Kurt's index finger slowly circled the smooth rim of his cocktail glass. He'd been sitting at the same bar stool in the Hotel Flamingo for the past hour and a half, turning over endless thoughts in his head as he downed quite a few drinks. Only the sound of the off-key pianist in the background kept him company in the dimly lit lounge. The bartender had long since split. The scattered couples around the room remained nearly motionless, listening to what they must have thought was quality music. Kurt couldn't help but disagree.

"Well, gang." Off-key pianist guy spoke up over the faulty microphone, yanking Kurt from his sea of thoughts. "This is the last night I'll be playin' here. I got a gig up in The Apple." A few half-hearted cheers came from the audience. "Thank you kindly. Now I'd like to introduce my replacement. He's real fly when it comes to music." Kurt rolled his eyes, resting his cheek on the palm of his hand and allowing his eyelids to drift shut.

"Well, I guess I could let the new guy do the introducin' himself, so here he is." Kurt listened for the shifting of bodies, then the gentle sound of 'the replacement' sitting down at the piano.

"Good evening." A smooth voice rang over the crackly speakers. "I'm not so good with introducin' myself, so I'll allow this song to do the work. Here's Nat King Cole's 'Love Me as Though There Were No Tomorrow'." Kurt's ears tuned in to the sound of the man's velvet voice, the corners of his mouth rising into a slow smile at the mention of the title. He turned on his stool, the small squeak so loud in the nearly dead-silent room. The replacement pianist glanced in Kurt's direction when he heard the squeak. Instantly, the pianist's face brightened. Kurt's breath hitched and he smiled back, gripping the stool with one hand as the pianist started to play, maintaining eye contact.

"Love me as though there were no tomorrow." New (better) pianist-guy's smile softened. "Take me out of this world tonight." Kurt told himself the pianist was playing this song just for him, whether or not it was true. "Take me, make me forget my sorrow." Kurt sighed a very gentle sigh of contentment, relaxing against the bar as the sweet sound of that gentle voice made all his thoughts escape him. "So, when I wake tomorrow, I'll know our love was right." The pianist's eyes shined. Little orbs of honey staring right at Kurt. Right at his heart.

"Kiss me," Was that a wink? That was a wink. Kurt's face flushed. Since when was the room so hot? "As though it were now or never." Kurt wished it were only the two of them. He should feel embarrassed, ashamed, even, to be acting this way in broad daylight. But he couldn't bring himself to feel anything but a spark of electric hope flowing through him. "Teach me all that a heart should know. Love me as though there were no tomorrow." The pianist tilted his head as his grin grew wider. His smile seemed to make his face light up even more. "Oh, my darling, love me, don't ever let me go."

Kurt turned in his seat, biting his lip as he rested his chin on his hands. "Love me as though there were no tomorrow. Oh, my darling, love me, don't ever let me go…" As the song came to a close, the small crowd cheered. Kurt clapped elegantly, avoiding the pianist's piercing eyes that were filled with such emotion that Kurt's heart nearly burst with feeling.

The pianist played several more songs. Mostly more Nat King Cole. Kurt closed his eyes and just felt. Felt the way the pianist's voice could affect him along with the way his strong fingers played the keys. Kurt was moments from falling asleep when he heard the clink of metal against the counter by his ear. When he looked up, the pianist was walking away with a jump in his step, looking over his shoulder at Kurt with a sly smile. Kurt glanced down at the counter and noticed a hotel room key with a note.

"Blaine Anderson, Room 17," it read. Kurt smiled and gripped the key tightly in one hand, the note in the other as he chased after Blaine towards the elevators.

"Blaine Anderson." Kurt thought to himself. "What a swell name."
