Author's Notes: So, here it is! My latest. This was going to be a multi-chapter to be published after I finished my other one, but I have decided to publish it as a one-shot and see where it goes. As far as A Rich Man's War goes, I swear I'm doing my best. I know exactly what I want to happen in Chapter 4, but it's executing it that gives me the trouble. So, a huge thanks to my betas (and best friends, the Brittany and Santana to my Quinn), Deirdre and Danielle. Danielle has a great Blangst, but I'm not sure where it's published, if it's published at all! I'll find out and get back to you! Definitely check it out! Now, I have begun to ramble, so I'll shut up and let you guys read! Much love and snuggles! -Sarah
“I’m sorry I’m late, Mr. Greenberg!” Kurt Hummel hurried into his debate classroom, his cheeks flushed. He placed his books on his desk and sat down.
“It’s fine, Mr. Hummel, you’ve made it in plenty of time.”
“Yeah, Mr. Hummel, you’ve made it in plenty of time.”
Kurt groaned as that voice sounded from behind him.
“Mr. Anderson will you please sit in your assigned seat?” Mr. Greenberg asked.
Kurt sighed heavily as Blaine Anderson took the seat next to him. “Do me a favor and keep a lid on it today? It hasn’t even been five minutes and you’re already grating on my nerves, Anderson.” He opened is notebook and uncapped his pen, waiting for what was sure to be a snarky reply.
To put it simply, Blaine Anderson was an asshole. Since the moment he’d transferred to McKinley, Blaine had done nothing but harass and annoy Kurt. Being the only two openly gay students in the school, one would think they would date, or at least form a friendship, but it was the exact opposite. Blaine and Kurt couldn’t be farther from friends.
“Must have stung when you lost that debate last week, didn’t it, Hummel? Oh, and you had all those pretty little index cards!” Blaine quipped, placing his own books on the desk.
Kurt racked his brain for something to say back. It had stung, a lot. He’d worked for hours on his argument and had kept Rachel up until two helping him. He had deserved to win. Suddenly, he smirked. “Must have hurt when I rejected you last week, didn’t it, Anderson? Oh, and you had all those pretty little roses!”
Blaine’s expression changed from arrogant to dejected and Kurt knew he’d won. “I told you, it was a joke the whole time!”
Kurt laughed coldly. “Was it a joke when I saw you rip the card in half and stomp on the flowers?”
“I-” Blaine began, but he was cut off by Mr. Greenberg. “Save it for the debate, you two.” Their teacher said, handing out the packet on today’s debate topic.
“Today, you will be debating ‘The Civil War started the moment the Pilgrims stepped off the Mayflower.’ I assume Mr. Hummel and Mr. Anderson will be taking opposite sides, and the rest of you are free to choose.”
The debate went smoothly and Kurt exacted his revenge on Blaine by proving his point-“the Pilgrims argued from the second they docked the Mayflower in Plymouth Harbor, so yes the Civil War did indeed start in 1620”-to have no merit whatsoever and subsequently winning the debate. He walked out of the room, his head held high.
“Hummel! Hummel, wait up! HUMMEL!”
Kurt turned around to see Blaine skidding to a stop just before him. “What do you want, Anderson?”
“I just wanted to say…well-played.” Blaine offered a hand to Kurt, who eyed him suspiciously.
“Thanks.” He said, still refusing to shake Blaine’s hand. He began to walk away, but Blaine pulled him back by the strap of his bag.
“Listen, Hummel. I really do think you’re alright. Would you please just come to Breadstix with me or something?”
Kurt chewed his tongue. “What are you playing at, Anderson?”
Blaine sighed. “Alright. You got me. Ulterior motive. Don’t you see how you ripped me apart today?”
Kurt nodded slowly. “You want to go out with me because I kicked your ass in the debate?”
Blaine laughed and shook his head. “No. Remember how I tore your argument to pieces last week?”
“Unfortunately.”
“Imagine if we were a team. What we could do together.”
Kurt hesitated. “So…” he began cautiously, “If I did agree to go to Breadstix with you…it would be a business meeting?”
“Yeah, yeah, sure, a business meeting.” Blaine fiddled with his phone and hitched his bag on his shoulder.
“Fine. Okay. I’ll go to Breadstix. But it’s strictly business, Anderson.”
Blaine looked up and grinned. “Cool. You free tonight?”
“Tonight?”
“Well it is Friday, Hummel.”
“Fine, tonight at six.”
“Great. See you then!” Blaine began to walk away.
“Wait! Are we splitting the bill?” Kurt called after him.
Blaine turned around and grinned. “Nope. I’m paying.”
And with that, he sauntered off into the crowd of students in front of him.
End Notes: Okay, so that's it! If people really, really seem to enjoy it, I'll write more chapters, as was my original intent. Okey doke! So, I guess this is how I'm spending my sick day! Read and review, pretty please with lots of sparkles on top! -Sarah---------------------------------------------------------**UPDATE** The way things are going, with four very positive reviews, I believe I will continue this. Seeing as we're both home sick and have nothing else to do, my beta Deirdre and I just hashed out a few very fluffy and a few very angsty plans for later chapters! I've got a short multi-chapter (maybe six chapters? Seven?) ficlet in the works that I am absolutely bent on finishing by this evening and then I want to get a few more chapters of A Rich Man's War going, but I will certainly continue this one in due time! Thank you guys so much! Love, love, love, Sarah.

Okay, this is actually a really cool idea. I've never seen debate!klaine and it's so cool. I'd love to read more (:

This is very amusing, you should continue it.

This is fantastic, it has so much potential! Oh dear, please, please publish more chapters!

i am so intrigued with all the possibilities that this could have as a multi chaptered story. and it kind of feels like there's more to come. i would LOVE to know what blaine meant by "imagine if we were a team." my vote is: continue the story. pretty please with sparkles on top! ;)

It's really great to hear that you'll continue to write this one!

Okay so ya see.... I need to know what's going on here....Write more?I'll be your bestest friend, like.... ever, and we can play starwars in walmart! <333

So I know this is over a year old, but any plans to continue? This was awesome, and I'd love love love to read more!

Actually, I have been working on it a little! I'm so freaking busy what with starting college in the fall and finding a job and such, but I do have a plan to post a new chapter that I wrote a whole ago and it's already been beta'd and what not! But don't count on this being a really regularly updated fic cause I kind of suck at updating and writing and I'll get writer's block and get really discouraged and not write for ages! But thank you for the lovely and positive feedback! It really means the world to me!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!-Sarah
