Blaine tells Kurt that he wants to go back to a public school. Like McKinley. (FLUFF)
Author's Notes: I was trying to write down my headcanon for Blaine's transfer on Tumblr, and then it turned into this little one-shot.
It's a week before the new start of the school year. Kurt and Blaine are lying on Kurt's bed. Blaine's head is resting on his boyfriend's chest, his right arm resting on the boy's stomach and his other wrapped around his shoulders. Kurt is drawing meaningless lines on Blaine's back with his index finger. He looks at him, eyes filled with love and sighs.
"I don't want to go back to school. I'm going to miss you."
Blaine smirks and lifts his head to peck Kurt on the lips. "Do you remember what I told you when I first met you? That I ran away from my bullies at my old school?"
Kurt looks confused, but then he nods. "Of course I remember. I remember everything you ever told me. But why are you asking me this now?"
"I've been thinking about it. My dad isn't being really... supportive anymore of Dalton, because it's an all-boys school and he doesn't like that. He's afraid I'm going to be sleeping around with boys when you and I are... over." Kurt stops breathing for a moment, until Blaine continues. "Not that that's going to happen, ever. But well... You know him."
Kurt nods. He rubs Blaine's back. "I know, honey, I know. But he does know that it's only for a year, right? That you'll go to college afterwards?"
"Yes, he does, but that's not what I'm trying to say, Kurt. It's just... I'm afraid of the real world. I'm afraid to hold your hand in public. I'm afraid to give you a kiss when we're going out," Blaine looks up to Kurt and cups his face, "I do it, because I love you, but I'm afraid when I do it. And I don't want to be afraid anymore, Kurt. I want to be able to go to a party when we're in college and to just kiss you when I want to. To hold your hand when we're walking on the street, without looking around for people who are mocking us."
Kurt doesn't say anything. He knows. He's afraid too, but he's used to being harassed. He's used to people not liking him for who he is. And he is used to giving them witty comebacks. He learned that last year: it's better to be yourself and being bullied because of it than adapting and being accepted. Kurt had learned to be brave, but Blaine... He just wasn't quite there yet.
"I talked about it with my mom, about being afraid. And she... she mentioned something about... getting back to the real world," Blaine looked up to Kurt, "She said that Dalton was what I needed after being bullied, that it was a safe place to take a breath and to become more confident of myself. And that she thinks it would be a good idea to go back to... a public school. So I can get used to the real world."
Kurt inhales sharply. "You're not going back to your old school, are you? Blaine, they beat you up there! You seriously can't be doing that!"
Blaine chuckles. "No, I'm not going back there, Kurt. Because my mom also said that it could be good to not have to face it alone," he sat up and grabbed Kurt's hands, "I could come to McKinley, Kurt. I could face them with you.”
"You want to transfer to McKinley?", Kurt asked. Just to make sure that he wasn't imagining things.
Blaine smiles and nods. "My mom already talked to Figgins. And of course only I’d only do it if you support my decision. If you think it will make things harder for you, I won't. But I think this might be good for the both of us. And we'd have more time together."
Kurt just blinks a few times, trying to avoid tearing up, but he fails. He cups Blaine's face with both his hands and just kisses him. The kiss reminds him of their first one, passionate and full of emotion.
Blaine pulls back first, his hand still on Kurt’s cheek. “So what do you think, Kurt? And don’t just say ‘yes’ because you want us to spend time together.”
“I’d love you to come to McKinley,” Kurt answers smilingly, “if you are one hundred percent sure that you want to and can handle Karofsky and slushie facials.”
“There’s nothing I’d rather do than show Karofsky what true love is,” Blaine says bravely, and then wiggles his eyebrows “And I heard that Sam and Quinn fell for each other when she was helping him getting clean. So maybe…”
Kurt slaps him across his chest. “Blaine! Don’t you even think about doing… that at school! I told you: bedroom only”, he smirks when he thinks back about their cinema dates, “Well, bedrooms and cars.”
“We’re in a bedroom now”, Blaine states, before launching himself into Kurt. Knowing that he’d be able to kiss Kurt so much more now he was going to transfer, made him so happy.
And Kurt murmuring “I love you” in-between kisses, made him even happier.
“I love you too.”
