When Blaine wakes up one Saturday morning, he’s woken up to the sound of screaming.

“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!”

His eyes snap open at the piercing wail, and by the time he’s getting out of the bed, Kurt’s out the room in his robe and slippers. Blaine quickly follows suit by stepping into his own slippers and briskly walking out of his and Kurt’s room.

It’s beyond horrifying, hearing the scream echo down the hall and into his room, and Blaine is terrified that the worse has already happened and he doesn’t have a clue what’s going on. What someone broke into the home? What if a random fire ignited somewhere in the house? And the worst: what if he’s too late?

Blaine becomes fully alert at the thought, his still sleepy mind be damned, and he follows Kurt quickly down the hall.

Another scream is heard, this one louder than before.

“PAPAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!! DAAAADDYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!”

The cry breaks Blaine’s heart, and he begins to sprint the last of the space between him and Toronto’s room before he makes a conscious decision to do so.

When Blaine finally reaches his son’s room, Kurt already has Toronto in his arms, murmuring softly into the young boy’s ears and making quiet shushing noises. Toronto’s face is buried in Kurt’s chest, his small arms curved around the Kurt’s neck as he sits on Kurt’s lap while he continues to cry. Blaine stands by the door, leaning against its frame and crossing his arms to watch the event unfold before him.

Blaine’s also a whole mess of emotions at this point. Seeing Toronto weeping and scared beyond belief kills him inside, but his breath is also taken away by how absolutely nurturing Kurt is being. His husband looks so calm, his perfect voice whispering sweet nothings into their son’s ear and his hands stroking up and down their son’s back. The sight makes Blaine exceptionally proud, because knowing that Kurt is just a good a father as he is a husband makes Blaine love him even more.

Kurt looks at him briefly, taking a break from murmuring words of comfort into Torie’s ear, and he shoots Blaine a tired but not at all bothered smile. Blaine smiles back and mouths, “What happened?” to which Kurt silently replies, “Nightmare.”

Blaine nods before stepping forward and sitting next to Kurt and Toronto on the bed. He stretches his arms out and Kurt quickly whispers into Torie’s ear before the boy nods and scoots over into Blaine’s hold.

“Hey T,” Blaine greets softly, and Toronto hiccups in reply, clutching as tight as he can with his tiny hands into Blaine’s shirt. “What happened?”

“N-n-nightmare, Daddy,” he simply whimpers, burying his face into the crook of Blaine’s neck.

“Nightmare, huh? ‘Bout what, bud?” he asks gently and Toronto replies, “M-m-m-monsters, Daddy, they’re in my ro-room.”

Blaine cracks a smile at that (because it’s obvious that monsters aren’t living in his son’s room), and his eyes glance over to Kurt, who also has a weary smile on his face.

Blaine kisses Torie’s temple before he whispers, “There aren’t any monsters in your room.”

“Yes there are, Daddy!” his son snaps. “And they want to eat me after they take me away from you!” Toronto screeches much too loudly at this hour – or ever, really – before stepping out of Blaine’s arms and throwing himself at Kurt, who automatically opens his arms for the small boy. Blaine sighs, but it’s out of love, and it’s not long before he and Kurt share another tired smile.

Blaine scoots over on the bed until he’s pressing against Kurt, his arms wrapping a secure embrace around his family. He moves his head until he’s able to press another kiss onto Toronto, though this time it’s on his tearstained cheek.

“Well, the monsters aren’t gonna getcha, bud,” Blaine whispers quietly, his arms tightening around both Kurt and Toronto. “They’re not gonna take away my family, and they certainly aren’t going to eat my son,” he finishes, pressing another kiss onto Torie’s cheek.

His son hiccups briefly before stuttering out a quiet “okay”, and Blaine gives one more squeeze into the hug before unwrapping his arms around his family and standing up. Kurt begins murmuring into Torie’s ears again, pressing gentle kisses on every inch that’s covered with tears on Torie’s face before the small boy nods and reaches for Blaine once more. Blaine opens his arms in kind and automatically carries his son out of Kurt’s arms. He shares one more look with Kurt, and his husband simply stands up to give Blaine a quick peck on the cheek before leaving the room.

Blaine uses the alone time with his son to hum quiet lullabies into the silence, reveling in how perfect it is just to have Toronto calming down in his arms. He peeks out of the curtains at one point and realizes that it is still very early in the morning because the sun has only just started to rise.

After humming one more melody, Blaine asks, “Are you okay now, Tor?”

The small boy pulls away from Blaine just enough to look him in the eye and nod silently, one of his thumbs slipping into his mouth. Blaine smiles in reply and kisses Torie briefly on the nose before stepping out of the room and walking down the hall and stairs to walk the kitchen. Kurt’s already working silently, the ingredients to what Blaine is sure are pancakes on the counters.

“Looks like Papa’s making pancakes, T,” Blaine announces, and his son grins, clapping in excitement as Kurt also shoots him a smile. He places Torie into his high chair before helping Kurt out with the pancakes.

As they work together around the kitchen, Kurt quietly says, “Well, this has been an eventful morning.”

Blaine scoffs out a laugh and nods, agreeing quietly before washing his hands and lifting the blinds on the kitchen window. The sun is steadily rising into the sky now, and when Blaine turns around to see how his son’s doing, Toronto’s eyes are wide and are set on the sun peeking through the window.

“Do it again, Daddy,” he says, pointing to the window. “Move the pretty light outside.”

Blaine furrows his brows at the request, but Kurt’s laugh cuts through before he can really dwell on it.

“Torie, Daddy can’t move the sun outside,” Kurt says as he pours batter onto a frying pan.

The young boy pouts at that, though the frown is instantly replaced by a smile when Kurt instead offers to make shapes out of the pancakes.

And if one of them happens to be in the shape of a sun that Blaine has to move in the air for Toronto to pretend that his daddy is moving the sun across the sky, then so be it.

End Notes: This did not at all turn out the way it happened in my mind, but that's okay because it's still very much needed fluff :3Not gonna lie, this came out of almost nowhere, and is very heavily influenced by a song called "Sammy's Song" by Ellen Wilber.Hope you enjoyed and I'm sorry for not being able to update this verse more often!x o x o Just as Sane as I Am
