“Yes?” Kurt didn’t take his eyes off the mirror.
“Kurt?” Burt cleared his throat and stood behind his son.
“I know you’re going out with Blaine tonight, and I need to talk to you about something.” Burt’s eyes were locked on Kurt’s in the mirror.
“What is it, dad?” Kurt set his comb down and put his hands gently in his lap.
“I’ve been talking to Finn and Carole, and they think that it’s time I extend your curfew. “
“Wonderful. Have I been given much?” Kurt smiled at his dad’s reflection in the mirror. Burt looked back nervously and somewhat beaten down.
“Yes. You’ve been given an extra hour on weeknights and two hours on weekends. But only for the summer.” Burt looked seriously down at Kurt. Kurt smiled and nodded his head, accepting the time change.
“Thank you very much, dad.” Kurt picked up his comb again and kept humming to himself as Burt left the room. Kurt didn’t notice the look on his dad’s face as he left. Burt pulled the door closed behind him and stopped. His path downstairs was blocked by Carole.
“Did you tell him?” Carole asked.
“About the curfew change, yes.” Burt said.
“Didn’t you tell him about his rules for tonight?” Carole pressed.
“No. He’s my son; he’s my baby, and I couldn’t….I couldn’t face telling him just then. When I first went in, I saw my 17 year old son sitting there, but as I started telling him about curfew, I saw my 6 year old asking for a tea party again.” Burt closed his eyes in an effort to hold back his tears. Carole gently touched his face.
“We’ll tell him together when he comes downstairs. We’ll tell both boys. Together we’ll be strong for each other.” Carole wrapped her arms around Burt’s neck and pulled him in close.
“I knew I loved you for a lot of reasons, Carole, but you just gave me another reason to love you even more.” Burt whispered as he held his wife tightly. He took a deep breath and loosed his grip. “Let’s go downstairs and prepare.”
Kurt heard his door shut and put down his comb. He considered his reflection in the mirror. An extra two hours on weekends…that meant that tonight his curfew was 2 in the morning instead of midnight. He couldn’t wait to tell Blaine, and when his phone started playing “Candles” he squealed.
“Ohmygod Blaine! Guess what?!” Kurt launched off the vanity stool and began pacing the floor excitedly.
“What?” Blaine asked curiously.
“Dad and Carole gave me a curfew extension, which means that tonight my curfew is 2 instead of 12. We have an extra two hours to be together!” Kurt threw himself onto the bed with a squeal as silence met him from the other line. “Blaine? Are you there?” Kurt pulled his phone away from his ear to see if the connection had been dropped. It hadn’t.
“Yeah, Kurt, I’m here. I was just thinking of what I can change our date to tonight now that we have extra time.” Blaine said. Kurt could hear his smile through the phone.
“So Blaine, what do you have planned for tonight?” Kurt asked quietly.
“It’s a surprise, babe.”
“Blaine, it’s always a surprise with you. You never tell me what we’re doing.”
“I know. It keeps the magic alive. Dress nice and I’ll see you in a few hours.”
“Blaine?”
“Yes, Kurt?”
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”

Kurt walked into the kitchen, intent on grabbing a soda, when he bumped into Finn.
“Oh, sorry Finn.”
“It’s okay.” Finn said through a mouthful of sandwich. Kurt shook his head softly.
“Finn do you ever stop eating?” Kurt looked slightly appalled thinking about how much his brother ate in a day.
“Not really, no. Thanks for asking though.” Finn smiled and started to head out of the kitchen, when his path was blocked by Carole.
“Boys, family meeting in the living room right now.” Her voice was set. Finn turned to Kurt and gave him a look of “ohshitohshitohshit”, a look which Kurt reciprocated.
Kurt and Finn sat nervously facing their respective parent, both wondering what had happened to require an emergency family meeting. Carol took a deep breath and started.
“I know you boys have your evenings planned with your respective partners, but there is something we want to tell you.” She looked at Burt and offered her hand out for him to continue.
“Well, being that we’re still a young-ish couple, we…” Burt paused and looked lovingly at Carole. “We want the house to ourselves tonight.” Parent’s eyes met with teenage eyes for a long moment, when Finn spoke.
“So…we have to stay the night at a friend’s house tonight?” Finn looked excitedly over at Kurt, who sat up straight in his chair.
“Like, stay the night…with Blaine?” Kurt’s heart threatened to leap out of his chest at the idea.
“Well, there are still going to be some rules. Kurt, you can stay with Blaine as long as you promise to sleep in another room, and Finn, the same with Rachel. I want both of you to send off a quick text at 10 telling me you’re in the house locked and safe and ready for bed.” Burt looked sternly over at the two teens.
“We want you home by dinner tomorrow night, unless you decide to go on a double date with each other. In that case, your curfew will be midnight.” Carole added firmly but gently.
“Do you boys agree to the terms?” Burt and Carole extended their hands to their respective child, hands which the boys eagerly shook.
“Good. Meeting adjourned. Have a good night boys.” Carole said with a smile.
Finn and Kurt raced away from the table, shoving at each other to get to the stairs first.
“Move it Franken-teen! I have to call Blaine!” Kurt forced his way past Finn, who was close on his heels.
“Yeah, like my call to Rachel is any less important.” At the end of this statement, Finn roughly pushed Kurt into his open bedroom in his fervor to get to his phone, and all things considered, Kurt was thankful for the shove. It meant calling Blaine that much sooner. He grabbed his phone and immediately dialed Blaine. He pressed the cell between his shoulder and his ear as he began to nicely-but-hurriedly pack an overnight bag. He wanted to be fast, but he didn’t want to risk wrinkling his wardrobe.
“Hey babe, what’s up?” Blaine answered.
“OHMYGODBLAINE! So I have some news for you: Dad and Carole want the house to themselves tonight so they’re insisting that Finn and I stay the night away from home. Is it okay if I stay the night with you?” Kurt packed pajamas and clean underwear, and then gently folded his shirt and jeans into the bag. There was silence from the phone. “Blaine?”
“Ohmygod of course it’s okay if you stay the night! This makes my plan even nicer!” Blaine’s voice was dripping with happiness.
“What plan, Blaine?”
“It’s a surprise baby, remember? I will be there soon, I promise.” Blaine replied.
“Hurry. I just have to pack my moisturizers and hair care accessories, and then I will be ready.” Kurt smiled as he set the aforementioned products into his bag. He heard Blaine roughly clear his throat from the other end of the line.
“Okay, Kurt. I just have to make one quick stop, and then I will be there. And I will be yours and you will be mine for an entire night.” Blaine’s response was dripping with love…and lust.
“I love you Blaine.”
“I love you too Kurt.”

True to his word, Blaine was at the door as soon as possible. Kurt leapt off the sofa and bolted for the door.
“I’ll get it!!” He squealed. He threw the door open and launched himself into Blaine’s arms. Blaine caught him, barely, and spun him half way around.
“That’s not as easy as it looks when you’re not prepared for it.” Blaine laughed into Kurt’s neck. Kurt laughed back.
“I don’t care! I’m just happy to be able to spend the next 24 hours with you!” Kurt smiled and kissed Blaine quickly on the lips.
“Kurt, we should grab your bag.”
“Right!” Blaine’s arms were ripped apart as Kurt flew out of them and back into the house. Kurt grabbed his hand at the last possible second and pulled Blaine along behind him. Blaine crossed the threshold with Kurt, holding onto him until he saw Burt. Kurt ran upstairs as fast as his long legs would carry him, and Burt eyed Blaine suspiciously.
“Blaine, I love you like a son, but I want my son back in one piece. Literally and metaphorically.”
“I understand, sir. Trust me; Kurt is perfectly safe with me. The house has a great alarm system in place, and I already have the guest room set for Kurt tonight. I will make sure Kurt sticks to all the rules you’ve laid down, and I will make sure we’re in by no later than 10.” Blaine smiled at Burt, who cocked an eye and waited for a second.
“Good plan, son.” Burt said as he clapped Blaine on the shoulder. Kurt came bounding down the stairs with overnight bag in tow.
“Ready to go?” He looked at Blaine, who nodded. “Well, goodnight dad!” Kurt waved happily at his father, who only waved back. The two boys rushed out the door and into Blaine’s car. Blaine sped away from the house, intent on starting their sleepover. Neither boy spoke most of the drive back to Blaine’s house; Blaine was fixated on breaking all applicable driving laws, nor was Kurt intent on stopping him. Blaine rolled to a stop at a red light and groaned.
“What’s wrong baby?” Kurt asked.
“I hate red lights. They are stopping me giving you the surprise.” Blaine looked over at Kurt with that expression; the one Blaine gave him when they buried Pavarotti. Kurt fell in love with Blaine all over again.
“Well,” said Kurt, softly biting his lower lip. “It does give me a chance to do this.” Kurt leaned over the center console and pulled Blaine in for a deep kiss. Blaine hummed into Kurt’s lips, and Kurt smiled.
“That is an excellent point, my love.” Blaine smiled up at Kurt through long lashes when they broke apart. Kurt held Blaine’s face in his hand, and when Blaine’s amber eyes met Kurt’s blue eyes, all of time seemed to freeze.
HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK!!!!!!
“We should probably go now.” Kurt laughed, dropping his hand and Blaine’s gaze and facing forward. He saw Blaine smile out of the corner of his eye and resume the fast paced drive back home.
When he pulled into the drive way and put the car in park, Blaine held up a hand to still Kurt. Blaine then rushed out of the car and around to Kurt’s door, opening it for him. Blaine held out his hand to Kurt, smiling in appreciation.
“Such a gentleman, Blaine.” Kurt blushed and smiled.
“Well, it’s only proper for someone in line for the throne.” Blaine smirked and kissed Kurt’s knuckles, making him blush deeper. Blaine locked the car behind them and led Kurt through the front door and into the house. “I know it’s been a while since you’ve been here, but welcome anyways. Upstairs, if you please.” Blaine smiled adoringly at Kurt and led him upstairs.
“Blaine?”
“Yes Kurt?”
“I heard you talking to my dad, and I was wondering, are you really making me sleep in the guest room? I’m pretty sure no one’s been in that room in years.” Kurt looked at Blaine as they reached the top of the stairs.
“Of course not, baby. You’re staying the night with me. I only told your dad that to ease his worrying mind. From what you’ve told me, he’s had a rough time after his heart attack.” Blaine said softly and led Kurt into his bedroom. Kurt laughed and relaxed; he should have known that Blaine would never insist on separate sleeping rooms with no adults in the house.
“Blaine, I have an odd favor to ask.” Kurt said awkwardly from his place beside Blaine’s bed.
“I already have it covered, love. Here are some hangers for your shirts and pants, and I cleared out the topmost drawer for you to put everything foldable in.” Blaine handed Kurt a handful of hangers and Kurt sighed happily.
“You know me so well.” He smiled at Blaine briefly before pulling him into a kiss. The kiss started slow and gentle, but soon increased in depth and fervor. Blaine wrapped his arms around Kurt’s waist, tugging lightly on Kurt’s belt loops. Kurt ran his hands slowly up Blaine’s back, feeling the slight definition through the layers of fabric. Too soon for Kurt’s liking, Blaine broke the kiss and stepped away from Kurt, looking slightly flushed. Kurt whimpered softly at the loss of Blaine’s mouth mixing with his.
“Hurry and unpack, so that we can head off on our date. Change into something semi-formal if you have it, otherwise you’re welcome to anything I have in the closet.” Blaine said. He turned and left the room, only to poke his head in a second later. “God, I completely forgot to ask. Would you like something to drink before we go?” Blaine smiled at Kurt.
“Diet Coke if you have it please.” Kurt nodded and began to hang his shirts, tugging at the soft wrinkles in the fabric. He finished unpacking his bag and looked around the room. It had easily been ten minutes, and Kurt was beginning to wonder if Blaine had gotten lost.
“Kurt! Come downstairs when you’re done!” Blaine called from the landing.
“I’m coming. I just have to change!” Kurt called back. He changed into a metallic blue shirt and put on a black vest and bow tie. He decided to stay in his black skinny jeans and boots, checked that his hair was in place, and then headed for the stairs. He stopped when he saw Blaine standing at the bottom. Blaine was wearing a fitted black suit with a burgundy colored shirt. The suit coat had been abandoned in favor of a pair of black suspenders and black skinny tie. Blaine had taken the time to polish his dress shoes and comb his hair, and Kurt was thoroughly impressed.
“Kurt…” Blaine said breathlessly as he caught sight of his boyfriend. “You look wonderful.” Blaine’s eyes were huge as he drank in the sight of his boyfriend, gracefully floating down the stairs towards him.
“Thank you, Blaine.” Kurt let out a breath he was only half aware he’d been holding. “Blaine, you look…” Kurt looked Blaine up and down, taking in the sight of his boyfriend up close. “You look amazing.” Kurt said breathlessly. Blaine stepped over to Kurt and cupped Kurt’s face with his hand. He leaned in and gently kissed Kurt on the lips.
“I have a surprise for you, love. Are you ready?” Blaine asked.
“I’m ready for anything with you, Blaine. Where are we heading, and please don’t say Breadsticks.” Kurt grimaced as Blaine grabbed his hand and interlaced their fingers.
“We’re not going to Breadsticks,” Blaine laughed. “We’re heading this way.” Blaine motioned towards the backyard with his hand. Kurt cocked his head to the side and walked with Blaine towards the back of the house. Blaine stopped in front of the double French doors.
“Kurt, close your eyes.” Blaine whispered.
“Why?” Kurt asked.
“It’s a surprise. Trust me.” Blaine grabbed both of Kurt’s hands and squeezed his fingers lightly. Kurt closed his eyes and held his breath. Blaine led him slowly out of the doors and into the backyard. Kurt could smell an interesting mix of flowers, though he couldn’t quite place them with his eyes closed. The sound of a violin greeted his ears as the cool evening air rushed around his face.
“Blaine, can I open my eyes now?”
“Almost, my love, almost.” Blaine replied. Blaine led Kurt a few more paces and then stopped. “Kurt, I hope you like it…” Blaine took in a deep breath and let it out slowly. “Alright, open your eyes.”
