He wanted to memorize that moment. A moment just for him and his dad, all alone in the choir room. The place where everything had started for him.
"You have to let me tell Blaine!"
Those words kept replaying inside Kurt's head.
It made him incredibly happy to think his father loved and accepted Blaine enough to want to tell him such big news. Of course, Kurt knew his father had accepted and loved him just as much as before he had come out to him, but Kurt hadn't expect Burt to warm up so much and so fast towards Blaine, especially after a couple of very awkward meetings - Kurt had not yet forgotten the cause of The Talk nor the morning after The Rachel Berry House Party Trainwreck Extravaganza – but of course, even after those moments, Blaine always knew how to charm a person again. His role as the always polite, charming and smiling private schoolboy fitted him perfectly; he can wind everyone around his fingers with just a smile and a wink.
The day Kurt and Blaine had gotten together, Kurt came home with the biggest smile on his face since... well, since forever actually, and Burt had immediately understood what had happened and had only been happy for him. Of course, for Kurt it meant some more awkward talks with his dad, but Burt had never showed having any troubles with the newfound love couple and Kurt loved him for it.
"You have to let me tell Blaine!"
With this sentence alone, Kurt felt his love for his father – what he thought would be impossible - grow and felt his heart swell in his chest. Of course he wouldn’t let his dad tell Blaine the news and he knew Burt knew that just as well, but the fact that Burt took the chance - the effort - to ask it...
It was enough for Kurt to throw him over the edge and let the tears that had been forming in his eyes since the moment he read the good news in the letter from NYADA, slowly fall and make their way across his cheeks. He watched his father standing there right before him with eyes that spoke of so much love and proud written all over his face. He threw himself in Burt’s arms and didn’t let go for a good couple of minutes. He wanted to memorize that moment. A moment just for him and his dad, all alone in the choir room. The place where everything had started for him.
Everything had gotten better for him because of the people he’d met in this room. Here, he finally found the acceptance, love and friends he had been longing for since the day his mother died. Kurt had been devastated and his whole life had turned upside down. He never had a lot of real friends, but from that moment on, he had none. He’d isolated himself, built walls around his heart and he had never let anyone come emotionally near him for a couple of years. At home, he tried to be the best son his father could wish for and did everything he was asked and more without any question or fight. Those were the hardest years of his life and they had broken Kurt from the inside. He had to face a cruel world where everybody seemed to think you were different and wrong – and he had to do it all alone. Kurt had never wanted to admit it to his dad, but it had killed him a little bit inside every time someone said something mean and hurtful. Of course he had pretended like he couldn’t care less and he was superior to everyone around him, but his heart had clenched painfully at every slushie, remark or shove.
When he auditioned for Glee club and met his fellow club mates, he finally learned how to trust people again. That strange little group of misfits became the best friends Kurt had never even dared to dreamed about. They showed him how to hope, dream and – most of all – how to love.
And then Blaine came around. Beautiful, sweet and perfect Blaine. Kurt had instantly fallen for him. Hard. Looking back at that first moment on the staircase, Kurt secretly knows he was gone the moment his eyes met Blaine’s. He had drowned in those gorgeous hazel eyes and was left speechless for a moment before being able to introduce himself and ask what was going on. They became best friends almost instantly. They understood each other like Kurt had never experienced. Kurt trusted Blaine. They cried together and laughed together. He had shared secrets with him and had listened to secrets of Blaine. For Kurt, it felt like he had known Blaine his whole life. He felt like they completed each other. He felt like Blaine was his soul mate.
So here he was - Kurt Hummel, an openly gay student in Lima, Ohio who has been beaten up, crushed and ridiculed his whole life, but always fought back - with an accepting letter from NYADA in his hands, in the arms of his father. He and his dad had gone through a lot together in their lives, and they probably would go through a whole lot more, but in moments like these, wrapped up in each other's arms, Kurt realized they would make it together. They could conquer the world as long as they had each other.
