"Are you sure you don't want a new born..Older ones can be a bit..Tempermental. You know on account of him being moved around so much." She moved a piece of brown hair off of her face.
Blaine and Kurt both exchanged annoyed glances with each other before looking back at the adoption agent.
"I think we'll be fine.." Blaine finally spoke, an annoyed tone taking over his voice.
The agent opened her mouth as if she was going to say something to them.
"Will you please just go get him..We're ready to take him home.." Kurt rolled his eyes. When she left the room he looked over at Blaine and they both began to smile.
Ever since they'd first met Ben, they knew he was the little boy they wanted. They'd both agreed that they wanted a boy. At least for now. The thought of having other kids and maybe a little girl wasn't completely out of the picture, but it wasn't exactly an option when they were just then getting their first child.
The first time Blaine saw Ben he was in the corner of the room rather than in the middle playing with the rest of the babies his age. The adoption agency had told them that he had been to a few foster homes, but was always sent back without even being considered for adoption. The parents who had fostered him always said they weren't interested in a baby that was less than a few years old, and older than a newborn. Blaine knew Ben was the one for them.
Sure both of them would have been okay with getting a newborn baby, or even an eleven year old for all they cared. But Ben stood out.
Blaine first noticed his bright eyes, that were identical to Kurt's other than the color. They were always flashing, whether or not he was smiling. His dark blonde, light brown hair was always kept up with at the agency and the ends of it flipped out as if someone had styled it that way.
The agent, Julie, brought him in the room. He was kicking her forefully and screaming. His small fists balled up and his face turning a bright red color from the screaming. She huffed and quickly passed him off to Kurt.
"Hey bud..Why are you crying? You should be happy.." He slowly bounced Ben in his arms while his sobs turning into quiet sniffles and hiccups. "You get to go home today.."
Blaine looked at Kurt who was holding Ben and smiled. "Let's get him home.."
The ride home went rather quickly, Blaine sitting in the backseat of the car talking to the babbling nine month old who was positively extatic to be in a car as far as his face showed.
Blaine smiled at the way his eyes lit up when they were pulling out of the parking lot.
Ben began to mumble incoherent words with a giant grin on his face.
"Is that right?" Blaine smiled at him.
Ben seemingly nodded and continued to babble. Kurt looked into the rearview mirror smiling at the two of them.
When they got home, Blaine put Ben down on the floor as if to see if he wanted to explore the house. He sat in the middle of the living room carpet for almost two minutes looking around at the enviroment before breaking down into sobs. Both Kurt and Blaine rushed over to him, Kurt picking him up.
"What's the matter baby?" He asked softly.
Ben's sobs continued, but without screams, only worried looking facial expressions, and tears. Kurt carried him back to the room where they'd intended on making his permanent bedroom starting the first night he was home.
"See, this is all yours.." He turned in a small circle as if to let him examine the room. His tears slowly subsided and he relaxed in Kurt's arms. Kurt led him around the room showing him toys and things that people in both Kurt and Blaine's families had bought for him when they were sure that they would be officially his legal parents.
"See, Aunt Rachel and Uncle Finn got you this little duck.." He held up a stuffed duck.
Ben stared at it suspiciously before reaching out and grabbing it. He held it close to his chest. Kurt smiled.
He walked over to the diaper changing table and opened a drawer to reveal a fairly big selection of pacifiers. He took a bright green one out and held it infront of Ben.
"Do you use one of these?" Kurt asked softly. Ben hadn't been sent home with one, but that didn't completely mean that he never had one at all. Blaine had insisted on buying anything and everything for him when they found out they were going to be taking him home, and pacifiers were no exception.
He gently reached out and grabbed the pacifier from Kurt and slowly put it in his mouth. He leaned his head slightly towards Kurt's chest and the hiccups from when he was crying were slowly subsiding. Kurt walked around the house with him while showing him pictures of people.
"This is your Aunt Tina, and Uncle Mike.." He stopped infront of s picture frame, softly speaking to Ben and pointing to the people in the picture "They have Keaton, and he's just a little bit older than you..I think you guys will be best friends.."
Kurt was getting to more pictures of his family when Ben's eyelids began to adorably droop. He kept talking to him until he was positive he was asleep. He walked him back to his bedroom and as quietly and gently as he could layed him down in the crib.
Blaine walked in the room behind him and stared down into the crib.
"He's ours.." He wrapped his arms around Kurt's waist, smiling.
Kurt turned around. "I love you so much.."
"I love you too.." Blaine smiled and leaned in to kiss Kurt.
