The day went by relatively quickly, the alphabet, singing, snacks, and coloring. Easy enough. Blaine was adjusting easily to this teaching thing.
Before he knew it the school bell rang and parents began coming in to collect their kids.
Candie sat in her seat idly talking to Conner while they waited for Rachel. Everyone else had left, so Blaine decided he’d start cleaning up now and getting ready for lessons the next day.
He erased the board, put away crayons, and hung some of the prettier drawings on the wall. He pushed in chairs and made sure everything was neat and tidy.
He finished after a few minutes and turned to see where Candie and Conner were still sitting and chatting.
Blaine took a seat next to them and propped his elbows up, resting his chin on his hands.
“Hi” Candie smiled mimicking his actions.
“Hello Candie” Blaine laughed at the dramatic girl and was about to say something when his phone vibrated in his pocket.
“Hey Blainey, there’s a huge storm here and my flight got cancelled. I’ll see you Wednesday.”
“Hey Coop, it’s fine. I’d rather you be safe. Call me when your flight gets in on tomorrow and I’ll pick you up.” Blaine replied quickly and put his phone back in his pocket.
“Who was that?” Candie asked.
“My brother.” Blaine smiled. “He was supposed to be flying back into New York tonight and we were going to hang out but his flight got canceled. He was out of town for a week and I haven’t seen him since the beginning of summer so we were going to go get dinner and catch up, but now I have nothing to do.” He explained.
“Awwh that’s no fun. So you’re not doing anything tonight?” Candie asked with a smile.
“No, I’m not, why?” Blaine asked.
“You should come over for dinner” Candie smiled brightly.
“Candie, you’ve got to stop inviting people over your house without talking to your family first.” Blaine laughed at her enthusiastic smile.
But then again going over to see Kurt would be a great idea.
“I’ll talk to Kurt, and we’ll see.” Blaine replied.
“Hey Blaine!” Finn greeted walking into the room with Rachel in tow.
“Hello Blaine” Rachel smiled. “Candie sweetie you ready to go?” She asked. “Oh and is this the Conner we’re taking home?” She smiled down at the boy.
“Hi I’m Conner, you’re very pretty.” He greeted with a smiled.
“Why thank you sweetheart.” Rachel blushed.
“Whatta ladies man” Finn laughed and gave Conner a fist bump.
“Come on, let’s get home.” Rachel laughed. “It was nice seeing you again Blaine.” Rachel smiled and led Candie and Conner out of the classroom.
“Hold up Rach, I’ll be out in a minute.” Finn said standing in place and not following.
When Rachel had left the room Finn turned to Blaine.
“So Blaine, what are your intentions with Kurt?” Finn asked, somehow seeming even bigger than usual.
“I, um, I-” Blaine stuttered, he hadn’t been expecting this interrogation.
“Kurt is an awesome dude, he’s my little brother, and we all love him. You will not hurt him, understood? If you are not serious about a relationship you need to pull out now. Candie’s already attached to you and I won’t watch you hurt her or my brother. Okay?” Finn said protectively.
“Finn, I would never hurt Kurt, or Candie. I really really really like Kurt. I just hope he’ll give me the chance. And I’ve grown attached to your family too. Being there last night made me feel like I belonged, it’s been years since I felt like I belonged anywhere. I’m not leaving anytime soon Finn, you have me word.” Blaine smiled whole heartedly.
“Awesome!” Finn smiled pulling Blaine into a huge hug.
Blaine was the first to let go but Finn just held him, “You do belong, you’re a part of this family.” Finn said before letting go.
“If you’re not doing anything tonight you should come over, Kurt would love to see you again.” Finn smiled before turning to leave.
Blaine stopped him, “Hey Finn, thanks.” Blaine said trying not to get to emotional.
“No problem.” Finn said giving him a fist bump.
“What was that about?” Rachel asked when Finn caught up to her.
“Older brother stuff I had to take care of.” Finn shrugged and Rachel smiled.
The four of them got to the apartment and took the stairs to the top floor.
“Welcome to my house Conner” Candie said as Rachel opened the door.
“It’s so small.” Conner said not meaning to be rude, simply stating a fact like any other child would.
“No it’s not!” Candie defended.
“Candie, it’s okay. He wasn’t being mean. It is rather small, but we make do. Why don’t you go get you guys a snack?” Rachel served as mediator.
“Okey dokey artichokey. Come on Conner, I think we have some crackers in the kitchen cupboard.” Candie said and grabbed Conner’s hand leading him to the kitchen.
“It must suck for her to bring friends home to this place.” Finn said sitting down on the sofa next to Rachel.
“I know right, why do you think I suggested the stairs. Lord knows what kinda damage Kurt and Blaine did in there last night.” Rachel laughed.
“That’s so trashy.” Finn laughed.
“Well he doesn’t even have a room.” Rachel shrugged.
“Maybe he can move in with Blaine, Blaine seemed pretty serious about his and Kurt’s relationship.”Finn replied.
“Maybe.” Rachel pondered. “But that would break up the family.” Rachel explained.
“You’re right, if Kurt moves out than Candie would have to be shuffled back and forth between Kurt’s and Santana’s.” Finn said now thinking it through.
“Not to mention us! We’d never get to see her!” Rachel complained bringing the situation back to her.
“Maybe we could make a visiting schedule.” Finn suggested and Rachel smiled.
“Maybe.” She sighed.
“I know you two told Kurt to give love a chance, but do you think he really will? I mean he told Santana he’d always be there for her. If things with Blaine get really really serious do you think Kurt would move in with him? I mean sure we don’t have much, but he would never leave any of this behind. I really want Kurt to give Blaine a chance, but do you think he will?” Finn asked.
“I hope so.” Rachel sighed.
“I don’t think Blaine would divide the family. I think we just got a new addition; he’s a part of the family. Maybe he wouldn’t take Kurt, maybe we’d get Blaine.” Finn said standing up with his idea.
“Blaine could move in here!” Finn cheered clapping his hands excitedly.
“We don’t have the room.” Rachel said and Finn said back down.
“We’ll work it out.” Rachel said comforting Finn.
“Hey Rachel?” Finn asked.
“Yeah?” Rachel replied resting her head on his shoulder.
“This whole thing's got me thinking, what happens in the future?” Finn started.
“What do you mean?” Rachel asked.
“You’re so good with Candie, what happens when we want to start a family? What about Santana and Brittany? I’ve never stopped to think how this all affects us. Kurt’s going to move on, him and Blaine will get serious, get their own place or something. Brittany and Santana will get married, get a house, whatever. Then us, we’re getting married in the summer; we’ll find a home, start a family. Then there’s Candie, for the rest of her childhood she’ll be in constant rotation between her family members. We’re barely in our twenties and we have all this to deal with. Kids in our classes are going to frat parties and living life and we’re sitting her playing house with our two gay best friend’s child. I love our life, family is the most important thing to me, but don’t you think it’s all too much sometimes? What do you want to do Rachel?” Finn spoke meaningfully.
“I love you Finn, I love you. And the only thing I know about the future is I will be spending it with you. When times get hard you turn to family and friends. We’re supported and we are loved. Things may be hard but we’ll all get through it. As for the future just let come what may.” Rachel said kissing Finn’s cheek.
“I love you Rachel.” Finn smiled and hugged her.
“We’re so the grownups in this house.” Rachel laughed. “We just had a heart to heart about the future, we’re so the adults.” Rachel giggled.
“I don’t know Rach, sometimes I feel like Kurt’s taking care of five kids and I don’t know how he does it.” Finn said thoughtfully.
“He truly is something. I don’t think if I were in his situation I’d be able to handle it nearly as well as him. You gotta give him props, he’s great.” Rachel smiled.
“Yeah, he is. This is kind of a no-brainer, but he’ll be my best man at our wedding.” Finn smiled proudly.
“No way, he’s going to be my maid of honor!” Rachel exclaimed.
“He’s a dude.” Finn laughed.
“I still want him” Rachel laughed.
“Well he’s mine! All mine!” Finn laughed tickling Rachel as she giggled.
“But I want him!” Rachel laughed loudly.
They continued tickling each other and fighting over who gets Kurt as Kurt walked in and laughed at them.
“You two are children.” Kurt laughed and Rachel and Finn came running over enveloping him in a tight hug.
“Kurt!!!” The both yelled.
“Children.” He laughed and hugged them back.
They we’re a family and they loved each other.
