Author's Notes: beta'ed by http://www.behindthesehazeleyesxo.tumblr.com Wrote this a long time ago. Blaine and Kurt are the same age!
“Aunt Rachel? It’s Jade here.”
Jade was Kurt and Blaine’s 14-year-old daughter. Her aunt and godmother Rachel had told her that she could always call her if she needed some girl talk. And Jade needed some girl talk now.
“Hi sweetie,” Rachel answered enthusiastically.
“How are you? I’m coming over tonight, didn’t your dad tell you?”
“He did,” she was fidgeting with the hem of her shirt now, “But uhm… I kind of need your help, auntie. You said that I could always call you for girl stuff.”
“That’s true, honey… Is this about a boy?”
Rachel couldn’t hold back a little chuckle. She had always dreamed of talking about boys with her daughter- or with her goddaughter in this case.
Jade let out a chuckle. A perfect copy of her father’s voice.
“No, it’s not about a boy. It’s uhm… I got my period today.”
Rachel let out a squeal. “Oh honey! Congratulations!”
“Uhm… thanks”, the girl muttered.
Rachel understood that she had to keep her excitement down. She remembered her dads’ over-enthusiastic reactions when she got her first period, and that had been very embarrassing.
“Do you have a lot of cramps?”
“No, it’s… okay. It hurts a bit though. And I have a head ache, is that normal?”
Rachel smiled. “That’s perfectly normal, sweetie. Every woman experiences it differently. Oh, do you have pads at home? With two dads, that’s usually not something common in the house.”
“I have some from that advert from Always that came in the mail a year ago”, Jade answered.
This wasn’t as embarrassing as she thought it would be. Auntie Rachel understood what she was going through, “But… could you bring some more when you come over tonight? I would ask Dad or Papa, but-”
Rachel chuckled. “They’re guys. And you think that they will overreact. Especially your dad, I know him.”
“Yeah. Could you maybe… tell them?”
That was what Jade definitely didn’t want to do. She just knew her dad would make a big spectacle, because… He is like that. She loves him, but he’s a bit of a drama queen sometimes. Just like her papa is kind of a goofball most of the time.
“Of course, honey. And I’ll come over sooner, is that good?” Rachel said, “Then I’ll explain how to use all these things, I know it can be a scary the first time.”
“That’s great. Thank you.”
“Everything for my favourite niece. Love you!”
“I love you too.”
~
“You’re early, Rachel! I wasn’t expecting you for another hour!” Kurt exclaimed when she walked in through the backdoor,
“How are you?”
Rachel embraced him. “I’m good! Where’s your sexy husband?”
“Oh, he’s in the living room,” he walked to the door “Blaine! Rachel’s already here!”
A few seconds later he walked in the kitchen. “Hey sweetheart! What are you doing here so early?”
Rachel smiled. “Well, Jade called me. She needs some girl talk.”
Kurt raised his eyebrows and Blaine had a huge grin on his face. “Does she have a boyfriend?”
“No, that’s not it. Well, not that I know of,” she smiled at them, “She got her first period today and she didn’t know how to tell you…”
Kurt and Blaine looked at each other. This meant that their little girl was growing up. Blaine smiled.
“That explains the weird behaviour today. And she was afraid of telling us?” He couldn’t help feeling a little hurt. Jade was their baby girl, she could tell them anything.
“Oh gosh, should we organize a party? Or give her a present?”
Kurt was thinking out loud. Until he saw the glares of his husband and his best friend. Rachel gestured at him, and Blaine gave her a knowing look.
Rachel put her hands on Kurt’s shoulders in an attempt to calm him down. “Kurt, did you want a party when you had your first wet dream?”
He cringed. “Oh god. Oh no. So I guess we shouldn’t make a big drama about this?”
Blaine smiled. “I guess that’s for the best,” he kissed Kurt, “What we do need to do is figure these things out. Jade will need pads or tampons.”
“I’ve got you covered there,” Rachel said, “I bought a few different brands at the store; she’ll just need to pick what she likes best. And she can always ask me or Mercedes.”
Kurt smiled. “Thanks Rachel. So… should we talk about this with her?”
“Just let her know that it’s normal, that she can talk about this with you and that you won’t freak out. She’ll feel a little awkward talking about this, that’s why she wanted me to tell you”, Rachel answered,
“And it might be time to give her some information on being safe, since she can actually get pregnant now.”
The word ‘pregnant’ gave both dads a little panic attack. They hadn’t thought about that. Well… They were going to have a talk with their daughter.
~
Jade was laying curled up on the couch and reading a book. Kurt and Blaine sat on the other couch in front of her. They had decided that tonight would be a good moment to have ‘The Talk’. It was weekend and they were relaxed.
“Jade, sweetie, Papa and I wanted to talk to you,” Kurt started,
“We talked a bit about this during dinner, about… your period and all these things. But Papa and I thought we might talk a bit more about it, if you’re okay with it?”
The girl tensed a bit, but she knew that she couldn’t escape this. “I guess it’s okay.”
“Okay, so obviously we want you to know that you can always talk with us about anything. Talking about ‘normal’ stuff isn’t hard, you talk a lot about school and about your friends and we really enjoy that.”
Kurt smiled at her, “But now you’re a teenager, things are changing and it’s… harder to talk about it.”
Blaine and Kurt had agreed that Kurt would do the normal talking and Blaine would do the… sex subject. So he started talking.
“Daddy and I… we wondered why you didn’t feel like you could tell us about your period. We know it’s a little awkward, but we’re really here for you. You can talk to us about things you feel insecure about. Like boys, or girls, that doesn’t matter, or about alcohol, drugs, or about sex.”
Jade sighed. She had a slight blush on her face.
“I guess… It’s just… You are guys and I thought you’d be all… weird about it. Because you don’t really know what it’s like.” She looked at her hands.
“Hey honey, look up,” Kurt was by her side now and had a hand on her cheek, “We will never be ‘weird’ about anything when it’s about you. You’re our daughter. We were teenagers too, so we know that it’s weird to talk about stuff like this. It’s strange talking about how you’re changing. It makes you feel insecure, when your body changes. We know that and you don’t have to talk about it with us. But if you feel insecure, you should talk about it. With your friends, with your aunts, or with us.”
He gave her a kiss, “We are here for you, sweetie. Papa and I really love you.”
Jade threw her arms around Kurt and hugged him. “I love you too,” she looked over to Blaine, “And you too, Papa.”
Blaine smiled. He walked to his husband and daughter to join them in a hug.
When he got up, he stroked over his daughter’s hair.
“Now, there’s something else we wanted to talk about, Jade. You know that once you get your period, it means that you can get pregnant, right?”
She blushed and nodded. “Yeah. I did have Biology, Pops.”
He chuckled and rubbed her over her head. “Smart ass. Anyway, dad and I thought this would be a good occasion to talk to you… about sex.”
“Oh god,” she groaned, “Couldn’t you leave that to aunt Rachel? She actually is a girl.”
Blaine looked over to Kurt. “She has that from you, the whole being shy about sex thing.”
“TOO MUCH INFORMATION!” Jade yelled, “I really don’t want to know about my parents’ … sex life. Please!”
Kurt chuckled. “Okay, we won’t talk about our sex life, Jade. And what you said about your aunt: yes, indeed, she’s a girl. And yes, we don’t know a lot about sex with a girl from our own experience. But that’s not what this is about, Jade.”
“It’s not?” she looked up, “I don’t get what you’re trying to say.”
“The… sexual stuff you’re going to do, you have to figure that out by yourself”, Kurt said.
He wanted to continue, but Blaine interrupted him. “In a few years, please. Let me be clear about that: there is no age when you should have had sex. It’s better to be 20 and be with the right person than being 16 and doing it because everybody does it.”
Kurt nodded. “Papa’s right. It’s important that you know that sex isn’t about the physical stuff only. Of course, it feels good. But you should know that it changes things. It makes you connect to another person,”
He paused a second and looked at his daughter, “Sex is about emotions, it’s about showing another person that you completely trust them. Because you are giving pieces of yourself to that person. Pieces of you that person will always own, so you have to be 100% sure that they’ll never purposely hurt you.”
Blaine smiled at his husband and squeezed his thigh to let him know that he agreed. “Does that make sense, Jade?”
“It does,” she was shifting in her seat, “Can I ask you something?”
“Sure, honey. That’s what this is all about”, Blaine answered.
“How… old were you? When you first did… it?”
Blaine and Kurt looked at each other, remembering that afternoon, so many years ago. “18”, they both said at the same time.
Jade’s eyes grew big. “Together?”
Kurt chuckled. “We’ve been together since we were 17. We were each other’s first real kiss, we were each other’s first boyfriend and we lost our virginity to each other.”
“So you’ve only kissed each other?” Jade asked, less nervous now.
Blaine shook his head. “No. Your dad had a girlfriend before me, I kissed… another girl before your dad and I got together. And we tried seeing other people in college,” he chuckled, “But that didn’t really worked out.”
Jade started laughing. “You both had girlfriends? Really? I mean, Dad, not too mock you, but I’ve seen pictures when you were my age and you definitely… You looked very gay.”
Kurt chuckled. He used to be very skinny and lean, and he always over-dressed when he was younger. In college he learned to tone it down and he started going to the gym, and since then he looked a lot more… masculine.
“Let’s say that my girlfriend at the time wasn’t the brightest. And I did it to impress granddad, because I thought we’d spend more time together if we got to talk about girls. But it didn’t last for very long, we were together for a week.”
Jade’s mouth was still open. Her dad, with a girl. Both her dads with a girl, that was just… weird. She turned to Blaine.
“What about you, Papa? Why did you want to be with a girl?”
“Well, first of all, my parents were never really supportive about me being gay, which is why we don’t see them as often as we see Grandpa Burt and Granny Carole”, Blaine explained to his daughter, “One day your dad invited me to a party at one of his friends’ house. And uhm….”
Blaine was blushing now. How was he supposed to tell his daughter that he had kissed her aunt while he was drunk and that that action had caused his sexuality freak-out.
“Uhm… Okay, well, teenagers make mistakes. Which is why I drunk too much at that party. And well… This is going to sound very irresponsible, so definitely don’t take this as an example”, Blaine stammered.
Kurt and Jade were both trying very hard not to burst out in laughter, but in the end they failed. At the look of his blushing and babbling husband, Kurt couldn’t help it anymore. He just seemed such a teenager again, struggling to explain how and why he had done it.
Blaine protested with a soft ‘hey’, but when that didn’t help, he just started pouting. He knew that he always started stuttering and failing at talking when he was trying to explain something, but you’d think that Kurt would’ve gotten used to it after 22 years.
And Kurt. He knew. He knew that he shouldn’t laugh, but Blaine was so adorable. Once he had stopped laughing so hard, he scooted closer to his pouting husband and wrapped his arms around him.
“I’m sorry, honey, but you’re just so… so cute sometimes.”
Jade smiled at her dads. She didn’t know how it was to have a real mom, but that definitely didn’t matter. Her dads loved each other. A lot. Though she still wanted to know the rest of the story.
“Hey, Papa, do I get the rest of the story? And I promise I won’t drink because you told me you did.”
Blaine smiled again. He continued, after pressing a kiss to Kurt’s temple.
“Right. So, if you are finished with laughing at me, I’ll continue,” he looked very sassy at his family, “Okay. So, I drunk too much at that party and we did this game called ‘Spin the Bottle’.”
Jade face palmed. “Oh my god, Papa, that’s lame.”
He grinned. “I know. But when we were teenagers, it was cool. Anyway, the bottle landed on me after… a girl spinned it. We kissed and I thought, because of the alcohol apparently, that it felt good and that I might not be gay. We tried dating, but that obviously didn’t work out. And kissing with a girl was apparently something I only enjoyed while being drunk.”
Jade giggled again. “Cute, Pops, really cute.”
“Well, at least I didn’t have a big gay freak out in college, like some of our friends,” Blaine defended his situation.
“I’m very glad I married a man, and I’m even happier that it’s this man,” he said as he nudged Kurt playfully.
Kurt smiled. “Glad to hear that you’re not bored after all these years.”
After Jade had let the words of her dads sink in, she had more questions. She had always wondered how you knew that you were straight or gay or whatever without actually having been with a boy and a girl, but apparently none of her friends thought like that.
“So, it’s okay to… not know who you’re attracted to?”
Blaine and Kurt were a little taken aback by the question of their daughter. They had never noticed that Jane had been struggling with all of this. Both men didn’t show their confusion though.
“That’s perfectly normal, sweetie,” Kurt answered.
“Some people, like me or your Uncle Finn, we just knew to whom we were attracted. But your dad, or Aunt Santana, they were confused about this for a while. Your Aunt didn’t come out until she was 18, and then she hadn’t even known for sure that long that she was a lesbian.”
Blaine also gave his piece of advice. “I can imagine it’s even more confusing for you, because you know, you’re growing up in both worlds. At school, with your friends, it’s considered normal to be straight, and here at home you have two dads.”
Kurt took his daughter’s hand. She didn’t seem hurt by any of this, so he was pretty sure she’d be okay with whoever she turned out to be.
“Just don’t rush into labelling yourself. I know that not knowing sucks, but this is important. So, take your time,” he said, “Okay?”
“Okay, Dad,” the girl answered, “But I’m not really… I’m okay with this. It doesn’t really bother me, the not knowing.”
“That’s my girl,” Blaine laughed.
They all disappeared into their own thoughts for a while there. Kurt was resting with his back against his husband’s chest, who had his arms wrapped around him.
Jade loved this kind of moments. She had met a lot of parents of her friends, but she was sure that none of them loved each other like her dads loved each other. It wasn’t that they never fought, because they definitely did every once in a while. It was something she couldn’t explain. They just understood each other. She didn’t believe in all this ‘soul mate’ talk, but maybe… Maybe her Dad and her Papa really were soul mates. Just… meant for each other.

Aw the preteen sage. Jade turns to her aunt Rachel for advice, not her two fathers.
