Blaine picked up his bag, wiped the dust off of his trousers and walked into the room, where Kurt was already standing, looking completely gorgeous, about to begin his song.
Blaine sighed. Here goes another heart breaking practise he thought to himself as he went and sat down on the sofa. He looked over to see Kurt joking around with Trent, Nick and Sebastian, something he would never get to do. He would also never get to sing at sectionals, but that didn’t really matter to him. All he wanted to do was sing a duet with Kurt. Just one. That would be enough for Blaine; he could happily stand back doo-wopping for the rest of his school life. “Bang, bang” David banged the warbler hammer on the table. Everyone looked up smiling, ready to sing and dance. Blaine just sat there, the same hurt expression on his face. It wasn’t as if he didn’t like being in the warblers, he loved it! Ever since he was young he would perform in front of his mother and father. His mother often clapped and cheered, proud of her talented son, Blaine’s father however was different. He often questioned Blaine on why he wasn’t out playing with the other boys and instead reading, singing and learning dance routines in his bedroom. Of course he knew Blaine was gay long before Blaine had sat both his parents down and told them. He still thought however that fixing cars and building stuff might make Blaine think about his sexuality. Blaine smirked as he remembered his fathers flushed face as he told him that fixing cars wasn’t going to knock the gay out of him. No, Blaine had always known that he wanted to perform so when he transferred to Dalton Academy and found the warblers in the middle of ‘Uptown girl’ he knew he belonged there. That was until Smythe had laughed a good 5 minutes after Blaine mumbling if he could join in. “Haha I think you have the wrong room, nerd, chess clubs next door!” Blaine could feel his flash brightening now just thinking about it. That was when he had first laid eyes on Kurt…he was the only one not laughing in the room.
Blaine was dragged out of his day dream by David commanding silence by banging the hammer again. He looked abruptly up to see Kurt moving to the centre of the room as the rest of the Warblers took their seats ready to listen. As Kurt opened his mouth to sing, Blaine’s heart gave a leap as Kurt’s eyes suddenly became fixed upon his own.’ it’s a little bit funny, this feeling inside. I’m not one of those who can easily hide’ sang Kurt, his beautiful voice filling the room. ‘I don’t have much money, but boy if I did, I’d buy a big house where we both could live.’ Blaine stared into his eyes until suddenly as though he’d just realised what he was doing, Kurt switched his stare to Sebastian instead, who smiled gleefully. ‘And you can tell everybody, this is your song, it may be quite simple but now that it’s done’ As Kurt got to the chorus Blaine felt like his heart was in pieces , for one moment he and Kurt had shared something, a deep feeling that Blaine has never experienced before, but it was over. ‘I hope you don’t mind, I hope you don’t mind, that I put down in words, how wonderful life is now you’re in the world’. Kurt kept eye contact with Sebastian until the music stopped and then he smiled his breath-taking smiled. The Warblers immediately began to cheer but Blaine couldn’t, he couldn’t move at all, he just sat there staring at Kurt as tears sprung to his eyes. He only came out of his trance when Jeff walked passed and accidently hit his head with his bag, then Blaine stood up and walked away from the boy he loved, feeling worse than he had ever done in his whole life. The next day at rehearsals Blaine couldn’t even bring himself to look at Kurt, his heart ached so much when he thought of him, and of the second they had shared yesterday. But to Kurt that was nothing, Blaine reminded himself, I’m just a useless nerd who no one cares about especially not Kurt Hummel, Kurt Hummel will NEVER care about me. Then Blaine broke down in tears and ran from the choir room, ignoring the laughter coming from the rest of the warblers as they saw him run.
