Dear Blaine,
I miss you terribly <3 New York is amazing! Rachel as a housemate, however, is a little less amazing! She still keeps reading my mail! Though, I think after your last letter she might stop doing it. Tehe! You made her go beetroot red in the face x) I quite enjoyed it though ;) We really should do some of the stuff that you suggested in there ;)
Blaine, my love, I miss you so much. The nights are very lonely without you next to me, and the sunsets are only half as beautiful if I can’t watch them with you <3. The city is beautiful though and I thoroughly enjoy being here. Right now I’m still looking but I’m not going to give up and I’ll get there eventually.
I’m hoping to save up so I can come visit you at home!
I love you more than anything!
Forever yours, Kurt <3
Blaine put the letter down with a smile. He missed Kurt like hell and it drove him close to insane to be so far apart. The letters he received from Kurt always made him smile, it were those little things that always reassured him. That let him know they were in it for the long run-not that he ever thought otherwise, though. With another last look he glanced around his room, making sure he had everything before closing the door behind him. His bag wasn’t too heavy, but it didn’t need to be. It was only a few days after all. When he came to think of it, he wasn’t expecting to wear much clothing anyway.
**
Kurt ran down the stairs, two steps at a time. The days after he sent Blaine a letter, He always ran downstairs around the same time, knowing it wouldn’t take Blaine long to reply. So when the mailman saw him running down, slightly panting, he chuckled “Sorry Kurt, I’ve only got some bills and something for Rachel.”
Kurt unable to hide his disappointment thanked the mailman, whose name was Frank, and made his way back to the studio. The studio wasn’t big but it was enough for him and Rachel to live in, “Rach, got mail for you.” he threw her the envelope and it flew across the room, softly landing on her lap. She smiled at him “Thanks. Nothing from Blaine?” she asked, seeing his empty hands, after he’d put down the bills on the small kitchen counter.
Kurt shook his head before sitting down on his bed, sulking. He had really hoped Blaine would’ve sent him a letter back. It had been three days since his last one, surely if he had replied straight away he’d gotten it by now. Maybe, Kurt thought, maybe he ran out of stamps. He decided he could wait another few days.
It wasn’t like him and Blaine didn’t text, they did, but the letters were something special, something more personal, more romantic than a text message was. His bedside table was filled with letters of Blaine and on lonely nights he’d take one out to read. “What’s wrong?” he asked Rachel as he saw her frown. She looked up, met his gaze and quickly composed her features. “Nothing, nothing.” Her voice higher than usual.
“Rach, you’re a horrible liar. Who’s the letter from?”
“No one.” she blushed.
“Is it Finn?” Kurt asked, immediately regretting it when he saw her face change.
“No. And if you don’t mind, it’s private, I’d rather not talk about it.” she said, obviously hurt by Kurt’s question. Kurt decided he had pushed his luck too much, lay down on his bed and muttered an apology.
**
Two more days had passed, so when Kurt had walked down to meet Frank again and he had shook his head the moment he’d seen Kurt, he felt like kicking something. So instead he raced upstairs in fury and slammed the door of the little flat closed behind him, he stamped to his closet and grabbed his coat. “uhm, Kurt?”
“What?!” he snarled. Rachel’s eyes grew wide and he noticed she was a little taken aback from his harsh reply, “Sorry Rach, I’m just annoyed.”
“Oh…”, she bit her lip, “it’s just…I was wondering if you would mind-I mean. Well, you know-“
“Rachel, please just spit it out because I’m not in the mood right now.”
she blushed before she started. “Well...some of the girls from NYADA are coming over and we’ll be just in the apartment and stuff but well uhm-it’s just would you mind to stay out until they are gone again?” she spoke so quickly that Kurt really had to concentrate to understand it all.
“You’re kicking me out?”
“Just for a few hours.” She said, defending herself, “I’ll text you when it’s safe again.”
Kurt shrugged, “Fine. I’m going to central park anyway. I need some fresh air.” And without further do, he walked out, not before slamming the door closed behind him again. He was still quite enraged.
*
After a long walk, which had done him good but had not helped his mood, he sighed and sat down on a bench. He knew he shouldn’t be mad at Blaine, it’s not like Blaine was obliged to send him a letter back but he had just- hoped. So he grabbed his phone out of his pocket and texted Blaine. Hey <3 I miss you! xxx
It wasn’t exactly what he wanted to say but he did miss Blaine and he just wished he could have him near him so that they could talk, hug, kiss and be together. He stared at his phone and when it took too long for Blaine to reply, he got even more annoyed. If Blaine didn’t want to talk to him, fine!
He called Rachel, wanting to bite down on his pillow while he cursed the name of Blaine Anderson.
“Kurt?”
“Yeah, it’s me. Rach, is that little get together over yet?! I want to be able to enter my own home again!” he heard noise in the background and wondered what she was doing. Something dawned on him, “Rachel Berry!! If you are having sex on my bed you are soooo going to be in trouble!”
“What?!” she choked, “Kurt, god no! why would I have sex on why would I have sex on your bed! Mine’s just as comfy! But that’s not the point! I’m not and I-er, well I should be another hour.” She said, “will you manage that long?”
“Do I have a choice,” he sighs, shuddering at the thought of Rachel having sex with someone in their flat. It was quite wrong! But he didn’t give it any more thought, feeling his phone buzz in his hands. Kurt I’m sorry! I’ve been terribly busy <3 I miss you so so so much too!! I really can’t wait to see you soon! We’ll corrupt that tiny apartment of yours ;) <3 I love you!!
Kurt smiled a little, seeing Blaine’s text and it rid some of the tightness in his chest.
**
Eventually Kurt felt like he had waited long enough and that if Rachel wanted some adult fun, she would just have to go to whoever she was with’s place. He reached the door and felt slightly out of breath. He still cursed the day they had moved into a building without an elevator. “Rach, I’m home.” He said, throwing the keys on his bed. No reply came. “Rach?” he frowned, their place really wasn’t that big so unless she was hiding in the closet, which he highly doubted, she wasn’t here. His eyes fell on an envelope on his bed. ‘Kurt’ it said.
His heart skipped a beat as he opened it, his hands slightly trembling. He didn’t even know why he was so nervous but he was. And when he recognized the familiar handwriting, he couldn’t suppress a smile.
Dear Kurt,
I’m sorry that I didn’t send you a letter back. I was working on a little something different this time. And with some help from Rachel I think I succeeded pretty well. So yes, here’s my surprise to you. Before I tell you what it is, I just wanted you to know how much I miss you when you’re so far apart from me! it’s horrible and I miss you every second of every day but no distance, no matter how big, can ever make me stop being in love with you. <3
Always yours, Blaine
Ps. Now as for the surprise, please press play on your CD-player!
Kurt smiled like a goon when he re-read the letter and then read it one more time. His Blaine had sent a letter after all. He felt so happy and then his eyes fell on the CD-player and his curiosity got the best of him. He ran the little distance –which was merely two and a half step- to his desk, took in a breath and pressed play.
Guitar chords came from the speakers and then Blaine’s velvety voice started to sing. Kurt gasped in surprise.
“Hey there Kurt Hummel
What’s it like in New York City?
I’m a thousand miles away
But boy, tonight you look so pretty
Yes you do
Times Square can’t shine as bright as you
I swear it’s true
Hey there Kurt Hummel
Don’t you worry about the distance
I’m right there if you get lonely
Give this song another listen
Close your eyes
Listen to my voice, it’s my disguise
I’m by your side
Oh it’s what you do to me
Oh it’s what you do to me
Oh it’s what you do to me
Oh it’s what you do to me
What you do to me
Hey there Kurt Hummel
I know times are getting hard
But just believe me, boy
Someday I’ll pay the bills with this guitar
We’ll have it good
We’ll have the life we knew we would
My word is good
Hey there Kurt Hummel
I’ve got so much left to say
If every simple song I wrote to you
Would take your breath away
I’d write it all
Even more in love with me you’d fall
We’d have it all
Oh it’s what you do to me
Oh it’s what you do to me
Oh it’s what you do to me
Oh it’s what you do to me”
Then Kurt’s ears picked up on more guitar but it didn’t come from the stereo, as he turned to where he thought the sound came from, his hands flew up to his face, covering his mouth as he stared at his boyfriend. Blaine was walking through the open doors of Kurt’s closet, playing guitar, a beaming smile on his face as he sang along with the song, which was still playing. Their eyes locked and didn’t separate the whole time Blaine sang.
“A thousand miles seems pretty far
But they’ve got planes and trains and cars
I’d walk to you if I had no other way
Our friends would all make fun of us
and we’ll just laugh along because we know
That none of them have felt this way
Kurt Hummel I can promise you
That by the time we get through
The world will never ever be the same
And you’re to blame
Hey there Kurt Hummel
You be good and don’t you miss me
One more year and I’ll be done with school
And you’ll be making history like you do
You’ll know it’s all because of you
We can do whatever we want to
Hey there Kurt Hummel here’s to you
This one’s for you
Oh it’s what you do to me
Oh it’s what you do to me
Oh it’s what you do to me
Oh it’s what you do to me
What you do to me.”
When he finished playing, Blaine smiled, “Hey there Kurt Hummel.” He whispered. Kurt couldn’t believe his eyes and ears and everything else either. Blaine was here, standing in front of him. Blaine was in New York! In his room! He couldn’t hold back any longer and he ran straight into Blaine’s arms, their lips locking in a passionate kiss. “I miss you so much.” Kurt mumbled against Blaine’s lips before going back to kissing him. His tongue slipped over Blaine’s lips and it only took a split second for Blaine to give him access, their tongues colliding and massaging. Blaine let his hands slide over Kurt’s arms, over Kurt’s shoulders and then tangled his fingers into Kurt’s hair before softly letting out a moan. He had missed Kurt so badly and he couldn’t wait for the weekend to begin. He had been able to arrange for Rachel to stay with a friend from NYADA and so they would have the place for themselves.
They broke apart from their heated kiss, both panting and Blaine feeling very hot in the cheeks, and smiled at each other. “How…I mean…how?” Kurt managed to say. His sentences not coherent as he was still trying to catch his breath and feeling lost for words.
“Rachel helped me.”
“ooooh.” Kurt smiled, realizing his bed had been saved from sex. Well, he thought, for now.
“Thank god you have such a big closet.” He smiled.
“You’re not actually supposed to be in it anymore.”
“Very clever, my witty boyfriend.” Blaine rolled his eyes before bringing his lips back to Kurt’s, grazing them lightly. Kurt, feeling very distracted, let out a slight growl before he asked “How long are you staying?”
“A weekend. And Rachel will be gone the whole time.” Blaine said, a glint in his eyes and a knowing smile played on his lips.
“Perfect.” Kurt smiled, before going back to kissing the beautiful man he was holding.
“I missed you.”
