“Fuck!” he cursed, kicking the door with his foot.
Why was the library shut? It was never shut and he needed this damn book! He thought for a moment before remembering that sometimes the side door was left open for students to come from the common rooms. It was a convenient shortcut.
He might as well try. He walked around to the side door and pushed it experimentally. It clicked open.
“Yes.” he said under his breath.
He walked into the library, down the small corridor into the main area and he saw that all the lights were off. Luckily, he’d been here enough times to know where the light switch was so he pulled out his phone for any kind of light and began guiding himself towards the desk.
He could hear some kind of whimpering, but it sounded like someone was in pain, someone was hurt. He sped up his pace, shining his phone around as much as possible for any hint as to what was going on. Fear rode through him and he was suddenly very scared about what he might find.
“Hello?” he said, but he wasn’t sure how far his voice would reach.
He continued walking, the noises becoming clearer. He could hear someone whispering horrible things, things he had never expected to hear before but he recognised the voice. He was sure it was the manager here; he’d been here enough times to know all of the members of staff. Tony was the manager and then there was Blaine, Polly, Jen, Nick and Holly. He was sure.
He reached the edge of the isle, and he could hear whimpering. He glanced around the corner and his jaw dropped, breath catching in his throat and he wanted to
throw up somewhere but he knew he had to do something.
He could see Tony, leaning over Blaine on the sofa.
Blaine’s eyes were dropping shut, and he could see the tears stained on his cheeks, his wrist hanging off the sofa had visible harsh marks on them. Tony was tugging cruelly on Blaine’s clothes, and before he knew what he was doing, Nathan ran out towards him. He fist impacted in the side of Tony’s face, and he watched as Tony fell backwards a little bit, and then reached for the desk next to him, gripping the clear bottle and holding it up, ready to swing at Nathan.
Nathan swallowed hard and darted back to where he had come from, pausing when he reached the end of the isle and turned around to look back at Blaine. He couldn’t leave him there. He was sure Blaine was no longer conscious, his body too still as Tony’s hands ran viciously along his torso. Nathan frantically looked around and he grabbed the top of a chair, the only thing near enough to him. He picked it up comfortably and ran back towards Tony, the back of the chair impacting his body and jaw. Tony flew backwards and crashed into the floor, blood spilling from his mouth, arms rising to cover his face as Nathan dropped the chair a foot or two away from him.
“DON’T YOU DARE FUCKING MOVE.” Nathan yelled at him as Tony reached towards it. He cowered back, hands pressing deeply into the gash on his face.
“Blaine...Blaine, come on Blaine.” Nathan said over and over, he refastened his jeans and put his hand on his cheek, the other reaching to check his pulse. He reached into his pocket where he’d dropped his phone and dialled 911. He asked for an ambulance and the police and they gave him instructions to move Blaine into the recovery position. He did as he was instructed and then spoke in hushed tones to Blaine as tears began rolling down his cheeks.
“Come on Blaine...talk to me...please..” he begged.
“K-Kurt..” Blaine mumbled, eyes struggling visibly to open. His voice was gravelly and Nathan knew he couldn’t keep him conscious for much longer.
“We’ll get Kurt...I’ll bring him, I swear. Just stay with me Blaine. Come on,” Nathan said, pressing his cool hands against Blaine’s flush cheeks.
“Tired...” Blaine grumbled, voice fading.
“No Blaine. Talk to me, come on, Blaine come on.” He cried harder, fighting for everything to keep this boy awake.
Blaine didn’t reply, his eyes dropped heavily shut completely, and Nathan found himself leaning his head onto Blaine’s torso, tears spilling out as he fought for Blaine.
He heard laughter behind him and turned to see Tony struggling to sit up, leaning his back against the desk.
“The police are on their way. You won’t get away with anything.” Nathan spat.
“I’ve had a good run.” He shrugged.
Nathan felt sick. How many times had this happened? What if he hadn’t showed up, would it have happened again and again? He understood that Blaine couldn’t tell anyone, but how much had Tony got through to making Blaine keep this a secret. Did he force him to drink every time? Did he spike the drink every time? Nathan felt disgusted that this had gone so unnoticed. He felt guilty for knowing both of them and never standing in the way of this. He could have helped a long time ago.
“How many times?” Nathan questioned, tears threatening to fall again.
Tony shrugged easily, it made Nathan feel revolted. “Few months”
Nathan’s jaw dropped but at that moment, he heard police sirens outside and men came running through the side door.
“HELLO?” They yelled.
“DOWN HERE.” Nathan screamed back, holding eye contact with Tony. “You will never get away with this.” He said to him.
The police and paramedics moved Nathan away from the scene to give a statement. He was told the paramedics had to check over Tony’s jaw before he could be questioned.
“Please, don’t let him get away...please, he did this.” He begged.
The policeman smiled a small smile at him. “He won’t go anywhere, don’t worry. Just calm down and then we’ll talk to you, okay? You’re in shock you need a drink of water.”
He escorted him into the police car and Nathan became extremely worried.
“Please, I need to see Blaine. Is he going to be okay?” He pressed.
“He’s with the paramedics. We’ll take you to the hospital in a while.”
Nathan nodded and pressed his forehead against the blackened police car window.

Blaine drifted in and out of consciousness for the next few days, each time he came around he saw Nathan sitting by his bed, the dark circles under his eyes becoming more prominent each time. The third time he came around fully, he saw Rachel by his bed in Nathan’s usual chair, tear stained cheeks glistening under the sharp light.
“Rach...” His voice was hoarse, but he was able to speak a little bit now. His throat was healing well.
“Hi Blaine” She whispered, tears rolling silently down her cheeks.
“Don’t cry” he said softly.
She laughed and brushed her tears away, he smiled at her and she returned it, her eyes stinging with threatening tears again.
“How you feeling?” She asked.
“Better,” he smiled.
“I’m glad. They said you can come home tomorrow.” She grinned. Blaine was relieved, he’d been in here way too long and the same four walls he kept waking up to were seriously affecting his patience.
“Where’s Kurt?” Blaine questioned. Rachel’s face turned serious and she shuffled her chair forward to take Blaine’s hand.
“We...we don’t-”
But right at that moment, Nathan and Finn walked through the door, Nathan looking intently at Finn as Finn talked wildly about something.
“And then as soon as I-Oh. Blaine, you’re up!” Finn exclaimed. Blaine smiled at him.
“How are you feeling?” Nathan asked as Rachel dropped Blaine’s hand and took the coffee Finn handed her.
“Better. Rach said I can come home tomorrow.”
“Yeah.” Nathan grinned.
The door clicked open and a small brunette woman poked her head around the door frame.
“Sorry, I’m going to have to ask you all to leave. Blaine needs his rest before he can go home tomorrow. You’re welcome to come see him about 8 tomorrow before he gets discharged.”
“Thank you.” Rachel replied as she shut the door. They all wished Blaine well and Rachel kissed his cheek and then they left. Blaine let himself sink into his pillow, wishing Rachel had answered his question about Kurt.
The following morning, at dead on 8 o’clock Rachel and
Nathan walked into Blaine’s room to find him sitting up cheerfully, sipping on a carton of orange juice.
“You look better sweetie.” Rachel commented as she kissed his cheek.
“I feel better.” His voice sounded almost back to normal completely and Nathan grinned.
They talked for a while about nothing in particular, just things Blaine had missed the past week. Tina and Mike had visited apparently, but Blaine was unconscious the whole time they were here. Names of people who had stopped by went on and on, but no one uttered Kurt’s name, and the way that Rachel had avoided the topic of Kurt made him realise that Kurt really hadn’t come to see him.
After a while, the nurse came by and checked all of the machines surrounding Blaine and then unplugged them all.
She told Blaine that he was free to go, but he’d have to take it easy for a few weeks at home. He nodded and thanked her, and made a mental note to buy her some chocolates or flowers. He’d been very aware of how much she’d done for him and he was extremely grateful.
Rachel took him home and guided him to the sofa, resting a blanket over him and fetched him a glass of orange juice.
“How are you feeling?” she said, brushing some hair off his forehead.
“Good.” He smiled. “Rach?”
“Yes?” She said, settling on the end of the sofa next to where his feet were curled up.
“Where’s Kurt?” he whispered.
She tensed obviously, and Blaine’s heart sank.
“We don’t know Blaine.” She replied softly, reaching her hand out to rub his leg soothingly. “He was in Lima, but when Finn phoned Burt, he said Kurt had left a few days before and had gone to stay in some motels for a few nights as he had a little road trip to sort his head out. We didn’t tell Burt about you, we knew that he’d be mad at Kurt for not having a way to get in touch.” Blaine nodded, tears filling his eyes but he refused to let them fall.
“He turned off his phone,” Rachel continued. “We can’t phone him but Finn goes out every night, trying to find him or to find someone who’s seen him.”
They were silent for a moment, and then Rachel choked out a sob, it alerted Blaine and he sat up a little, placing his glass on the table.
“You never told me, Blaine.” She cried. “You said he harassed you a bit but you-you never. He was raping you and you-”
Blaine swallowed hard, tears rolling silently down his
cheeks.
“I-You said you couldn’t tell Kurt but-you were facing all of this alone and I’m so sorry. Blaine, I am. I’m so sorry,” she repeated, tears wetting her cheeks.
“Shhh,” Blaine soothed, moving to cuddle her into his arms. “Shhh, it’s not your fault..”
“We could have helped.” She sobbed.
He pressed a kiss to her hair as tears rolled heavily down his own cheeks. “I was so scared” He confessed.
“I know,” She cried, gripping his arms around her tighter.
“I’m sorry. You’re safe now, you’re safe” she repeated over and over.
“I need Kurt,” he cried, whispering softly into her hair.
“I know,” she said sadly.
