PILOT
‘'Are you enjoying your flight sir?'' politely asked the flight attendant.
Kurt snapped his head around from where he'd been watching out of the window ‘'Yes . Everything's good. Thank you!''
The woman smiled and went on forward.
This was the second time Kurt had ever flown an air plane and he had mixed feelings about the whole thing. It was exciting and new as well as scary and frightening. He was several miles from the ground in a huge metal object apparently, flying. He has spent the whole flight worrying about any air bumps or storms or anything else of that sort. When he went to New York with New Directions there were so many air bumps he seriously considered kissing the ground when they landed. Honestly, he just couldn't wait to finally land on the safe ground the city of Miami.
He was super excited to see his aunt Mildred after many years of just speaking on the phone or talking over skype. He was kind of surprised his father had let him go by himself but he was so thankful. He always had wanted to travel, even though he was afraid of heights but seeing other states, except for Ohio for more than a few days would be amazing. It would've been amazing if they could've spent more time in New York when they went to Nationals too.
Summer had just started and he just didn't want to spend any more time in Lima. He'd been saving money and refused that his father and aunt gave him the money for the flight so he paid most of the price himself. He had gladly worked at his father's shop at the end of spring, finally learning something about cars when his whole life he hadn't been interested really and now he had a different opinion about the whole thing. He wouldn't want to work on cars day after day but it was fun when done rarely.
He also insisted to help and work at his aunt's kiosk slash shop called Milda's, over the time he would spend in her apartment in Miami Beach.
It was a longer flight to Florida than it was to New York so he pushed all his feelings and fears away and fell asleep, taking a short nap.
.....
After getting his suitcases (two large one's because he just couldn't decide on what to bring and didn't know when he'd be able to go shopping) he called the taxi and unfolded a little paper which had his aunt's address written on it, just in case. He kept to fidget and couldn't stand still. He hasn't seen his aunt in forever and he was more than excited to catch up with her as well as see Miami.
Surprisingly it only took about a half an hour to get to the address he gave to the driver. It was pretty late in a Saturday evening and there was some traffic but the drive to the house was shorter than he'd imagined.
Even though the flight was only about two and a half hours long he was exhausted. Firstly, it was very difficult to say goodbye to his father. He knew it would be hard but he felt like his father's grip was getting tighter and tighter every passing second before he left for his flight.
He could tell his father was keeping his tears in and Kurt didn't even bother to try and do the same. He just let them fall. He hasn't really been separated from his father ever in his life and now leaving for the whole summer was weird and unusual, not to mention painful.
It took a lot of emotional stress from him, taking his energy but they promised to chat on Skype and make video calls every day if possible.
Secondly, he was nervous as heck. Even though he'd been planning this trip for a few months, now it felt like a spontaneous decision. He didn't know anyone except for his aunt there. He was sure he wouldn't be bored but he didn't want to be quite alone either. He would be working at the aunt's shop and he was hoping he would make friends with somebody there.
At first, when he got into the taxi, he thought about having a nap but when he actually started to drive through the city he just couldn't close his eyes as he passed the amazing buildings, stores and parks. There were several streets that were full with buildings that were lighted with bright neon lights. He definitely wanted to explore and look around as much as possible. With his aunt or alone. He wasn't the one being afraid from being alone. He was a very independent person but enjoying a city was a whole different story.
Before he even knew it he was at his destination He paid the driver as well as gave him a tip and said ‘thank you' when the driver helped him get his suitcases out of the trunk.
It was a two storey apartment building in Miami Beach colored in light blue and light pink. He had noticed how the colors of most buildings were bright, light or pastel colors. It looked very nice actually.
He stood in front of the gate and exhaled long and loud. There were basically no people outside when he looked around and he was about to go into the gate when he saw a blonde woman hurrying out the building, his direction with a huge smile on her face.
It was his good ol' aunt Mildred.
‘'Kurt!'' she said, her voice sweet and welcoming just as Kurt remembered it from his childhood.
‘'Hey, aunt Mel!'' they hurried to embrace each other tightly and he smiled widely as she rubbed across his back. ‘'I almost didn't recognize you with that blonde hair of yours.''
‘'You like it? I did it last week,'' she touched it and smiled as Kurt nodded. ‘'Gosh I haven't seen you in so long. Let's go inside, I'll help you with the suitcase.''
‘'Good evening ladies!'' they turned around and saw a blonde woman approaching. ‘'So Mildred, is this the nephew you've been talking about, huh?''
Kurt arched his eyebrow at the ‘ladies' part, thinking if he should or shouldn't be offended.
Mildred smiled and placed her palm on Kurt's shoulder, squeezing lightly. ‘'Yes. This is him. Kurt, meet out next door neighbor, Sue Sylvester.''
Kurt extended his hand and smiled politely as the woman, Sue, shook it.
‘'What nice skin you have, Porcelain,'' the woman grinned.
‘'Uh, thank you.''
‘'It was nice seeing you Sue. It's late and we have some catching up to do,'' she took Kurt by his arm and pulled him towards her apartment door lightly.
‘'Don't mind her. She may be rude sometimes but she doesn't do it on purpose. That's just the way she is.'' Mildred told him while unlocking the door. ‘'She has a very nice adopted girl. Her name is Rebecca. She's a big younger than you,'' she continued and they entered the apartment.
It was a nice two bedroom apartment. Not very huge and it didn't have a lot of space but Kurt wondered how his aunt still could afford it. Hummel's weren't the wealthiest so to say. Just as if his aunt had been reading his mind, she told him a little about it as she gave him a tour of the small place.
‘'The shop that you know I have is in Crandon Park. I don't know if you've heard of it or not but it's pretty big and has numerous tennis courts. It's a very beneficial location, actually,'' she said, slowly walking behind Kurt. ‘'At the beginning I didn't think it would be a good idea but I was wrong. Those athletes eat like their life depends on it.''
Kurt laughed and went into the room that was supposed to be his bedroom.
‘'You'll be staying in this room,'' she informed, watching as Kurt looked around. ‘'It's not very fancy and decorated and all that but you may do what you please with it, sweetheart.''
‘'Thank you so much, Mel. Thank you for having me in general. I appreciate everything. The room especially. I didn't even expect to have my own room. I would've been okay with sleeping on the couch.''
He heard a quiet meow from his bed and looked behind him at the cat that was sleeping, his aunt laughing at his startled face. ‘'You have a cat! I didn't know that.''
He sat on the bed and stroked the little one's head, making the kitty purr. ‘'Yeah , I got him a little less than a month ago. I noticed him walking around all the time. He was dirty and skinny so it was obvious he didn't have owners. His name is Coco by the way.''
‘'Hi Coco. Nice to meet you.'' Kurt smiled when the orange cat leaned into his touch.
‘'I made dinner earlier. I know that you're definitely hungry so I'll go heat it and set up the table,'' Mildred informed her nephew. ‘'You can get comfortable, unpack and all that.''
‘'Thank you Mel,'' Kurt thanked her again, as she went out of the room to the kitchen.
Kurt was truly happy. The reunion with his aunt was just what he needed. He was a bit concerned that I'd be a little awkward but everything seemed to go smoothly.
He couldn't wait to see what this summer had to offer.
.....
Kurt didn't know he'd been that hungry before he actually took the first bite of his dinner. He just realized that the whole day went on a rush and he didn't really bother to find time to eat. But the veggie curry was very delicious and he could tell his aunt was a good cook.
‘'Not that I'm not glad that you're here but why did you decide to come to Miami this year?'' his aunt asked while eating their meal.
‘'I have spent most of my summers alone or surrounded by my girlfriends. It's not like it wasn't fun with them, it's just that Rachel has Finn now and Mercedes is dating some jock from my school's football team so I just didn't want to be a third wheel,'' he told her. ‘'Besides , it's nice seeing you. I wonder why we see each other so rarely.''
‘'That's probably my fault. These past few years have been super busy with me opening the shops.''
‘'Wait, you have more than one?''
‘'Yeah. One's by the Crandon park and the other one's in Coral Way, which is one of the areas of Miami you should definitely visit while you're here,'' she said with a smile. ‘'I was lucky to open a shop there so I have two. And they're both on different sides of the city so sometimes I'm stumblin' from one place to the other. You'll be big help.''
Kurt smiled as he took another bite of the curry. In the taxi he had made this plan to save some money from what he would earn at the shop and buy his dad a plane ticket to come here. It would be a great way to say thank you and it never was bad to see your sister anyway. They haven't seen each other in real life just as long as Kurt hadn't.
After they ate, they spent some time in the living room, watching Friends re-runs on the TV and just chatting. They went to bed really late after making plans for the next day.
.....
Sunday morning, both of them didn't bother to get up early. Kurt usually wasn't the one to sleep until noon but he thought he should rest before he would have to wake up early almost every day to work.
They ate breakfast while catching up with each other's lives and then got ready to go out. Mildred took him on a tour around their neighborhood and of the beach, Kurt loved every second. New York would always be first in his eyes but this did beat Lima for sure.
They went back home and took his aunt's car to go to Key Biscayne, to the Crandon park to show Kurt where he'd be working.
She showed him around and introduced him to the few other employees working there and Kurt thought they seemed nice. There were two girls and a guy who mostly worked at the storage.
He felt like it would be quite nice working here.
.....
Blaine woke up Monday morning with a loud groan. He turned off his alarm clock, for which time he'd lost count. He just didn't feel like it was summer break. It has been a week but he still had to get up early almost every day at 6 AM and he wasn't a big fan of that. Today was no exception. He had thought about just ditching and going back to sleep several times this past week but he didn't want to let his best friend's father down. He was too important to him.
He literally rolled out of the bed and went into the bathroom. After washing his teeth he slipped off his dinosaur pyjama pants and went into the shower. For a moment he wondered why the heck was he even showering. He'd be sweaty as a wet bear in about an hour from now anyway.
He groaned when he heard his phone ringing in the bedroom. It was probably Vanessa, understanding her last night's mistake.
He wrapped a towel around his waist and went into the bedroom, seeing that it wasn't the girl but it was his coach who was calling. When he reached for his phone it already stopped ringing so he just sent a text saying he was on his way.
He quickly got dressed in some basic jean shorts and a white t-shirt, grabbing his gym bag with his tracksuit in it and headed downstairs.
He smiled to himself when he saw that the house was quiet. His mom had been waking up with him, insisting that she'd make breakfast and all that jazz and it honestly wasn't necessary. Blaine wanted his mother to just rest once in a while. He grabbed a banana from the kitchen counter and ate it while heading out. He got into his black Audi R8 and tossed the banana peel somewhere next to him by the gear stick.
He sped out of his house to the tennis courts.
.....
He was happy to see his coach was busy with talking to others so he sneaked into the changing rooms and dressed as quickly as possible. He sneaked out again and said hello to a few people from the tennis clubs or the people who just knew him.
He went out of the building and saw his coach not really paying attention to the court. He looked around and searched for Ted, a guy who he had to play with today, but he was nowhere to be seen so for now he practiced solo.
Not long after, the coach saw his player and smirked. He knew Blaine was late but paid no attention to that. He'd done it several times in the past but he didn't mind. The boy was young and waking up this early, especially in summer break, isn't the thing he would most rather do.
‘'Good morning, Blaine,'' he greeted, smiling, slowly walking towards him.
‘'Good morning, Mr. Duval.''
‘'Why are you playing with a wall?''
‘'Well, I thought I was late but as you can see, dear ol' Ted is not here so I have no other-‘'
‘'He's right there,'' his coach pointed to the court right next to the one he was on now. Indeed, Ted was there playing with some girl.
‘'Oh.''
‘'Yeah. Oh.''
Blaine smirked with his charming smile and leaned away slowly, jogging towards the other court.
.....
‘'Hey B!''
Blaine looked over from where he was sitting during his five minute break and got up, going in the direction of his best friend.
‘'Aren't you supposed to be done by now?'' Nick asked after a high five.
‘'Yeah, but I still wanted to get some practice on a one-on-one game. It's still kind of early.''
‘'Fine,'' Nick sighed. ‘'You'll need a ride back or did you drive yourself?''
‘'Nah, I'll call you when I'm done. I have my own ride. Though you could pick me up after I drop off my stuff at my house.''
‘'Okay. Don't over train, please'' Nick said concerned. ‘'Here, I bought you water.''
‘'Thanks, man,'' Blaine took the two water bottles from his friend and took a long gulp. They said goodbye, Blaine going back to his game.
.....
First official day of work was amazing. At first, he was nervous and clumsy because of his nervousness but the other's that worked at the store were really nice and understanding. Especially a girl whose name was Ivy, she was extra helpful and they had some nice conversations.
He didn't really want to work at the cash register just yet so he was okay with putting foods, drinks and other things in places they belonged. The store was kind of like the stores at gas stations, only a bit bigger and with wider selection of items. His aunt told him the previous day, that they have special people to deliver the groceries, for example, the fruits and vegetables, so their fresh. And there even was a baker his aunt's store co-operated with, bringing the shop fresh bagels, donuts cupcakes and other delicious items, which the customers adored, making the store smell amazing.
‘'Hello. Could you please pass me the chocolate brownie?''
Kurt glanced back from where he was putting cans of soda in the shelves to see a blonde teen girl ask him. ‘'Of course.''
The girl was on the shorter side and he was glad to be helpful. He didn't feel ready to quite work at the register yet, Ivy was handling it all well.
‘'Here you go,'' he passed the packaged brownie from the top of the glass showcase.
‘'Thank you, gay face,'' the girl said with a smile and pushed her glasses up her nose.
‘'Excuse me?''
‘'At least be glad your face is prettier than that girl's shoes,'' she pointed to a girl a few feet away who was looking at ice creams.
‘'Flip flops and sandals aren't shoes.''
‘'Yeah,'' she laughed. ‘'See you later, flip flop Kurt,'' she said and walked towards Ivy, at the cash register.
‘'How do you know my name?'' the boy asked confused.
‘'I'm Becky, you nerd.''
Becky? Oh, Rebecca, Sue's daughter. ‘'Like mother, like daughter,'' he murmured to himself and went back to work.
After his shift, which was a few hours shorter than it should be, since it was his first day (Mildred insisted) he decided to walk back home. Besides, his aunt was working and wouldn't be home until later that evening. It was still early in the afternoon so he just put the address of his aunt's apartment building in his phone's GPS and went on.
It was a stunning day and he made a note to go somewhere later. Maybe call his aunt and walk to the shop she was, at the Carol Way.
.....
Blaine sighed as the lukewarm water made contact with his skin. He liked taking a colder shower after his practices and this practice he worked extra hard and long. At least his coach gave him the next two days off so that was nice. Sleep here I come he thought.
He understood why he had to take the practices so early in the mornings. Summers in Florida were pretty intense and it was dangerous to practice for several hours in the hot, humid weather. In the morning it was warm, the sun wasn't quite out yet and he was finished when the sun was up in all its glory.
His coach had given him the option to work in the evening too but that just wasn't his thing.
He quickly dried off and rolled his eyes at his vibrating phone, telling him he had unread messages and calls. He messily got his belongings in his gym bag and headed out.
‘'I'm on my way, Nicholas. Don't go in the water without me.'' Blaine said to his friend through the phone while tossing his bag in the backseat.
.....
Kurt was almost back at the apartment building, few feet away from it and he was quite surprised how short the walk seemed. It was kind of weird walking from the Crandon park back to Miami Beach because he had to walk from one island through the center and then to the other island. But he didn't mind. It was beautiful and he enjoyed the gorgeous views.
He was just by the gate when he heard loud screams coming towards the gate and the next thing he saw was Sue Sylvester chasing his aunt's cat.
‘'You little jerk, I've told you several times not to climb on my balcony. Don't you know-‘'
She had run onto the road and bumped into a black Audi that was driving down the street, the car stopping immediately. She fell backwards and screamed as she felt pain in her arm.
Kurt inhaled loudly and ran up to the woman. ‘'Oh my god, are you okay?''
He heard the car door opening and a man running towards them. ‘'Jesus! Watch where you're going, lady,'' the boy said but there was no real reproof in his voice. More like concern.
‘'Damn you, freakin' Anderson,'' Sue cursed.
Kurt looked up at the guy and had to say he wasn't expecting what he saw. The boy was gorgeous, his age or maybe a tad older. He had shorts and a t-shirt on, a bunch of his dark, untamed curls bouncing on his head. Though it suited him.
‘'Do you need to go to the hospital?'' Kurt asked worriedly when he took his eyes off the boy.
‘'What do you think, genius!?'' Sue screamed and Blaine laughed seeing the other boy roll his eyes. Those eyes were really beautiful actually, bright bluish grey.
‘'Are you her neighbor?'' Blaine asked and Kurt nodded. ‘'Mind taking her with me?''
‘'No, of course not.'' They helped Sue get up and into the back seat of Blaine's car, Kurt getting in the passenger seat.
‘'Nice ride,'' the blue eyed boy said.
‘'Thanks,'' at first Blaine glanced at him a bit weirded out. It didn't seem that a guy like him would know anything about cars.
‘'Oh my god, it smells like a frickin' stink bomb back here. God why do you make me suffer though this!''
Kurt and Blaine shared a glance, holding in their laughter at the woman's words.
.....
Thankfully, the hospital wasn't very busy and they got Sue to a doctor pretty quickly. After getting some coffee they decided to wait for the doctor to say what was the case and sat at the waiting room, where they were alone with two other people.
‘'How does Sure know you?'' Kurt asked after taking first sip of the coffee. ‘'And please don't tell me you've run over her before.''
Blaine chuckled and shook his head. ‘'Everyone knows me.''
‘'Cocky.'' Kurt murmured, making the other boy chuckle again.
‘'No, it's not like that. I'm an athlete and a pretty good one hence the recognition,'' he explained. Hence the sexy body Kurt thought. ‘'I'm Blaine Anderson, by the way.'' Blaine said hoping it would ring some bells to Kurt at who he was. It didn't. Disappointing.
‘'Kurt Hummel.''
‘'It's obvious that you're new here,'' Blaine grinned and continued at Kurt's confused gaze. ‘'Never mind. But are you really new here?''
‘'Yup,'' Kurt nodded and smiled ‘'Got here two days ago. Visiting my aunt. My real home's in Ohio.''
‘'Ohio, huh? I've been there once. To a match.''
‘'You're really pushing it with that ‘athlete' part aren't you?'' Kurt asked with a grin, watching Blaine gulp all of his coffee from the plastic cup. It was so obvious he wanted Kurt to ask what he was playing or doing or other questions related. ‘'I'm not going to ask. You just want to brag.''
‘'Okay, okay. Fine. Than tell me about you!'' Blaine nodded to him with his empty cup.
‘'Well, I work at my aunt's shop at the moment. I'm interested in fashion, music. the arts in general. I go to our school's glee club back in Lima,'' Kurt told him.
‘'Oh, so you're a singer. Fancy.'' Blaine smiled and Kurt narrowed his eyes at the boy. It was hard to tell him if he was speaking sarcasm or what. He snitched the cup from Blaine's hands and got up to expose them.
‘'Flip flops are not shoes by the way.'' Kurt pointed to the black Nike flip flops Blaine was wearing and headed towards the garbage can.
Blaine shook his head and smiled, crossing his arms on his chest. Dang a boy could have a nice ass.
.....
Kurt rolled his eyes for what felt like the hundredth time. Blaine's phone was just bombing with calls and messages. It was seriously getting on his nerves. ‘'You can go, you know. I can wait for Sue and call a taxi to go home after. Seems like people need you.''
‘'No way.'' Blaine shook his head. ‘'I don't want to mess with Sylvester's. Her daughter is gonna kick my ass.''
‘'Becky?'' Kurt laughed. ‘'Yeah, she's a tough one.''
Blaine frowned. ‘'You're a meanie.''
‘'Am not.''
Blaine's phone rung with the theme song of Mr. Bean, Kurt giggled. The guy was such a cornball.
‘'Yes, Jeffery? ...No I won't be there today...Long story...No, no I'm fine... No I won't be mad if you go without me, we have the whole summer. Tell the other guys. Bye!''
Blaine played a game on his phone, making Kurt glance over curiously. ‘'What are you playing?''
‘'Flappy bird,'' Blaine chuckled ‘'I got to download it while it still was available. I'm a pro at it.''
‘'Cocky.''
‘'But I am,'' the boy argued. ‘'I have a high score 67. I got a gold medal.''
‘'67 is not much though.''
‘'Are you implying something here?'' the curly haired boy asked. ‘'Do you want to make a bet?''
Kurt didn't say anything, just smirked so Blaine proposed. ‘'Fine. If you can beat my high score I will-‘'
‘'Buy me an Oreo Milka chocolate.''
‘'That's a stupid thing to bet on but fine. If you win I'll buy you chocolate.''
‘'Oreo Milka.''
‘'Yeah, yeah Oreo Milka.'' Blaine confirmed. ‘'If I win... I get your number and a kiss on the cheek.''
Kurt rolled his eyes. Not gonna happen ‘'Gay.''
‘'Whatever.'' Blaine laughed. ‘'Do we have a deal?''
Kurt exhaled. ‘'Yes.'' What had he gotten himself into?
Blaine handed him he phone and he pressed on the screen to start a new game. ‘'Do you have a boyfriend back in Lima?''
The question got Kurt off guard and the bird crashed into the green pipe when his score was only 4.
‘'Uh... No. Almost did but no.'' Kurt sighed.
‘'Sorry to ask then.'' Blaine said but smiled as Kurt started the second game. Why was he happy about that?
‘'It's okay.'' Kurt assured. ‘'We were hanging out but he was a bit too clingy. I hate to use that word but I just have no other to describe him.''
‘'Sad to hear.'' no it wasn't.
‘'Yes!!!'' Kurt exclaimed as loud as he could in a hospital. Blaine took the phone Kurt tossed in his lap and he looked at the high score. 68! Fucking 68!
‘'Yay!'' the sarcasm was oh so absent in his voice, though he was grinning. ‘'You get your chocolate.''
‘'I'm not leaving though,'' Blaine changed the subject after a moment of silence. ‘'But it wasn't my fault.''
Kurt laughed and punched Blaine in the arm playfully. ‘'Sush, you mother Teresa, queen of innocence. But seriously, I'm sure she won't do anything.''
Blaine smiled and looked at the boy a bit longer. ‘'You wanna hang out later?''
Kurt looked a bit startled at the sudden question and was about to answer when the doctor came to them. ‘'Ms. Sylvester is fine. Her left arm is dislocated but other than that she's okay and doesn't have any serious injury.''
Blaine sighed, relieved and slid down his chair, running his hands down his face.
‘'She insists she will stay at the hospital,'' the doctor informed. ‘'There's no reason though, she's stubborn and doesn't want to check out yet.''
‘'Can we see her before we leave at least?'' hazel eyed boy asked.
‘'Sure. She's in room 12.''
They both went into the room where Sue lay on the bed with a grumpy expression. ‘'Look what you did to me, you Roger Federer wannabe.''
‘'It was hardly my fault,'' Blaine rolled his eyes. ‘'But I'm still sorry.''
‘'Let's make a deal! I won't sue if you take Becky in your gang club or whatever you losers have there,'' she stated.
Blaine groaned and threw his head back. This was the last thing he needed, not that he had anything against Becky, it was that she could be a jerk sometimes. She had been basically stalking them ever since she saw Jeff. She had a weird crush on him.
‘'Fine.'' Jeff's so not gonna like this.
Sue smiled with a victory smile. ‘'You both, milk and chocolate, can go now.''
Kurt lifted his eyebrows at the nicknames but didn't say anything. ‘'See you around Ms. Sylvester. Be better soon.''
Sue ignored him and grabbed her phone, dialing a number. Blaine took Kurt's hand, dragging him to the door. ‘'Bye!''
‘'She can't really sue you, you know.'' Kurt said when they were out the door. ‘'It's not like you did anything, really.''
Blaine shrugged.
‘'Oh, Becky. Thank the gods above and below earth, I have survived. You know that I nearly died today. You could've been scheduling a funeral right now.''
Kurt and Blaine laughed at the woman's words that they heard through the doors and headed to the exit.
.....
Kurt hadn't noticed how fast the time had flew that day. When they came out of the hospital, the sun was barely seenable down by the shore. ‘'Can you take me home please?''
He didn't want to ask, though he didn't know where exactly he was right now and he felt too tired to walk, to be honest.
‘'Of course,'' Blaine answered immediately. He had an evil genius plan. Since Kurt was new here, he didn't exactly know where they were so he could just drive around the city to gain some time and somehow still get Kurt's number. Excellent.
They got into the car and Blaine started driving, a big grin on his face. ‘'Blaine, you're a pig!'' the blue eyed boy gestured to the now dark brown banana peel by the gear stick. ‘'That's just gross.''
‘'What? I left in a hurry this morning. It's not easy being a pro-athlete.''
Kurt chuckled. By now he was pretty curious about what the heck was Blaine doing in the sports field but he isn't going to give him the opportunity to shine more than he already is.
‘'Do you want to go eat something maybe?'' Kurt's stomach grumbled at the question, making them both laugh. ‘'That's a definite yes.''
Blaine knew a casual but cool place that was further away from Miami Beach so he headed just there.
‘'Why are your tassels pink?'' Kurt laughed.
‘'What's wrong with pink?'' Blaine acted offended and Kurt shook his head.
‘'My aunt finishes work soon actually.'' Kurt said when he glanced at the car's clock. ‘'I wonder why she hasn't called.''
He took out his phone and quietly swore under his breath ‘'What is it?''
‘'My phone's dead.''
‘'Shit .'' Blaine cursed. He haven't heard Mr. Bean theme song in a while. He checked all his pockets. ‘'Fuck, I forgot my phone at the hospital.''
Oh fuck really. That meant he didn't have any cash on him either. He didn't take his wallet to practice. He had this phone case that could carry money but his phone wasn't with him.
‘'Blaine, pull over please.'' Kurt pleaded. When Blaine didn't respond or act, he repeated the request a bit louder.
Blaine pulled over next to some bar and Kurt let his head hit the car seat as he sighed. ‘'How far are we from Coral Way''
‘'Pretty far,'' he lied.
‘'Will you take me there please?''
Blaine sighed. Plan over. He turned the key but the car didn't start, making Kurt's eyes wider.
‘'Fuck,'' Blaine swore again though he wasn't so mad about what was happening.
‘'What is it?''
‘'Looks like we're out of gas.''
‘'Are you kidding me? Why are you smiling?'' Kurt asked, getting angry. ‘'This is not funny. My aunt will worry about me. She's probably called me several times. We're somewhere in the middle of Miami, I don't even know where...''
‘'Stop complaining! Don't be such a dweeb!'' Blaine said but realized that it was totally the wrong thing to say. Kurt looked at him with disbelief and got out of the car. ‘'Where are you going?''
‘'Away!'' Kurt said and banged the door closed.
‘'Shit shit shit,'' he got out of the car as well and sighed when he saw Kurt holding out his hand trying to stop a car.
‘'What the hell are you doing?'' he asked loudly bringing attention to the people on the sidewalks but he didn't care. ‘'Don't you know this is dangerous?''
Kurt ignored him and a moment later a car stopped, an older lady driving, smiling at the boy and gesturing him to get in.
‘'Please, don't do this Kurt.''
He was ignored and he only watched the car disappear down the road.
.....
He didn't know how much time had passed. After Kurt left he just sat in his car, his head resting against the steering wheel. He had fucked up. He didn't know why Kurt got upset so quickly. He honestly didn't even say anything that bad. He was just stressing out and acting too dramatically.
But dang he was nervous. As much as he didn't know what to do himself at this situation, knowing that you basically put another person at risk was not a nice feeling. The old lady could be a long wanted serial killer for all he knew.
He jumped in his seat when he heard a knock on his car window. He looked out and he felt like a rock had fallen off his chest. It was Kurt.
‘'Hey! Wh-Are you okay?'' Blaine asked, glancing Kurt up and down.
‘'Yeah .'' Kurt smiled a bit for the concern in the curly haired boy's voice. ‘'I'm sorry for earlier. I overreacted. I wanted to leave you here to figure things on your own but I do have a soul and I came back to help.''
He lightly kicked the metal container of gas, making Blaine smile widely. ‘'Oh my god! Thank you!'' he surged forward and squeezed Kurt tightly.
‘'Hey hey! Easier on the hair!'' Kurt chuckled ‘'Though I'm still a little mad at you.''
Blaine pouted and looked at Kurt with puppy eyes. ‘'Please don't be mad. Puppy Blaine didn't want to be a bad boy.''
Kurt laughed loudly. ‘'You're so weird. Seriously.''
Blaine still stayed with the same expression. ‘'You're forgiven puppy,'' Kurt smiled and ruffled Blaine's hair.
Blaine laughed. ‘'So do you need a ride or...?''
‘'No, I took my aunt's car. I still have to pick her up from work.'' Kurt gestured to it and smiled. ‘'Goodnight.''
Before Blaine could do or say anything else, Kurt was over the street, jumping in the car and driving away.
.....
‘'So how was your first day at work?'' Mildred asked when they drove from Milda's.
‘'It was very good. We actually had a lot of customers. And the donuts there sell out so fast,'' Kurt told and giggled.
‘'Yeah, that's a thing there. Was it a guy with black hair buying all the donuts with the pink glaze?''
Kurt nodded. ‘'Well, expect him almost every day. He and his friends eat donuts like nothing else. Oh and you don't have to work tomorrow, I give you a free day.''
‘'And how was your day in general?''
Kurt smiled at the question.
‘'I heard that Sue's in the hospital.''
‘'Yeah. She has a dislocated arm. I saw the accident happen. But my day was good. Better than I expected actually.''
‘'I know it was,'' his aunt grinned, patting his arm. ‘'Who was that boy you took the gas to, huh?''
‘'He was the one who actually, technically but not really, almost ran over Sue.'' Kurt laughed at the memory.
His aunt looked confused and a big startled so Kurt continued. ‘'Long story. But all in all she was okay, he didn't run over her, she just bumped into the car and fell. Basically, it was her own fault. I'm just happy she's okay. It could've been worse. And about the guy...He isn't anything more than a friend.''
His aunt smiled. ‘'I'm glad you're making friends already, Kurt.''
‘'Me too. Tough I don't know if I'll see him again. All I know is his name.''
‘'Which would be...?''
‘'Blaine Anderson.''
‘'Oh my god, Kurt! You made friends with Blaine Anderson?! Tell me the whole story!''
Kurt laughed but nodded. Her aunt was acting like a teen fangirl. Seriously.
.....
Blaine was smiling the whole way back to his house. He couldn't stop thinking about the boy he met today. He didn't know what was so special about him but he wanted to be his friend really bad.
He thought about his nice hair, perfect butt and ridiculously tight outfit, and passionate hate for flip flops.
He didn't know him long, though his presence made him happy.
What didn't make him happy was his mother's face when he came in through the door.
‘'Do you know what time it is, Blaine?'' she asked, her arms on her hips. ‘'You know I don't have anything against you being home late in summers but I have to be warned.''
Blaine didn't say anything. He just groaned. He forgot to go back to the hospital to get his phone slash wallet.
‘'And are those rumors true? You ran over a lady?''
‘'That's a complete exaggeration. It was hardly my fault.'' Blaine explained to his mom. He hated when she was mad. ‘'She ran into my car and fell. I didn't run over anyone.''
His mother stood silent than continued. ‘'And you know how many times your friends called and came to the house to ask for you? It's just silly.''
‘'You know we're silly, mom.''
Pam Anderson smiled She couldn't be angry at her son for long ‘'I was worried about you. You didn't answer your phone and you didn't come home after practice nor for dinner.''
‘'I know, I'm sorry mom,'' he came closer and hugged her. ‘'I'm super tired. Can I go to sleep please?''
‘'Of course you can,'' she caressed her son's cheek. ‘'But you still are punished. No car for a week, except for going to practice.''
Blaine shook his head and went up the stairs to his room. ‘'Goodnight, mom. I love you!''
‘'I love you too, son.''
.....
Blaine slept like a baby that night and was so happy he didn't have to put an alarm clock for the next morning. He didn't have his phone anyway. His girlfriend was probably going crazy. She was quite protective and got jealous easily but that wasn't what he was concerned about right now, at all.
Usually, it would be his friends waking him up in his practice free days but today, he didn't have anyone calling or texting him. He slept until eleven and got up for just the sake of it.
He smelled pancakes and skipped a shower for now, heading straight downstairs. He was so hungry. He hadn't eaten the whole day yesterday.
‘'Good morning,'' he kissed his mother in the hair and went after a plate and a glass, placing several pancakes on there and pouring in some orange juice. ‘'Is Ricardio home?''
‘'No, he's working,'' she flipped a pancake and sipped from her morning coffee.
Ricardio was his step-father. His parents divorced so long ago he doesn't even remember anymore. But he still kept his father's surname.
‘'Can I go out with my friends today?'' Blaine asked with a full mouth.
‘'Yes you can,'' she answered. ‘'I didn't forbid you to see those nutheads. I know you can't make a day without them.''
Blaine smiled. True. ‘'Just making sure.''
.....
Kurt woke up the next morning alone in the house. It was around nine in the morning and his aunt was at work so he decided to spend his time well and be helpful, doing some laundry and cleaning the kitchen, and living room.
After that he took a shower, he did his skincare routine and got dressed. He didn't have anything to do with his day and yesterday he found out where the other Milda's was located so he decided to head there help maybe and bring his aunt some lunch.
.....
He closed the gate by his apartment building and was startled when he turned around, by one and only Blaine Anderson.
Blaine giggled at Kurt's horrified expression. ‘'Hey!''
‘'Hi! What are you doing here? How do you know where I live?'' Kurt asked. He was glad to see the boy again. He didn't think he would.
‘'Woah, we're not playing 20 questions are we? Slow down,'' he laughed. ‘'I was waiting for you here just like that. I didn't know where you live, though now I know.''
Kurt rolled his eyes. ‘'You've been stalking me all morning?''
Blaine ignored the comment. ‘'And I am here to give you this.'' Blaine held out a box about the size of a book and handed it to Kurt. He opened it up and started to laugh loudly. It was full of Oreo Milka chocolates.
‘'Gosh I had already forgotten about the bet.''
‘'Well, I'm a man to keep his word.'' Blaine held a fist to his chest.
‘'You're ridiculous, you know that?''
‘'I've heard it a few times.'' Blaine smiled. There was a silence for a moment until Blaine spoke again. ‘'Look, I also came to apologize. I should've not been so rude yesterday. I-‘'
‘'It's okay, Blaine. Really.'' Kurt assured closing the box of chocolates. ‘'I was just nervous and I had my protective mode on. I've had much worse, believe me.''
Blaine saddened at that. Why would someone hurt such an amazing dude ‘'Still, it doesn't mean I was very polite and understanding.''
Kurt smiled. ‘'Well thank you.''
‘'So do you want to go to the hospital with me?''
‘'Are you saying you still don't have your phone?'' Kurt laughed when Blaine shook his head. ‘'Sure, I have a few hours to spare.''
‘'By the way, I wasn't stalking.'' Blaine cleared out when they started walking. ‘'Okay, I was a little but that doesn't count. I was just waiting for you to come out from one of the buildings for some time.''
Blaine smiled at Kurt's cute giggles. He loved hearing that sound.
