He threw his bag on the floor and fell onto his bed. His secret was out. Kurt Hummel, the love of his life had just stood their staring at him, no expression on his face as Blaine had broken down right in front of him, Sebastian throwing back his head laughing as the hobbit nerd burst into tears. The whole school would know about his crush by tomorrow, the warblers probably wouldn’t allow him back in. There was nothing left at Dalton for Blaine anymore.
He whipped his face of his pillow. Someone was outside. Blaine groaned and walked towards the door…just as Harvey came rushing in. “Ha! You should hear the stuff that’s going round about you! Got a little crush on Hummel have you Blainey? Why didn’t you tell me? Thought roommates were meant to tell each other stuff!” Blaine mumbled that he would if Harvey wasn’t always sneaking out of Dalton. “What? Stop mumbling Blaine. Get a grip and go back down there and confront that Smythe. He’s the one spreading stuff” then the boy turned around and walked out the door, no doubt going to meet one of his girlfriends.
Blaine sighed. Harvey was right. Harsh but right. There was no point him sitting there feeling sorry for himself, he’d have to face the music. ‘What could I say to explain myself?’ Thoughts whirled around Blaine’s head. He could try and convince them that the song brought back bad memories or was played and at a family members funeral. Yeah, like they were going to believe that. At least he had something to cover himself. Blaine walked down the spiral staircase slowly, his heart beating so fast he thought it was going to explode. What was Kurt going to say to him? What about Sebastian? Nick? Jeff? He reached the door to the warblers practise room. He could hear muffled voices. Well, this would definitely be the most embarrassing moment in his life.
As he entered the large room silence fell on the rest of the Warblers as they all immediately turned to stare at him. At that moment Blaine realised there was no going back, he had to admit the truth. As he walked into the centre of the room Sebastian stuck his foot out, tripping Blaine up. The Warblers screamed with laughter as Blaine fell to the floor, he felt tear spring to his eyes but as he looked up he saw Kurt, who was sitting on the sofa opposite him. Kurt was looking at Blaine as if he had never seen him before; his eyes were filled with pain and fear. It was this look that gave Blaine an inch more of courage. He stood up and looked around at the boys who treated him like he was nothing but a freak, and then he looked at the boy he loved more than anyone in the world, who was still staring at him in the same way. Blaine walked over to the piano and sat down; he cleared his throat and began to play. After a few bars his beautiful voice began to fill the room.
‘For you, there’ll be no more crying, for you, the sun will be shining, and I feel that when I’m with you, it’s alright, I know it’s right’ Blaine didn’t dare look up, but the laughter had certainly stopped. ‘To you, I’ll give the world, to you, I’ll never be cold, ‘cause I feel that when I’m with you, it’s alright, I know it’s right.’ His heart was beating so fast he was surprised it hadn’t burst right out of his chest, and his checks felt pink but he had to carry on, he couldn’t stop now. ‘and the songbirds are singing like they know the score’ now he did look up, right into Kurt’s deep green eyes ‘ and I love you, I love you, I love you, like never before’.
Silence. The whole room went cold. All Blaine could see were gaping mouths. Then someone clapped. Sebastian. “Well, well, well nerd. Not just into chess are we. Tell me, is Kurt your favourite subject now? I must say Anderson you hid that voice well. Shame you couldn’t hide your feelings for Hummel”. Blaine’s face flushed a deeper shade a red. Kurt just sat there. Head down, not letting Blaine look into his gorgeous green eyes now.
Blaine sighed; time to stand up for yourself he thought. “Look Sebastian I don’t know what your problem is with me. I haven’t done anything wrong to you so why do you make it your main priority to humiliate me. I just wanted to sing something that showed how I feel at the moment. I wanted my chance to sing a beautiful song to a beaut….” Blaine stopped. Where was all this coming from? Sebastian’s face was slowly dropping. “You wanna lead us to sectionals. Fine. That’s alright with me. I just wanted my go, I’ve waited long enough, standing back here watching you. I thought Kurt was meant to be our leader?” Kurt’s head snapped up at the sound of his name. He looked Blaine straight in his delicate hazel eyes. Blaine wasn’t quite finished yet however; “I thought Dalton had a zero tolerance bullying policy…bullshit!” A few gasps popped up from around the room. No one had ever seen angry Blaine. “Ever since I joined the Warblers most of you have laughed at me. Tripped me, pushed me. Yeah, you might not have meant to but still, who cares right, he’s only Blaine the nerd, he won’t care. So now I’ve had my rant you can all go back to practising with Kurt as your leader. Only he can lead us to victory not him” pointing a finger at Sebastian, and with that Blaine stormed out the room.
Another awkward silence. Sebastian’s mouth was still wide open. Jeff, Nick and Trent were sitting on the sofa, eyes nearly popping out. Kurt was the only warbler that wasn't gaping. He knew what Blaine had said was true. He also knew that he had been a complete arse to Blaine, pretending he didn’t know about the brown eyed boy’s feelings for him. He also had a secret of his own to tell Blaine. He slowly got up and walked out of the room after Blaine, feeling a sea of eyes on him. It was time Kurt Hummel came clean as well.
Blaine ran down the corridor, feeling warm, salty tears falling down his cheek. He had to get away, get away from that room, from the warblers, from Kurt. He had to escape. He had just reached the library when he heard a shout behind him. ‘Blaine!’ Kurt’s smooth voice travelled down the hallway, Blaine stopped in his tracks but couldn’t bring himself to turn around, what did Kurt want? To laugh at him? To embarrass him further? But what Kurt wanted was neither of those things. Kurt caught up with Blaine and grabbed his arm, forcing him to turn round.
‘What do you want Kurt? I’m sorry for embarrassing you, but I had to get my feelings out in the open, I know you will never feel the same way, but I love you Kurt, I love you, I always have and I always will, you’re my everything. I know you’re the most popular guy in the school and I’m just the weird short kid in the corner that no one notices, but maybe one day you’ll see through my mask and realise that I’m not that different, really I’m not-‘ he went to carry on but Kurt stopped him, by grabbing his waist and pulling him closer, he then very softly kissed Blaine on the lips. They stood like that for what seemed like a life time, and then Kurt pulled away and said almost in a whisper,
‘Blaine, I saw past the mask the moment I met you, and I’ve loved you ever since, I just didn’t know how to tell you. I don’t care if you’re a ‘nerd’, I love you for who you are.’
Blaine didn’t know what to say. He was completely gob smacked, how could Kurt have felt this way all this time? He finally managed to stammer out
‘what about Sebastian?’
‘what about him?’ replied Kurt ‘I’ve never cared about him at all, I couldn’t never feel the way I feel about you with anyone else. I love you.’
And then they kissed again.
