Author's Notes: This chapter is all dialog, but it gives insight as to why Kurt and Blaine have never met.Warnings for talks of abuse.

“So um, that was fun.” Rachel joked as she got into the car.

“Was not. I knew we shouldn’t have gone over there.” Kurt said sadly as he got into the passenger seat.

“I couldn’t help it; I had to go say hi to Finn.” Rachel said smiling at the mention of her boyfriend.

“I know I know you love him blah blah blah.” Kurt teased. “I just wish things weren’t like this. I wish we could have gone over there and talked no problem. Hell I wish I was at the family dinner.” Kurt said softly.

“I know you do sweetie. There jerks, but its okay I’ll always love you. And Finn will too. It really pains him the way they treat you. He feels so bad about it, like there's nothing he can do.” Rachel explained as she drove away.

“I know Rach. Finn is super nice and he’s really caring. He still calls me whenever he gets the chance to see if I’m okay. I’ll always have him as family, and that’s comforting.  I understand him sticking up for me and I’m grateful for that, but I don’t want him to be resented for it. Do you get what I mean?” Kurt asked.

“He loves you Kurt, you’re his brother. Of course he’ll always stick up for you. And I don’t think he cares if Burt or Carole resent him for it. At least that’s how I feel about Blainey’s situation. Cooper and I always take Blaine’s side, and we love him unconditionally. Because of this mom and dad have started to push us away as well. But who cares, they’re the ones who destroyed the family.” Rachel explained.

“I guess I can see where you’re coming from. I just feel bad about the whole situation.” Kurt sighed.

“Well don’t. You are perfect the way you are and I love you. You shouldn’t feel bad about anything, and you shouldn’t have to change who you are to please others.” Rachel said sternly.

“Oh Rachel, what did I do to deserve a friend like you.” Kurt smiled resting his head on her shoulders.

“Kurt we’ve been best friends all our lives how could I not be there for you?” Rachel laughed.

“You guys have been best friends all your lives?” Blaine asked from the back seat.

“You bet.” Rachel smiled.

“Why is this the first time I’m meeting Kurt then?” Blaine asked confused.

“I’m not allowed at your house or anywhere near you guys.” Kurt laughed.

“What?” Blaine asked even more confused.

“Well not that you’d want to go after what dad did to you.” Rachel laughed.

“Guys! Will someone explain to me what happened?” Blaine whined.

“Your parents always speculated me being gay. The way I dressed and the way I acted, so they wanted me as far away from the family as possible. Rachel and I being in the same class since preschool stayed friends though. Along with our best friend Mercedes.” Kurt started.

“Whenever I say I’m hanging out with Mercedes, I’m always with Kurt as well.” Rachel added.

“So anyway in fourth grade I was over your house for lunch with Rachel and ‘Cedes. We thought we were all alone. Your parents were at work, and you and Cooper where at the park or something. We went up to Rachel’s room and were talking about all the cute boys in our class when your dad walked in. Let’s just say he wasn’t pleased with me being there, or with the discussion. Bad stuff happened and I ended up in the hospital…So I haven’t been back, well I have just not when anyone other than Rachel is home.” Kurt explained sadly.

“You ended up in the hospital?!? What the fuck happened?!?” Blaine asked angrily.

“It started with just shoving but then he back handed me and I fell backwards…and threw the glass window. Your driveway isn’t the most comfortable place to land on your head. There was so much blood I thought I died.” Kurt said softly.

“He knocked you through the window!?!” Blaine yelled.

“Yeah, needless to say my time over your house has been limited. No offense but your dad’s kind of a jerk.” Kurt laughed.

“I’m so sorry I had no idea!” Blaine exclaimed.

“It’s fine.” Kurt shrugged.

“So anyway, that’s why you haven’t met Kurt before. But I figured since you’d be going to McKinley with us you could at least get to know him. You guys have a lot in common and I think being friends would be good for the two of you. It’d give you both someone to talk to who understands what you’re going through.” Rachel explained.

“That’s a lovely idea Rachel.” Kurt smiled. “I’ll always be here for you Blaine. You’re my best friend’s little brother, so that makes you a friend as well. If you ever need anyone or if you just want to talk I’ll be here for you.” Kurt said turning around and smiling at Blaine.

Blaine couldn’t help but smile in return. “Thank you.” Blaine said softly.

Blaine couldn’t wait to be friends with Kurt. Never had he met someone so kind, so funny, and so beautiful. Kurt would be the person who understands what it’s like. And Kurt would be there for him.

They could be friends. Maybe more than friends, Blaine hoped.

End Notes: TBC.
