“Man you ok?” Sam asked Blaine one morning. It had been a little over a week since he came back from that fateful trip to New York. No one but Finn really knew what happened that night, and he was keeping to himself after his break up with Rachel.
But Sam noticed something was wrong. Something had happened, something more than a bad fight with Kurt. Yes, Blaine flinched anytime Kurt’s name was mentioned before brushing it off. He never touched his phone any more, he always seemed tired, exhausted even. His grades were slipping, his concentration was gone. He shied away from everyone. Ususally one for hugs and shoulder pats, he was jumpy as if he was terrified to be touched.
“Yeah...just tired” Blaine mumbled quietly pulling some books out of his locker.
“That’s what you said yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that...” Sam said, “Man, I know we’re not like best buds or anything, but you can talk to me” he said softly putting his hand on Blaine’s shoulder.
“Don’t-” Blaine started jumping at the contact, “Don’t touch me”
“Dude, it’s ok. Just calm down” Sam began but seeing the anguish in Blaine’s eyes, and the tears beginning to form he knew he had to do something, “Come on, let’s get out of here” he said slamming Blaine’s locker shut and gently leading him down the hall away from prying eyes.
Blaine blindly followed, unable to hold it together anymore. He screwed up miserably and got what he thought he deserved. He lost everything due to one stupid mistake. One stupid, hypocritical mistake.
“Sam, Blaine. I thought you heard, Glee is cancel-” Mr. Schue began, “Blaine what happened?” he said rushing over to them.
“I don’t know Mr. Schue...something’s wrong” Sam said worriedly, “He hasn’t been himself lately, and...well I dunno” Sam began, getting uncomfortable.
“Thanks Sam, you’re a good friend. I’ll take it from here, go home” Mr. Schue said softly.
Sam nodded and headed out of the choir room, closing the door behind him. Once the door closed Mr. Schue turned to Blaine who was sitting with his head in his hands trying to calm himself down.
“Blaine?” Mr. Schue began, but Blaine just couldn’t hold it in anymore.
“I screwed up Mr. Schue...I really messed up” he said softly, not moving his head. He had to tell someone. He couldn’t talk to his parents or Cooper, it was too embarrassing.
“What happened Blaine?” Mr. Schue said dragging a chair over to sit in front of the broken boy.
“I...I...I didn’t mean to. It wasn’t supposed to happen” he choked out, tears clouding his vision.
“You’ve got to start at the beginning” Mr.s Schue said softly, touching Blaine’s knee making the boy jump, “It’s alright Blaine, I’m not going to hurt you”
“Sorry...” Blaine mumbled.
“Did someone hurt you Blaine?” Mr. Schue whispered. He knew what had happened to Blaine before Dalton. As a teacher, he had seen Blaine’s records.
Blaine nodded, “It wasn’t supposed to happen...and now I hurt Kurt. I lost Kurt now” he whispered.
“What wasn’t supposed to happen?” Mr. Schue said hoping it wasn’t what he thought it was. He had heard the mumblings through the club that something had happened between Blaine and Kurt, and Finn had said something about Blaine cheating on Kurt. He didn’t think Blaine was the type of boy to cheat, but he was only teenager going through a long distance relationship. Anything could happen, and the way Blaine was acting and how is imagination was going, Mr. Schue actually was hoping Blaine simply cheated.
“I...I...went to his house” Blaine began, “I was lonely, but I just wanted to hang out. Watch a movie maybe” he said taking deep breaths to calm himself, “Spend time with someone who didn’t remind me of how much I missed Kurt” he explained, knowing Mr. Schue would wonder why he didn’t just spend time with the other Glee kids. Mr. Schue nodded in understanding and urged him to continue.
“I told him I had Kurt, and that I was happy with Kurt...” Blaine began as tears began to roll down his face again.
“Blaine, did this guy...” Mr. Schue began.
Blaine just nodded, “I tried to stop him...” Blaine began to sob, “I tried Mr. Schue, I tried so hard” he cried.
Mr. Shue pulled the young man into his arms tightly, against the fight until Blaine couldnt’ fight any more and clung to his mentor and cried, “It’s alright Blaine, everything’s going to be alright” he whispered.
“No...no it’s not. I lost Kurt now” Blaine cried, “I told him I was with someone...I told him I cheated on him”
“Why did you tell him that? You didn’t cheat on him”
“Yes I did” Blaine nodded, “I’m not someone he can be proud of now...it’s better this way”
“Blaine, no it’s not. It’s not your fault, you did nothing wrong”
“I went to his house! I went to him, I was lonely...”
“You went to spend time with someone you thought was a friend. You didn’t go with the intention of cheating on Kurt. Kurt would understand, you said so yourself. He’s the most understanding boy you know...we know. He would want to know Blaine, to help you”
Blaine shook his head fervently, “No he wouldn’t...” he said softly, “I’m broken”
“You’re not broken” a voice came softly from the doorway making Mr. Schuester and Blaine look up, “And even if you were, I’d help put the pieces back together”
“Kurt...” Blaine whispered before tearing up.
“I’ll leave you two alone” Mr. Schuster said softly before heading to the door, clapping Kurt on the shoulder, “Make sure he gets home” he whispered to Kurt, who nodded before crossing the room to kneel in front of Blaine.
“Kurt...I’m so sorry” he cried, tears streaming down his face, unable to even look at Kurt.
“Sweetie, look at me” Kurt said softly pulling Blaine’s chin up to meet his eyes, “You have nothing to be sorry about. It wasn’t your fault. You were lonely and vunerable. That’s my fault. I wasn’t being a good boyfriend, I let you down” he said softly, “I’m so sorry that I put you in that state. In a state that some horrible person could take advantage of you like that” he said, tears beginning to fall from his own eyes.
“But-” Blaine began.
“No Blaine. It’s not your fault, please don’t think its your fault. I’m so sorry that I treated you like that. That I let my job get ahead of you” Kurt said taking Blaine’s hands in his, “Please let me be yours again” he whispered, “Please. I love you Blaine”
“You do?” Blaine asked softly.
Kurt’s heart ached at the sound of Blaine’s broken voice. Blaine was always so strong and confident, and because of Kurt’s neglect, “Of course I do. I love you. Always have and always will” he whispered wiping the tears from Blaine’s cheeks with the pad of his thumb, “No matter what” he added with a smile, before standing up and holding his hand out for Blaine.
Blaine looked at it for a moment, hesitating before looking up at Kurt. He saw the smile and the love in his eyes, but he couldn’t, “I’m not the same person Kurt” he began quietly, “I’m broken”
“I’ll have you know I’m great at putting things back together...” he said softly, “Plus, someone once told me I was their missing puzzle piece”
Blaine looked up again, but he didn’t hesitate this time. He took Kurt’s hand and stood allowing Kurt to envelop him in a tight hug, “Thank you” he whispered into Kurt’s neck.
“We’ll get through this together” Kurt said softly pulling back so he could look at Blaine, “Always together ok?” he asked.
Blaine nodded, “Together” he whispered, “I love you”
“I love you too, so, so much Blaine Anderson” Kurt said leaning forward to kiss him. It was a chaste, sweet kiss. But it was the perfect kiss for Blaine. It made him remember the love that he and Kurt had, and wiped out the memory of that horrible, forceful kiss from Eli weeks ago, “No matter what, I will always love you” Kurt said pulling back from the kiss, “Come on, let’s go home”
Blaine smiled for the first time in days. He tucked his head on Kurt’s shoulder as Kurt wrapped his arm around Blaine’s waist. They both knew it wouldn’t be easy. It would take some time to get back what they had. Even more time for Blaine to get back to himself. To trust people again, for the nightmares to end. But they both knew it would work out in the end. Because in the end, they had one another once again, and nothing could ever break that.
