“Hello, I’m Kurt Hummel. I saw the sign in the window saying you were hiring.” The skinny pale boy with the chestnut hair and the piercing blue eyes said as he approached the counter of the small diner with a smile.
“My wife and I take our business very seriously Mr. Hummel. We don’t need no teenybopper such as yourself slacking off cause you need a few quick bucks.” The older man said sternly.
“Please sir, I need this job. I’m no teenager, I’m twenty years old and I just moved here, I have an almost five year old daughter and I could really use this job. Please.” He practically begged.
“Fine. When can you start?” The man asked gruffly.
“Immediately!” Kurt smiled.
Get a job…check!
Kurt was finally in New York! Okay so maybe not in the way he always imagined he would be in high school. But he was here! Living out his dreams, his new dreams, with his friends and family.
Some parts of his dream were still the same; he was still sharing a tiny shoebox apartment with Rachel in the middle of the city. Only some minor things changed. Like Rachel’s fiancé and Kurt’s step-brother Finn was living with them as well. Okay so there was more than that. He was also living with Brittany and Santana. Not much had changed they were all friends. The only part of his dreams that had changed was now he was living in a tiny shoebox apartment with Rachel, Finn, Brittany, Santana, and his four year old daughter.
How did this all happen again?
Oh right!
It was their sophomore year of high school. Kurt had just come out of the closet, and consequently had also been thrown out of his house.
Not the best year for him.
So anyway he was a sophomore in high school living by himself in a ghetto ass motel room in Lima Heights Adjacent, working two jobs and saving every penny.
Life was hard. What was even harder was school.
He was teased and beaten. It all was becoming too much for him to handle.
Not only was he the token gay kid. He was also the poor homeless kid.
After one particularly bad beating Kurt found himself covered in blood stumbling down the street to catch his bus to his ‘home sweet home’ when his life got flipped upside down.
“Sup Porcelain? Need a ride? I hear your staying over on my side of the tracks.” Santana Lopez said as she pulled her car up next to him gesturing for him to hop in.
If he had to pinpoint the day everything in his life changed. It’d probably be that day.
Santana and him easily became good friends. Santana offered to take him to and from school and he gratefully accepted. It turned out they had more in common than just being top bitches from Lima Heights Adjacent.
Turns out Santana Lopez co-head cheerleader had a secret of her own. A secret dressed as a leggy blonde in a cheerios skirt. Santana was a lesbian and secretly dating Brittany.
At first Santana was scared, then with the help of Kurt she managed to accept herself. She knew who she was and she was proud. She still wouldn’t come out anytime soon but she was proud.
Kurt still endured his fair share of taunting and there were days when he thought he’d never make it through the day. But he pulled through, most often with the help of Santana.
This is why it didn’t surprise him when she offered more help one day.
“Auntie ‘Tana here has a way to fix all your problems.” She said with a saucy wink directed at Kurt.
“How?” Kurt asked intrigued.
“Ever heard of the term beards?” She asked.
“Like facial hair?” Kurt laughed.
“No stupid! It’s when a gay man and a gay women date to cover up.” Santana explained.
“You think we should date?” Kurt asked.
“Yeah, I don’t see why not. We’re already best friends. Plus Brittany keeps accidently slipping up about saying things we do in the bedroom and I’m worried I’m going to get caught. Love her to death, but I just can’t handle that right now. Plus I figure you could use some help getting those Neanderthals to lay off. What do you say?” She asked.
“I think you have a deal.” Kurt smiled shaking her hand.
So they dated for a couple months. They kissed publically and told tall tales about their sexcapades.
It was all going according to plan until one drunken mishap…
They were at a party and totally wasted, and were kissing just for show. But something about alcohol and hormones just doesn’t mix right and before they knew it they were sneaking off to one of the bedrooms upstairs.
The next morning when they came to their senses was pretty awkward…
A month later and a trip to the drug store was even more awkward…
“Santana I’m so sorry.” Kurt said freaking out as the waited for the pregnancy test to reveal the much awaited results.
“It’s my fault too. I was there. Actually I blame Brittany.” Santana huffed angrily.
“Why do you blame her?” Kurt asked confused.
“It’s her fault. She switched my birth control with mints because she thought I was doing drugs. I thought we were safe. I guess not. Oh god! What are my parents going to think?!?” Santana cried into Kurt’s shoulder.
“We don’t even know yet.” Kurt tried comforting her as the timer went off. “Well we’ll know now.” He said lifting her head up with her hand.
“I know we’re not dating. And I know we’re both gay. But no matter what happens, I’ll still be here for you Santana. You’re my best friend and I love you. We’re in this together.” Kurt said pulling the Latina into a hug.
“Thank you so much Kurt. I love you too. Let’s just look and get it over with.” She said nervously.
“Positive.” She said before collapsing into Kurt’s arms.
“Shhh it’s okay. I’m not going anywhere. I’m here. It’s okay.” Kurt comforted.
And that’s how he ended up with a daughter.
As for Santana, her parents kicked her out after finding out she was pregnant. She moved in with Kurt and they continued their sophomore year.
After the baby was born they took turns staying home with here every other day to take care of her while the other went to school.
It was really hard but they made it work.
And now? Now four years later they were going to make it work in New York City.
Sure the apartment was cramped. But they could deal.
Rachel and Finn were happily engage and doing well. Rachel was studying at NYADA with a part time job at a coffee shop, Finn was at NYU studying to be a lawyer working as a paid intern for a law firm on the side. Brittany and Santana were still happily in love. Brittany attended a small community college in the city while working as a dance instructor at a local events place. Santana had to forgo college and simply got a job in the same café as Rachel. Kurt had just scored a job at a dinner across the street from the café and down the street from the apartment. Life was looking up. Only problem, he was still looking for love. Sure he had his daughter Candace, or Candie for short, and he loved her to death. But he still wanted his prince to come.
Well there’s always hope for tomorrow.

Thank you so much! That means a lot! Yeah I've always really liked Kurt-Santana friendship fics so I figured I'd give it a go. Thanks for reading and commenting!!!
not awful at all; on the contrary, it's great! i've always thought there was potential for a kurt-santana friendship on glee. you have set the foundation for that friendship here and took it a step beyond. nice start!
thanks for the clarification. i get it now. i was four when i was in preschool, five in transitional kindergarten, and six in kindergarten. maybe blaine should be teaching a preschool/kindergarten combo class; that would take care of all the age issues. and i like all those ideas about candie being younger than everyone else and being picked on. thanks for abating my confusion. i really am enjoying this story and i'm yours–hook, line, and sinker, till the bitter (well hopefully not bitter) end!
I may do just that. Yeah she's still young for just preschool as is so that will definitely come into play when she's picked on. But that will be dealt with later. Coming up will be Blaine coming over for dinner. I'm out now but when I get home I'll work on the next few chapters. Thanks for reading I'm so glad you like it! And don't worry none of my stories have bitter endings. Anyway thanks again :)
Let's see here... Just finished chapter 4. Hooked on it. Wanting more. Big surprise. I LOOOVVVVVEEEEE your fanfics! Also, I think there's a typo in chapter 2 (something like that) where it says Brittany is wearing a shit. I'm not sure, but I think you might've meant shirt. ;) Anyway, I love, love, love! Santana is hilarious.
So glad you like it!!! Oh god typos. This is why I can't type whole stories on my phone :( thanks for pointing that out. That's so awkward Anyway thanks for reading!!!!!
