Blaine looked around, fascinated, his eyes taking everything in, a wide grin across his face. He looked over at Kurt who was posing for the cameras. He looked beautiful. His hair was swept up, flawlessly styled, his skin was glowing and his gorgeous glasz eyes were sparkling with happiness. In all, he looked breath-taking. The older man was gesturing as he spoke to the interviewer, grinning with happiness as he spoke, his voice high and quick. Blaine looked down at the red carpet beneath his feet and the banners everywhere proclaiming ‘Emmys’. The lights flashed in his eyes, blinding him slightly. He’d flinched the first few times and oh he was going to get a ribbing from Kurt’s co-stars tomorrow for those but he’d soon relaxed and smiled brightly when the cameras turned on him.
Kurt almost immediately got pulled into interviews and Blaine was left to stand awkwardly to the side, to be gestured at and smile at the interviewer politely before going back to staring around in fascination.
“Hands out of pockets, kid.” Burt’s deep voice spoke in his ear and he quickly took them out, shaking his sweaty hands out self-consciously.
He blushed at Burt slightly and whispered back. “Sorry.”
Burt laughed quietly and patted him on the back. “It’s ok, kid. You’re allowed to be nervous, hell I know I am.” He chuckled and Blaine flashed a grin at him, calm flooding through him. If Burt was nervous, it was okay for him to be.
Blaine looked back over at Kurt, hazel eyes sweeping over his boyfriend who was gesturing at him and waving him over as he started to step back to have more pictures taken. As he walked over he saw some of Kurt’s co-stars and waved back at them as they waved.
Kurt smiled as Blaine walked over. He looked incredible, as always. His hair was lightly styled, curly but tamed, his suit fitted his gorgeous body like a glove and suited him well and his hazel eyes were shining with excitement, soaking everything up. Their fingers tangled together and Blaine slotted up beside him, smiling at the cameras as they flashed for them.
Kurt smiled at Blaine and whispered in his ear as the cameras captured the moment, taking it for a sweet kiss to the neck. “One day this will all be yours.”
Blaine grins back at him for a second then his eyes soften and he whispers back. “Yeah but right now it’s all yours, Kurt. I’m so proud of you. I guess everything worked out for the best.”
Kurt looks at him and his mouth drops for a second before he composes himself, professional in front of the cameras. He knew Blaine’s trust had healed a long time ago but this was the first time he’d shown true forgiveness over what had happened. Blaine was saying that him running away in the end had made all this happen, and that was ok. His arm slipped around Blaine’s waist and they smiled brighter for the cameras as they walked, interviewers and photographers shouting Kurt’s name.
Kurt heard the familiar voice of the E! Presenter talking about the stars walking past and heard her say his name. He looked over and smiled as she waved him over. He squeezed Blaine’s hand and walked over, letting his love’s hand slip from his as the younger man hung back slightly. Kurt smiled warmly at her. E! had been good to him. He’d gained a rapport with the various presenters and had been on E! News a few times, interviewed many times and they’d handled the fallout from the Enquirer interview and the scandal it could have been. It’d been dealt with as a sympathetic piece by E! and treated like a story of true love and the trials of teenage life.
“And here comes Kurt Hummel, star of That’s Show and nominated for lead actor in a comedy series tonight. Hi Kurt!”
Kurt smiled and looked at the camera, then the woman. “Hi Lisa, how are you?”
“I’m great thank you, how about you? You must be so happy right now.” Lisa asked, her bubbly personality showing through as she grinned and gripped his forearm lightly.
Kurt laughed and replied. “I’m enjoying myself, I’m nervous about the ceremony, actually but it’ll be great, whatever happens.”
She grinned back as Kurt grinned nervously and rubbed his hands. “That’s great, Kurt, so who are you wearing today?”
Kurt looked down at himself, he’d teased his dad and Blaine about wearing the kilt from his junior prom that he’d dug out of his closet to the ceremony but had gone with a McQueen suit. “I’m wearing McQueen.”
“You look great too,” Lisa gushed and looked over at Blaine who was watching Kurt with a slightly awe-struck look, shuffling his feet and looking like he was trying not to put his hands in his pockets. “And who is this handsome young man you’ve brought with you? Hi.” She shook Blaine’s hand as he stepped forward, a charming smile sliding onto his face.
“This is Blaine, my partner.” Kurt replied, grinning first as Blaine then Lisa and the camera as he slipped his hand into Blaine’s again.
Lisa smiled back and looked Blaine up and down as the camera did. “Who are you wearing Blaine?”
Blaine blinked and glanced at Kurt, his mind suddenly a blank as attention was focused on him. “Uh, I’m wearing Armani. I can’t pull off McQueen as well as Kurt.” He said, recovering quickly and trying to be as charming as possible.
Kurt gripped his hand tighter and grinned, rolling his eyes. “He’s kidding.”
Lisa laughed and looked at Blaine again and asked. “Blaine, you must be so proud of Kurt, nominated best lead actor in a comedy series. How did you react when you first heard?”
“Yeah I’m really, really proud of Kurt. We’ve talked about this since high school and we all knew he’d become a star and change lives so it feels like he’s finally getting what he deserves. Um I think there was a lot of screaming and jumping around when we heard about the nomination.” Blaine smiled at Lisa and gave Kurt a loving look, blushing at the one he received back.
Kurt’s smile slipped into a playful ‘bitch please’ look and he deadpanned. “That was you sweetie.”
They all laughed and they said their goodbyes as Kurt and Blaine walked into the Nokia Theatre, joining Burt, Carole, Finn, Cooper and Kurt’s cast mates. Kurt posed for a couple more photos then they sat down, ready for the show to begin.
Finally it got to Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and Kurt started shaking, his hand gripping Blaine’s tightly. Cast mates leaned over and patted his arm and a few people around gave Kurt thumbs up and grins. Burt patted his back and Cooper tried to ruffle his hair until he retracted his hand with a harsh headshake from Finn and a glare from both Kurt and Blaine.
“I love you so much.” Blaine whispered into Kurt’s ear, feeling his love trembling.
Kurt glanced at him, smiling nervously. “I love you too.”
“The Lead Actor in a Comedy Series is.” The actress speaking the nominees started and then looked to her co presenter for him to carry on.
The co-presenter ripped open the envelope, leaned into the mic and read the name loudly. “Kurt Hummel, That’s Show!”
Kurt’s mouth dropped open and he froze in shock as he heard his name but the screams and applause snapped him out of his surprise and he kissed Blaine, hugged his dad and waded through, hugging Finn, Cooper, various cast mates and kissing Carole on the cheek on the way.
Kurt got to the stage and shook the presenters hands, grinning happily then turned to the mic. He stared at the award for a second then looked out at the audience of his peers and loved ones and spoke, his voice clear and unwavering. “In high school I told everyone I deserved all of this. I believed I’d be a huge star and do all these things because I deserved it. I sang I Am The Greatest Star,” He chuckled and flushed as everyone laughed. Blaine was watching him, tears in his wide golden eyes. “I wanted it and deserved it but I see the people I’ve touched by the things I’ve done through That’s Show and my film, which will be out soon, and none of my high school ego matters. I stand here today, with this award in my hands, because of all of you. My friends, my co-stars, my family, my fans. All of you made me this, made me dream and work harder to succeed for all of the people who told me I changed their lives, how my co-stars changed their lives. My family who stood by me and pushed me on through everything, who loved me without question. I love you all. This is yours as much as mine. I thank you all but especially my family. My dad who taught me that I am perfect as me, my mother who guides me from Heaven, my step-mom who is the most incredible, open-hearted woman I’ve ever met. My step-brother who was the voice of reason when I had none and Blaine. I couldn’t have done any of this without you. You saved my life and we’ve been through so much together, thank you for supporting me. I love you so much. Thank you.”
The rest of the night was a blur of cheering, hugs, excited calls to friends, pictures of Kurt, Blaine and most of those around them wielding the award and flowing champagne.
They made it to the after party and slumped into a booth, the six of them were joined by Mercedes and Sam and they recounted the night’s events, Kurt’s speech and the fun they’d had during the ceremony.
Blaine pulled Kurt onto the dance floor after a while and Kurt left his award with his dad, letting his fiancé drag him onto the floor. They danced around for a while, jumping, shimmying and falling into each other giggling until the latest song by Flo Rida flowed into a slow song. Their eyes locked and their arms wrapped around each other, their bodies swaying together to the slow song.
Blaine kissed Kurt’s neck and whispered. “I’m so proud of you Kurt, you’re so amazing.”
Kurt smiled, his mind going back to that night once again, them standing on a stage after their show having not spoken for a day, whispered words of love and apology flowing before their lives changed forever as they became each other’s body and soul. “I’ve always wanted you to be, Blaine. I love you so much.”
Burt watched his boys dancing, their bodies swaying, fitting together with the well-practised ease of years of dancing together and loving each other. They were kissing deeply, in their own little world on the dance floor and he knew he should look away but he couldn’t tears his eyes off them. They looked so grownup, eons away from those boys who fell through the front door giggling after prom, Kurt with a crown on and Blaine with a sceptre stuffed in his back pocket. They looked like conquering heroes, the prince and his prince. They’d come through everything that had happened to them to this, Blaine finishing college and already getting offers from record companies and Kurt, his pride and joy telling the world it was ok to be different, to be afraid and to love.
“You know, back in high school when Kurt told me about Blaine, the first time they met. He made him out to be this knight, sweeping into his life and saving him from Karofsky, from all the stupidity, from loneliness but I think Kurt saved Blaine from much more. I’ve heard Blaine talk about his past, about his parents and his life before Dalton, even at Dalton; he was so lonely, trying to fit into a place that forced him to be something else and be what his parents wanted. Best thing that boy did was stop on that stairwell when Kurt went to spy on them” Mercedes said, sliding into the booth next to Burt, never taking her eyes off her two friends as she said her little speech.
Burt chuckled, remembering the conversations he and Blaine had had that first time he met the young man, over the time the teen was dating his son and then when Kurt was gone, Blaine begging them not to send him back to his parents. He was glad he’d never had to meet Max Anderson; he knew he might’ve knocked him out if he ever did. “I think so, Mercedes. I think they saved each other.”
Mercedes giggled and raised her glass to meet his, clinking them together and whooped. “I’ll drink to that!” They laughed and drank, their eyes sliding back to Kurt and Blaine as the older man spun his golden-eyed fiancé and their bodies slammed back together, giggling and tipsy.
Kurt laughed loudly as Blaine spun and came back to him, the alcohol coursing through their veins mixed with the passion and happiness they felt making the younger man come at him, slamming their bodies together. Blaine kissed Kurt’s neck, growling a little and swinging his hips against Kurt’s, his body reacting to having the love of his life so close and growing hard under his touch. Kurt moaned lowly and gripped Blaine’s back as Blaine’s lips found his again, his own body reacting to the passion swirling in both of them.
They looked into each other’s eyes, glasz meeting with love and intensity, the last few lines of the song playing bursting from their vocal chords, joined in a duet of a song they loved, last sung by their Glee club teacher when Kurt was graduating.
And when you finally fly away
I’ll be hoping that I served you well
For all the wisdom of a lifetime
No-one can ever tell
But whatever road you choose
I’m right behind you, win or lose
Forever young, forever young
Forever young, forever young
Blaine rested his chin on Kurt’s shoulder, looking around the room as they swayed and sighed happily. “Kurt, do you remember when we met? I turned around and saw you and I think I fell in love. I saw this gorgeous creature that could change my life and I ran away from it. I sublimated everything on that guy and Rachel then you stood up there singing, so brave about a bird and I realised I didn’t have to be scared. If you could sing about a bird I could let myself love you.”
Kurt leant away and looked at him, awed but confused. “Blaine?”
Blaine blinked, his eyes filled with tears. “You saved me. You saved me from my parents, from my fears, from what I thought I should be. Kurt, when get married I want to be Blaine Hummel. I know we joked about it when I asked you but I’m serious, I want to be yours.”
Kurt choked on his tears, a wide grin spreading across his face. “Of course Blaine, oh baby I love you. Kurt and Blaine Hummel. I like that.”
They kissed and wiped each other’s tears away and looked around. Blaine whispered. “Can we go home now?”
Kurt nodded and took Blaine’s hand and they walked back to their table, Kurt smiled as Burt looked up at him and smiled, Mercedes sat next to him watching Sam, Finn and Cooper jumping around on the dance floor to another fast song and Carole with her head leant against his shoulder on the other side. Kurt called out over the music. “Guys we’re going to head home, do you want us to get you a cab back to the hotel?”
Burt shook his head and replied. “No, you boys carry on; we’ll find our way back when Coop, Finn and Sam get finished with their bromance over there.”
Kurt giggled and looked over then looked back at his dad as Blaine pulled him towards the exit. “Dad don’t say bromance.”
Kurt giggled as Blaine sang, their arms wrapped around each other, Blaine guiding them towards their bedroom. They made it to the bed and stripped before collapsing onto the bed together and crawling under the covers.
“You know, I never got to thank you,” Kurt said and turned but he was talking to himself, Blaine lay on his front, his handsome face turned towards him, dark lashes fanned out across his upper cheeks. He smiled and brought the covers up over Blaine’s tanned back and snuggled up to his side. Blaine’s body turning to him automatically in his sleep. “You did save me Blaine, more than you know.” He fingered a thin scar on his wrist and snuggled up, kissing Blaine softly and falling asleep as Blaine’s sleepy lips mirrored his actions.
