When Kurt first signed up for Adam's Apples, he had just been looking for a way to spend more time with Adam. They went out for coffee and lunch often enough, but since Adam was a senior, he and Kurt barely saw each other in school, and Kurt wasn't going to lose this guy because he didn't let himself make time for them to spend together. He knew not to make that mistake again.
The meetings are interesting, to say the least. Unlike the New Directions at McKinley, this club doesn't have any competitions or performances to prepare for; the meetings are just people singing. No ulterior motive, no goal of some sort of trophy reward. It's refreshing, and going to a school where every moment is about doing everything you can to make a name for yourself on Broadway, the laid-back, silly atmosphere of the club is a nice break from that. Everyone sings in chorus or solos or duets or however they pleased, and sometimes they can even dare to reach for a note that they know they can't hit, or attempt a dance that looks completely ridiculous. And it's okay because Adam's Apples isn't about getting on Broadway. It's about having fun. Sometimes Kurt wonders if the other NYADA students even remember what that is.
It's fun. There was no other way to put it. Kurt has fun showing up after exhausting classes and making up a dramatic rendition of "Toot It and Boot It" or "Sexy and I Know It," and he has fun when Adam pleads for Kurt to dance with him and they would lock hands and do some crazy sort of waltz across the stage, giggling and falling over each other.
Sometimes Kurt just thinks about how lucky he is that he found Adam, or rather, that Adam found him. He won't say he's in love because he's not there yet, and he doesn't even know if he'll ever be there. He still misses Blaine. He misses Blaine so much even when he thinks about how much Blaine hurt him and how their relationship fell apart. Sometimes he wonders if they'll ever get back together. Sometimes he hopes they will. But still, here, in New York City, hundreds of miles from Lima, Kurt lets himself enjoy the way his heart beats just a little bit faster and his skin feels a little bit warmer when he sees Adam smile and he knows the smile is for him.
