Meanwhile in Westerville, a group of high school seniors were searching for an organization that they could just to complete their service project requirements for graduation.
Wes, always the one in control seemed to have been leading this search party bookmarking and starring pages he thought would either be fun or would get them the most hours with the littlest work.
His friends David and Blaine sat and watched over his shoulder.
“David! Blaine!” Wes said excitedly. “This one’s perfect!” He exclaimed, moving so the other boys could read the site.
“Fat camp? Why?” Blaine laughed.
“It’s a month and a half we’ll get all of our service hours and we’ll actually be able to graduate.” Wes smiled.
“Unlike you two procrastinators I already have all of my service hours.” David laughed.
“Yeah but you can still help me and Blainers out.” Wes pleaded.
“Why fat camp? What qualifies us to work as counselors?” Blaine laughed.
“Come on your athletic. You can do it. All you gotta do is tell a bunch of fat kids what to do and monitor their snack intake. It’ll be a piece of cake.” Wes smiled.
“Is that a fat joke?” David laughed.
“Ha! I didn’t even think about it like that. Come on the deadlines tomorrow can I just sign us up?” Wes begged.
“Fine.” Blaine sighed.
“They have a talent show at the end of the week, we can do that too! It’ll be fun!” Wes smiled.
“If you even think about singing Fat Bottom Girls I’ll literally murder you.” David laughed.
“Oh God! That’s too perfect.” Wes said tearing up from laughing so hard.
“I don’t want to go to this camp with you guys, you’re just going to be mean to all of them.” Blaine frowned.
“Awwh come on Blainers all the fat chicks will love you.” David laughed.
“Fine. Sign us up.” Blaine laughed.
Wes filed out each of their volunteer forms and everything was set for them to go.
After that was settled they hung out for awhile before Wes and David headed home leaving Blaine alone to his thoughts.
Or so he thought as his older brother Cooper walked into the room. “Blaine? Why didn’t you correct him when he said all the fat chicks will love you? Do they not know?” He asked hesitantly.
“No they don’t. No one knows. And no one can know.” Blaine sighed.
Blaine Anderson was still in the closet and living in a town like this, he certainly wasn’t coming out anytime soon. The only people who knew were his parents and Cooper. They were all supportive of it, but for some reason he still didn’t feel safe telling anyone else.
It was a secret he was willing to keep as he watched how hateful this world could truly be.
Sure his school enforced an ‘anti-bullying policy’ but even that didn’t leave him feeling all that secure. Truth is, he was very insecure about his sexual orientation. He constantly worried what others might think.
Little did he know, Wes and David already had their speculations and they weren’t the slightest bit bothered by it. In fact they were ready for the day Blaine would finally come up and they’d embrace him arms wide open.
But he didn’t see that, he was too busy living in fear.
“Blaine, they’re your best friends. I think you should tell them.” Cooper sighed breaking the silence.
“I can’t Cooper. I just can’t.” Blaine frowned.
“One day.” Cooper smiled. “One day, it’ll all get better. Just have courage.” Cooper said patting his brothers back and walking away.
Courage.
