The bar was full of people, odd for a Sunday night but the celebration of saving a life down at Seattle Grace Hospital was filling out the dim lighted room. “Joe's” was right across the street of the Hospital, so it was a usual hang out spot for the doctors. They all sat near the dart game, beers and specialty drinks at hand, yelling over each other to talk.

Kurt Hummel watched them from the other side of the bar, sitting at the counter. He held his own beer, smiling at their seemed friendship. He had never had that, not even in Lima. Or course he had the Glee Club, but they had never respected him and emotionally bullied him as much as the jocks did. After his father moved them from Seattle when his mother passed away, he had never taken the time to focus on friends, because all he wanted was to be a doctor to save people.

Elizabeth Hummel had been the best general surgeon in the United States, and she had always wanted him to follow his footsteps. She helped him get to know all of the parts of surgery that he needed to know. She became sick when he was eight, dying a year later of a tumour in her heart. Seattle Grace had lost a great surgeon that day and Kurt swore he would take her place and be half as good as she was.

He was starting his intern year at Seattle Grace the next day, after years of university, he was both scared and excited. He wanted to prove that the years he spent focused on his studies were worth it, and that the money his father helped him pay was being put to good use. Though he was scared he was going to fail at what he did and he wouldn't live up to his mother's expectations.

“Hi!” a voice disrupted his thoughts.

Kurt looked up from his drink, blinking a little to try to believe his eyes. The man in front of him was gorgeous and paying attention to Kurt. The man's eyes brightened when Kurt's attention turned to him.

“I'm Blaine,” the man continued.

Kurt looked at the dilated golden eyes — gorgeous golden eyes — of the man, then back down to his beer. Blaine couldn't be interest in talking to him; no one had ever been interest in talking to him. He couldn't imagine anyone being interested in him, because Blaine couldn't be gay. Kurt glanced down again for a slight second and then back up, surprised by the slight look of rejection on his face.

Kurt shook his head slightly, taking the man's interest as a confidence booster.

“How drunk are you, exactly?” Kurt heard himself say.

Blaine grinned, winking at him, “Not drunk enough to forget anything in the morning.”

Kurt let out a chocked breath at the forwardness of his seduction. He smiled, letting out his hand.

“I'm Kurt.”

Blaine slid in the seat next to him, making sure to face him, “It's wonderful to meet you, Kurt.”

Kurt felt his cheeks go warm and his breath hitch. He had almost swooned idiotically at the way Blaine spoke, and he felt embarrassed. He looked down to hide the blush as Blaine looked around the bar to hide his own.

“Do you want to get out of here?” Blaine asked suddenly.

Kurt looked back up, starring into the eyes of the man who somehow made his stomach turn. He let out a breath, feeling his heart warm up for the first time in a while.

“Okay.”
