love and passion just; it was like I was hit by a train. I had never experienced anything like it, and I knew that... this was the one single most important thing in my life, and if I kept running away I would keep on being scared... and alone."

Blaine let his hand reach out between them to fold around Kurt's that he had lying in his lap. He was staring, he knew that. His mouth was hanging open and he had to be looking ridiculous, but he was frozen in the spot.

"You were the one thing I didn't want to run away from. All I wanted was to run to you. So I did. And you welcomed me. From that moment on I finally felt like myself. I finally felt like - I could be a person again. With you holding my hand, I can do anything."

He slipped out of his chair and to the floor. When Kurt finally got his body to react he found Blaine on one knee in front of him with a little, burgundy velvet box in his one hand, the other still locked around Kurt's.

He gulped. What was he thinking? It had to be a dream? Was it a dream or a nightmare? Kurt wasn't sure. How did Blaine expect him to react? And he had even promised not to speak.

Shit.

"Kurt. I wanna give you the world. I know that I can't... but that doesn't mean I'm not gonna keep on trying. You deserve the world. But - will you share the world with me? Forever. Will you... marry me? Some day?"

Kurt's heart raced away like a hummingbird's wings in his chest, and his stomach was doing cartwheels.

So this was his time to talk? Now he could say something? Now he was supposed to say something? But what?

"Kurt? Kurt! Are you listening?"

Rachel's pitch was sharp in his ears and the room materialized for his eyes again. Yeah, what would he do if Blaine proposed to him now?
