Kurt started to panic as soon as Blaine was ready for bed that night. It was a Saturday, so Blaine was staying at Kurt's. Earlier they had been to the park for a picnic and then cuddled on the sofa to watch Disney movies, a simple but perfect day. Up until now, Kurt had forgotten all about his fears. But they had just hit him like a freight train. It had all startedMonday night, the anniversary of Kurt's mother's death, when he had a horrible nightmare. This had then continued to happen every night since. The nightmares varied slightly, but all pretty much revolved around the same thing; Kurt's mum dying. And he hated it. He knewtonightwould be no different, and he was scared, because sometimes he could wake up screaming and he didn't know how Blaine would react. He hadn't had nightmares this bad since just after his mother died, but now they were just as awful. He reluctantly slipped on his pyjamas and tucked into his warm bed, snuggling into Blaine's side and holding on for dear life. Blaine turned out the light and held onto Kurt, kissing him on the lips and closing his eyes to sleep. Kurt shut his eyes and began to drift off in Blaine's warm embrace...
Kurt jolted awake, tears running down his flushed cheeks and panting heavily. He took a deep breath and tried to calm down, not wanting to wake Blaine. He was unsuccessful however, and his boyfriend began to stir not a minute later. Kurt was still crying and turned away from Blaine, not wanting to worry his boyfriend. Blaine switched on the light and rubbed his eyes, taking a look at his boyfriend. Kurt was facing away from Blaine, shoulders hunched and shaking slightly, clearly crying but trying to hide it. "Hey, hey, what's wrong baby?" Blaine whispered, concern laced thickly into his voice, turning Kurt's face towards him. Kurt saw the worried look etched onto his boyfriends face and burst into uncontrollable sobs, hiding in Blaine's t-shirt. Blaine's heart broke and he wrapped his arms protectively around his Kurt, hushing him quietly and rocking slightly back and forth. "Kurt? What's the matter, why are you crying?" Blaine tried again, becoming increasingly concerned. "Nightmares. Really bad." Kurt choked out between sobs, clinging to Blaine and soaking his t-shirt in tears. "About your mum?" Blaine asked, although he knew the answer already. Kurt only nodded. "Oh, Kurt. It's okay," Blaine soothed, not really knowing what to say to make things better. He lay down again and pulled Kurt close. Kurt lay his head on Blaine's strong chest, the sound of his heartbeat soothing him immediately. Blaine held Kurt protectively, rubbing circles on his back. He began to sing quietly into Kurt's ear, "baby you're not alone, cause you're here with me, and nothing's ever gonna bring us down..." Kurt smiled and closed his eyes, the soft sound of Blaine's voice lulling him, and he fell into a dreamless, peaceful sleep. Kurt had no nightmares that night, or any night after that, actually, thanks to Blaine.
