"God, I miss you." Kurt whimpered, sounding pitiful, as he stared at his boyfriend on his computer screen. Sure, he was grateful for skype, it made things a bit easier. But six and a half months of nothing but skype wasn't cutting it. This being in love with a Marine stuff was for the birds. He hated it. But he tried not to let on exactly how much because he didn't want to waste their small amount of time together whining about how much time they don't get together.
"I know, babe. I miss you, too. But I'll be there soon, promise." Blaine's forehead wrinkled.
Kurt nodded. "I know, I know, I just wish you could be here for Christmas, a-and New Years." His breath quivered as he wiped under his eyes.
"Oh, babe, please don't cry." Blaine felt his own tears welling up. "Please. Come on, I only have a few minutes, tell me happy things. His are Rachel and Finn? Carole and Burt?"
"Everyone is fine. Rachel and Finn are officially getting married in May. She finally set the date. Anyway, they actually asked me to go with them tonight, they're testing cake. But I couldn't miss my Blaine time." Kurt tried to sound happier but he wasn't fooling Blaine. Kurt's smile slowly faded as he and Blaine gazed at each other.
"Hey," Blaine's voice was low. He touched the screen with his hand."I love you, Kurt. I promise I will come home to you."
Tear started to flow down Kurt's face as he placed his hand on Blaine's. "You better. I still hate you for going, you know."
Blaine chuckled, wiping the tears from his own eyes. "I know, babe."
Blaine looked away from the screen for a minute, and nodded. He looked back to Kurt. "I've got to go. I love you. With all of my heart."
Kurt nodded, sighing. "I love you, too, Blaine." he whimpered. "Please come home to me."
"I will, I promise."
Blaine leaned into the camera, and Kurt did as well. They kissed through skype once more and then the screen went black.
After staring at the black screen for a moment, Kurt broke down again, like he had many nights before. He crawled into their bed an cuddled Blaine's pillow. It smelled like him because Kurt would spray his cologne on it every now and then. Kurt finally cried himself to sleep like he has done almost every night since Blaine left.
.........
"Love you guys!" Kurt hollered before walking out of his Dad's house, it was Christmas Eve and he had spent all day with his family, like he did every year. They made Christmas cookies, watched Christmas movies, and the last couple of years Blaine would play the piano and they'd sing Christmas carols. But of course, not this year. Kurt checked the time once he was in his car. He was expecting a call from Blaine tonight. He couldn't hardly wait. It had been three weeks since their skype date. He was so ready to hear his boyfriend's voice. He thought he'd be okay this Christmas, and occupy himself with his family, but he was so distracted tonight. He couldn't stop thinking of Blaine, this was their first Christmas apart since they've been together.
He hurried home because he did bit want to be in the car, driving and trying to talk to Blaine.
Once he pulled up to the apartment building, he got out and locked the door, rushing up the stairs and into their apartment. He had about five minutes before the time Blaine said he'd call in his last letter.
Kurt locked the door behind him and kicked his shoes off in the entry way, but he noticed something different sitting next to where he always kicked off his shoes, a pair of familiar shoes. His heart stopped. His breath caught in his throat and tears hit his eyes. "Oh my god." He breathed. "Blaine?" He rushed into the living room and standing there in front of the lit Christmas tree was the love of his life. Standing there in red pants, a white shirt and green bow tie, his hair was gelled back in that certain Blaine way. He had a big smile on his face.
"Hi baby." Blaine whispered, tears in his eyes.
"Oh my god, Blaine!" Kurt rushed to him, tears flowing down his face. He threw his arm around Blaine's neck as Blaine slipped his arms around Kurt's waist. They stood there like that for a long moment, holding onto each other for dear life, crying, before Blaine lifted his head, causing Kurt to do the same, and he placed a hungry kiss on Kurt's lips. Kurt didn't waste a second, responding immediately. Their lips moved together in sync, savoring every second of this moment. Blaine bit Kurt's bottom lip and Kurt's heart fluttered.
They let their kiss slow a bit before breaking apart. Both breathless.
"I can't believe you're really here." Kurt whispered, leaning his forehead against Blaine's.
"I told you I'd come home to you." Blaine planted a soft kiss Kurt's lips.
"I know, but I just worry about you."
"Kurt, I promise I will always come home to you." His hazel eyes gazed into the blue ones in front of him.
They were still holding onto each other as if their lives depended in it.
"I could not be happier than I am right now." Kurt's eyes fluttered as his lips found their way to Blaine's once more.
"Oh, really?" Blaine raised an eye brow and chuckled, stepping away from Kurt, finally. He reached into his pocket. "You know, the past five years have been the best years or my life. And that's because of you."
Kurt watched him carefully, curious.
"And," His hand came out of his pocket closed, holding something. "The past few months of being away from you had confirmed that I never want to be without you." Blaine's voice was low, velvety. "I couldn't live without knowing that I have you to come home to. I want to spend forever with you, I want to have kids with you, i want to grow old together, watch our children grow, watch our grandchildren grow. You're the most amazing, beautiful person in existence."
Kurt's eyes filled with tears again, his heart racing, as he watched his boyfriend kneel on one knee in front of him.
"And I'm still not sure why you picked me. You're so too good for me. But I want to hold onto as long as you'll have me. So, I suppose what I'm trying to say is, Kurt Hummel, would you do me the honor and marry me? Because I'd really like to be your husband." He reveled the white gold band ring he was holding. It had two small lines of diamonds crisscrossing around the entire thing. It had the right amount of sparkle, it was quite beautiful.
Kurt's smile couldn't have been any bigger, he was sure he looked like an idiot but he didn't care. He bounced slightly before kneeling down to be eye level with Blaine. "You want to marry me?" He asked in disbelief. His words were wrapped in a happy whine.
"More than anything in the entire world." Blaine shook his head slowly, whispering.
Kurt leaned in, pressing his lips against Blaine's fiercely. "Oh my god."
"So? Yes?" Blaine's eyebrows raised, he smiled a cheesy smile.
"Absolutely. Yes, yes, yes, a million times yes!"
Blaine chuckled, taking Kurt's hand and slipping the ring on his finger. "You sir, have just made me the happiest person that has ever existed." He sighed happily. "I love you, baby." He gave Kurt a soft, lingering, kiss.
"I love you, too, Blaine. More than anything. And this ring, it's beautiful."
"You're beautiful." Blaine replied.
They rested their foreheads on each other's, both floating on cloud nine.
They both finally stood, and went to sit on the couch. They snuggled as close as they could possibly get, holding each other tight.
"Merry Christmas, Kurt."
"Merry Christmas, Blaine."
They shared a long, soft kiss. Kurt could not have been happier. He was with the love of his life, it was Christmas, and they were going to get married. Married.
Kurt couldn't even, and didn't even want to, think about how long Blaine would be here for, or how long he'd be gone next time. Nothing else mattered at this moment. All that mattered was that they were together.
And this was the best Christmas ever.
