Phantoms Of Our Past
Kurt Hummel has recently transferred to Dalton Academy, the only person he knows there being Blaine. He wants to audition for the Warblers, but doesn't realise quite what the initiation test is going to be, and is left humiliated. Will Blaine, who was slowly becoming his best friend, save him from the humiliation, or laugh with the others?Okay, I suck at summaries, obviously, and even though it sounds like it, there is no smut.

Kurt walked into his new dorm room, that he was sharing with his closest friend, Blaine, and dropped the last of his bags on his bed. Blaine looked up from his textbook and grinned.
"You have officially moved in. Congrats, you're a prep boy now"
"Oh ha ha" Kurt glared. "I will never be as dapper as you Blaine Warbler, I'll always be a public school kid at heart"
"Speaking of Warblers...you're joining, right?" Blaine asked, turning so that he was sitting cross-legged on his bed.
He really does look adorable like that Kurt thought. So, maybe he had a crush on his best friend. Big deal, that happened to people all the time...right?
"Earth to Kurt!" Blaine said, waving his hand in front of Kurt's face.
"Hm?" Kurt asked, snapping out of his thoughts.
"I said, you are going to be joining The Warblers, right? Because you have an amazing voice, and we would really benefit from having somebody with such a unique voice as yours...and, I'd love you to be there, it would make practise even better!"
"Oh, right, yeh, of course I'll be joining. If they'll have me, that is. When are auditions?" he asked, willing the blush slowly crawling up his neck to go away.
"Tomorrow at 4pm. Just to warn you, the initiation test can be pretty intense"
Initiation test? What was he talking about? Kurt thought. Oh whatever, he probably just means the auditions...
"Right, noted" Kurt yawned, suddenly feeling tired. He glanced at the clock. 11:30pm.
"Come on sleepyhead, go to bed, because you're going to need to be alert for tomorrow!" Blaine grinned, helping Kurt move his bags off his bed. "We can unpack tomorrow evening, knowing you, you already have your uniform in your wardrobe ready for tomorrow...am I right?"
Kurt ducked his head and nodded.
"I thought so. I'm going to bed too, I have a big algebra test tomorrow. See you in the morning!" Blaine called, as he hopped into bed, with his usual energy and turned off his lamp.
Kurt sighed, got changed into his pyjamas and did the same. Laying his head on his pillow, he couldn't help but feel nervous about auditions tomorrow.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Kurt woke up the next morning, to the sound of Blaine singing in the shower. He smiled, and stretched out, willing himself to be more alert. Glancing at the clock, he realised he only had half an hour until they had to be out of their dorm room for breakfast.
"SHIT!" he yelled, jumping out of his bed, stumbling around in his half sleepy state, attempting to remember what he usually did first in his morning routine.
Okay Kurt, calm down, just think. What do you always do when you first wake up? Shower! Blaine's in the shower...okay, just shower in the evening, or in a free period. Next...get dressed.
He ran to his wardrobe, and got into his uniform as quickly as possible. Just as he was buttoning up his blazer, Blaine came out of the shower in his own uniform.
"Morning Kurt! Isn't it a great day? Look, it's so sunny!" he grinned, looking out of the window.
"Blaine! You do realise that we have 20 minutes until we have to be out of here, right?!" Kurt yelled, searching for his comb and hairspray. How could he get his hair perfect in only 20 minutes?!
"I know! All I have to do is gel my hair, that only takes 5 minutes. We have plenty of time!" he grinned again. Seriously, was there ever a time when this boy wasn't grinning?
"5 minutes? Really? With the amount of gel you use, that only takes 5 minutes?"
"I'm a pro" Blaine smirked, grabbing his hair gel from his nightstand. Kurt watched in awe and he squirted what seemed to be almost the entire tube onto his hand, and combed it into his hair.
"Okay, nobody uses that much gel. That's insane" Kurt said, staring at Blaine.
"It's not insane, when it comes to taming hair as crazy as mine, it's perfectly necassary"
Kurt opened his mouth to fight back, but no sound came out. He shook his head, and continued his attempt in trying to get his hair perfect. 13 minutes, he was satisfied, and grabbed his satchel before running out, almost shutting Blaine in the room in his rush.
"Woah, slow down there, Kurt. We'll be there in time" Blaine laughed, putting his hands on Kurt's shoulders to slow him down.
They reached the dining hall, and sat down with the other Warblers. Kurt chatted with them, talking about how he was definitely going to audition. The initiation test was brought up a couple of times, but he just assumed it was what they called auditions. Soon, way too early for Kurt's liking, 4pm came. There was no sign of Blaine. He seemed to be the only one auditioning. Makes sense I guess, it is the middle of the semester he thought. He sang A Team - Ed Sheeran, and it all seemed to go well. At the end, there was still no sign of Blaine.
"That was great, Kurt!" a short, Asian boy, who Kurt remembered to be called Wes told him. "Now, you just need to pass the initation test"
Wait, what? Kurt thought? That wasn't the initation test?
"Oh, umm...okay...so, what do I-"
Before Kurt could finish his sentence, he found himself being picked up and carried out of the building. He was blindfolded and shoved into what he assumes to be a vehicle of some sort.
"What are you doing?!" Kurt screamed, thrashing around.
"The initiation test" he heard a boy reply. Before he could scream in protest, tape was shoved over his mouth. This didn't stop Kurt attempting to scream and kick his legs, trying to hit someone, anyone. What kind of school had he stepped into? And seriously, where was Blaine?! He didn't know about this, surely...although he did mention an initiation test earlier....
Hot tears ran down Kurt's cheeks, as he felt the vehicle stop. Somebody picked him up, and he was carried to...somewhere. His blazer was shoved off his shoulders, and his tie was taken off. He felt his hands being tied to something cold...it felt like metal. Suddenly, his feet weren't on the ground anymore. He was being lifted higher and higher...what on earth was going on. Kurt kicked and kicked, attempting to scream, but no sound came out. He kicked once more, but felt himself slip slightly, so he stopped. He would have to just stay up...wherever he was, until they let him down. If they let him down. He heard the sound of laughing, and people high-fiving, and a car driving off. God, no...they've left me here to die...
Kurt began to panic, sobbing, unable to do anything. He felt so alone, so ridiculous. He really thought that he would get a fresh new start. But no, it was just the same. A similar thing had happened before, when he was at McKinley. He had been attacked by Karofsky and Azimio, and a few other jocks, and been beaten up and tied to a flagpole. Wait...flagpole.....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Blaine smiled to himself as he walked into the Warbler practise room. He was slightly annoyed that he'd missed Kurt's audition, but he knew he would be in, and he knew he would pass the initiation test. He stopped in his tracks as he saw everyone laughing and clapping each other on the back...but no Kurt.
"Guys..." Blaine said, warily from the door.
"Blaine! Man, you just missed it! That new kid, Kurt, he just auditioned, it was great, and we just put him up for the initiation test!" Thad laughed.
"Where is he?" Blaine asked, his heart beginnning to beat faster.
"At McKinley on a flagpole, of course! That is what the initiation test is, remember?" David said, looking at Blaine, confused.
"No, no, the initiation test is bursting into an impromptu song and seeing how the new person does with keeping up with the backing vocals and dance moves, just like it always has been" Blaine said slowly, his smile fading away.
"No, it was changed recently" Nick informed him.
"Well it's the first I've heard of it!" Blaine yelled.
"Woah, calm down Blaine, it's just a harmless prank" Trent said, rolling his eyes.
"Harmless pr - ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! How exactly is that harmless?! How stupid are you?!" Blaine screamed. "You do realise why he came here, right? To get away from bullying! And what have you gone and done? Done exactly what the bullies from his old school did to him! Yeh, that's right, they beat him up and tied him to the flagpole. This school has an anti-bullying policy as well! Or did you forget that?"
"We didn't actually beat him up. And, it was off campus, so the policy didn't apply" Wes said, as if it was obvious.
"ARE YOU FUCKING INSANE? Of course it applies! I don't care if you didn't beat him up, you still tied him to a fucking flagpole! And left him there! He's probably scared shitless right now! How the hell could you do that! You know, this whole time, I thought that you were all the guys who saved me from the bullies and harrassment at my old school. But no. You're just the same as everyone else, aren't you? You're all just bullies yourself. You have no fucking senses! If you did, you sure as hell wouldn't have TIED HIM TO A FLAGPOLE!" Blaine was so angry, his face had turned bright red. He punched the nearest wall, and stormed out of the room.
"Wait, Blaine, where are you going? It was just a bit of harmless fun" Nick said, trying to stop him.
"Harmless fun?! Wow, just...wow. And, I'm going to save the man I love, after you all permanantly scarred him!" He took in all of the shocked faces staring back at him. "Yes, that's right, the man I love. I'm in love with Kurt, and I want to be with him. If that means quitting The Warblers because he's too fucking scared to come back after the way you guys treated him, and cutting you all out of my life, then fine! I don't want to be friends with people who would do that somebody! I can't even look at any of you right now" Blaine spat before running out of the practise room, and to his car. He had to get to Kurt. Now.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kurt had begun to accept the fact that he was, indeed, going to die. He had cried until there were no more tears left to shed. He had given up all hope of ever being found. Sure, this was at McKinley, but it was a Friday. Nobody would be at the school for days. His arms were getting tired, as they were tied above him. Just as his head began to droop, due to exhaustion and just plain loss of hope, he heard a car engine. His head snapped back up, and he tried screaming for help, but the tape on his mouth muffled his screams. He didn't dare kick again, in fear of plummeting to the ground. He would just have to hope that the person would find him.
"KURT! KURT!"
Kurt couldn't believe his ears. Blaine!
"I'm going to get you down, okay! You're going to be okay, I promise you!"
He felt like sobbing with relief. He was safe! He felt himself being lowered, and soon, his feet were touching the ground. The tape and blindfold were removed, and he was untied from the flagpole. After being stuck up there for 4 hours, Kurt's legs were wobbly, so when he tried to take a step, he fell into Blaine's arms. He didn't have the energy to move, so he just stayed there, and cried whilst Blaine held him.
"Shh, it's okay, you're okay" Blaine whispered, clinging to Kurt tightly. Relief washed over him. Kurt was okay. He was going to be fine. He felt tears run down his own cheeks.
"Blaine...they...they left me up there...I thought...." Kurt couldn't finish his sentence, he just continued crying on Blaine's chest.
"Come on, I'll carry you to my car" Blaine said, picking Kurt up, and placing him gently in the passenger seat. He got in on the other side, and they drove in silence back to Dalton. Blaine helped Kurt to their dorm room, and soon as they were in, Kurt collapsed on his bed. Blaine sat next to him, and took a deep breath. Now or never.
"Listen, Kurt....I had no idea they were going to do that. I thought that the initiation test was to see how well you did in an impromptu performance...I was never told that they changed it. If I had been told, I would have made sure that it would have never happened. I was so scared I was going to lose you today. One of the reasons I was so scared is because....I love you, Kurt. Not just as a friend...I really, really love you. I think I have ever since you stopped me on that staircase, I've just been too scared to say anything. And...I really want to be with you. I'll quit The Warblers, I'll cut them out of my life, I don't care, I just want to be with you, because you mean the world to me, you really do, and all I want is for you to -"
Kurt cut off Blaine's rambling by pressing a kiss to his lips. His heart was beating fast. Blaine love him too....BLAINE LOVED HIM TOO!
"Blaine, baby, you're rambling" Kurt giggled.
"Baby...why are you..wait..."
"I love you too" Kurt whispered, leaning in to kiss him again.
Blaine could have cried. No way was this real.
"You love me too?"
"I love you too" Kurt smiled.
They laughed, and fell back on Kurt's bed, ecsatic to finally be together. Blaine rubbed their noses together, and pressed a light kiss to Kurt's lips.
"You're perfect" he grinned, causing his boyfriend to blush. His boyfriend! Was Kurt his boyfriend?
"Kurt..."
"Hmm?" Kurt smiled, looking into Blaine's eyes.
"Are we...you know...boyfriends?"
"Of course we are, silly!" Kurt chuckled, pressing a kiss to Blaine's cheek. "Now, it's late, and I'm tired, so we're going to bed"
Blaine smiled happily, wrapping his arms around Kurt, and snuggling into his neck, falling into a deep, content sleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next day, Blaine and Kurt walked to the Warbler practise room hand in hand.
"Kurt! We're so sorry, we had no idea that something so terrible had happened to you..." The Warblers surrounded the couple, showering Kurt with apologies, and begging for forgiveness.
"Look!" Kurt yelled, stopping them. "What you did was still terrible. But...it did bring Blaine and I together. So, I'm willing to give The Warblers a try...if you'll have me, that is. I'm still really pissed at all of you, and honestly, it's going to take me a while to recover from what you did, but I'm hoping we can get past it, never talk of it again, and have a fresh start"
The Warblers thanked Kurt sincerely for his kindness towards them, and they started practise. What they'd done was awful, but Kurt was willing to put it behind him. It had gotten the perfect and most amazing boyfriend out of it. And he had a feeling that the people who had tied him to a flagpole weren't the real them...and he wanted to get to know them for who they really were.

This was really good. I enjoyed seeing Blaine tell off the Warblers and then express his love for Kurt. I look forward to reading your future stories.
Aww, thank you!
kurt and blaine are together, so yay for that! but on the other hand, i absolutely HATE the warblers for what they did. shame on them. kurt shouldn't have forgiven them so easily–he should've made them suffer a little. all-in-all...quite good. cheers!
