"No." Kurt looked down at his six year old daughter with a serious expression, and when she didn't put the book back on the shelf, he raised an eyebrow. Rosie had grown to learn that 'The Eyebrow' meant that her daddy was not joking around with her. That she was being naughty and should do what he said. She looked down at the book in her hands with a sorrowful expression for one more second before reaching over to put it back.
"What's this?" Blaine appeared around the corner of the shelves, carrying a carton of orange juice and setting it in the shopping cart. He smiled at his husband's 'no-nonsense' face until it melted away and the tall, stunning man who was all his leant over the cart and pecked him on the cheek.
"Rosie wanted a book, but its way too advanced for her to be able to read." Blaine peered at the book Kurt was pointing at, and noted that it had a pink unicorn on the cover. Surely it wasn't too old for her... and weren't they meant to challenge her, anyway?
"Please, daddy?" Rosie asked, elongating the vowels and giving him her best smile. The smile that she knew always got her what she wanted because Blaine had turned out to be a real pushover when it came to his daughter.
"No, Rosie," Kurt intervened, giving Blaine a sideways look. He knew his husband would cave without Kurt there to control the situation. "You don't need it."
"Kurt..." Blaine implored, heartstrings pulling painfully at the sad expression Rosie was sporting. "It could help her learn. Let her have it." He moved towards the shelf to pick the book up, but Kurt slapped his hand away.
"No! If you want her to have that, then you need to put one of your bowties back." Kurt folded his arms, sure that he'd won. Blaine gave the bowties in the cart an anguished look and Rosie's beautiful blue eyes widened, because his bowties were a big deal. She was never allowed to touch them; because of that one time she got paint on one and ruined it. He was sad until daddy bought him a new one and they cuddled. He loved his bowties like she loved her unicorns.
"But Kurt..." Blaine whined, picking the book up slowly, like he was sure Kurt would stop him, and putting it in the cart, shifting various items around.
"No, no," Kurt said, eyeing his actions. "Don't try to hide them. I know exactly which ones you have and how many there are." Blaine's arms slackened and he put the lettuce down. He hung his head and just stared at the shopping, and that was the moment Kurt gave in. If he denied Rosie her book and Blaine his bowties, he'd have two crying children on his hands and they would be upset until he gave them something else they wanted. For Blaine, that wasn't so hard... in fact it would be very, very easy... but Rosie was so set on her unicorns and anyway, she already knew that she had Blaine on her side.
"Oh, alright." Kurt said, shaking his head at the way both of their faces lit up in exactly the same mischievous way. "You're monsters, both of you," he started walking away, dragging the shopping cart with him. "I haven't a clue why I put up with either of you."
"I know why." Rosie and Blaine said at the same time, only Rosie declared it with a sort of regal, confident air and Blaine growled it low with that smile. Kurt smirked at him and winked while Rosie wasn't looking, then doubled back so he could link their hands together.
"Oh really?" He asked Rosie, slowly leading them down the aisle towards the checkout.
"Yep!" She said, and jumped a little on the spot. "Because you love us and we love you!" She sang it and bounced in a circle, clearly delighted by the whole situation. Both her fathers chuckled.
"We do."
