Blaine remembered the day clearly. He'd been absolutely overjoyed because finally – finally! – Kurt was back from New York, staying in Lima for the summer; and when Kurt went back to New York, Blaine went with him. But right now, it was his (and Artie and Tina's) graduation party, and most of New Directions – old and new members – had come.
It was wonderful to see everyone again, and Blaine was having the night of his life even before Kurt asked him if they could step outside for a moment. Truthfully, his brain had shut down the moment Kurt knelt down in front of him – that was how surprised (though in a good way) he was. Some parts, he remembered, like when Kurt had mentioned Blaine's promise in the McKinley hallways, almost a year and a half earlier, and when Kurt had admitted to not having spoken to Blaine's parents – who were essentially okay with their relationship, but weren't entirely comfortable with it – but to Blaine's brother about his proposal. He also clearly remembered the moment he'd realised they weren't exactly alone in his parents' backyard. Kurt was quick to reassure him that he wasn't planning on getting married anytime soon and that they first should get through college, he just felt that this was the right time to ask Blaine. When he'd mentioned Finn and Rachel's wedding the year before, an indignant squeak could be heard.
Other parts he couldn't remember hearing, too lost in the thoughts roaming through his head and in Kurt's eyes. He'd felt bad about this – it was a once in a lifetime happening, and he should've remembered every word Kurt said.
Nowadays, Blaine had trouble believing that it had been almost four years since the proposal had taken place. He himself was busy graduating college, and Kurt was doing his best to make a name for himself, while also planning their (now imminent) wedding and spending time with Blaine, even if this time only consisted of cuddling on the couch while both of them were also doing other things. They still loved each other, still wanted to get married, so that was exactly what they were going to do.
As Blaine watched Kurt fuss over the invitations, he was reminded of that moment, years ago, when all their friends had started cheering from behind their hiding spots. Puck had held up a phone, obviously having taped the entire thing, and when Kurt had interrogated him about it, Finn had told him that their parents would surely want to see it.
Blaine loved watching that recording, and he did so at least once a week. By now, he could recite Kurt's speech by heart. It had been dark outside when Kurt popped the question, so while the sound was exquisite, the visual part wasn't very high quality. That didn't really matter to Blaine, though.
"What are you thinking about?" Kurt suddenly asked, sounding curious, and just staring at Blaine from across the table.
Blaine grinned widely. "Just about how much I love you," he responded. Glancing down at the invitations, he added, "But come on, let's go to bed. We'll worry about those invitations tomorrow after my test, okay?"
Kurt rolled his eyes, but complied. While he went through his moisturising routine, Blaine took out his laptop. He simply had to watch the video again. He mouthed along with Kurt's speech, but stayed still when video-Blaine spoke.
"Kurt… of course I want to marry you."
And he still did, more than ever before.
