Should've kissed you there
I should've held your face
I should've watched those eyes
Instead of run in place
It was supposed to be their time together, it was supposed to be a walk in Central Park. Blaine wasn't really sure when it had turned into tearful walks back to the apartment, and being unable to make eye contact.
I should've called you out
I should've said your name
I should've turned around
I should've looked again
The moon felt like it shined brighter than the sun, it was making Blaine's head pound. He was sure it wasn't the moon, or the street lights that were making his head ache. It was the words that Kurt had said to him just a few minutes earlier.
"I don't know if I want this."
"Blaine stop, this is over."
The tears re-entered his eyes after replaying the words. He wanted to dissapear. How was he just supposed to stay? How was he supposed to leave? How was he supposed to leave New York, to go back to the school, that he transferred to for the boy who just dumped him in the middle of Central Park?
But oh, I'm staring at the mess I made
I 'm staring at the mess I made
Kurt looked over to see Blaine, his eyes trailed on the ground, the same look on his face he'd had when he thought Kurt was cheating on him. He didn't want to see him that way. Who would? He could hardly glance at him without bursting into tears again. It wasn't like he'd done this just to hurt him.
I 'm staring at the mess I made
As you turn, you take your heart and walk away
Blaine turned to look at Kurt, barely making it a second longer without crying again.
"Kurt, please can we just try-"
"Blaine stop." his voice was quiet and on the verge of a sob.
"Kurt I wanna do this just please-" Blaine's voice was pleading.
"Just stop." Kurt stopped walking before turning and walking away quickly, the walking quickly turning to running.
Should've held my ground
I could've been redeemed
For every second chance
That changed its mind on me
Blaine turned, walking the other way, there was no way of catching him now. And at this point, why should he? He was leaving, there was nothing else to do. Kurt didn't want to be with him anymore, there was no reason to stay.
Even though he knew it was what he needed to do, he wished there was something he could do, anything that would make Kurt turn around. Turn around and make him run back and kiss Blaine, do anything to take him back.
I should've spoken up
I should've proudly claimed
That oh my head's to blame
For all my heart's mistakes
Kurt walked back to his apartment, shamefully wipping the tears off of his face, they didn't seem to stop coming. At this point there was nothing he could do to stop them. Nothing was going to make him feel better. The only thing that would make him feel better is Blaine. The feeling of Blaine's arms around his. But that was clearly not going to happen. He practically kicked himself. He couldn't understand how it already felt like he'd made a mistake.
And it's falling down, as you walk away
And it's on me now, as you go
Blaine stopped. He couldn't turn around. He couldn't stand the thought of turning around and seeing Kurt again. What if he was standing, waiting for him to turn around? He felt like the rest of the city went silent, the ringing in his ears was all he could hear. but it didn't matter because there wasn't anymore to hear, he'd already heard things he'd hoped he'd never have to anyway.
But oh, I'm staring at the mess I made
I 'm staring at the mess I made
I 'm staring at the mess I made
As you turn, you take your heart and walk away
Kurt stood hoping Blaine would turn back around. Beg him again. Maybe this time he wouldn't be so stupid, maybe he would take Blaine back. Maybe Blaine would run to him and Kurt could hold him and that would be the end of it. This night would be long forgotten in other good memories, as if it hadn't happened at all.
Blaine started to turn his head. Kurt's heart stopped in his chest. He turned the other way, running in the direction he'd walked off in. Both of their hearts breaking in two.
