After the embarrassing serenade-gone-wrong, the Warblers decided to check on how Kurt was doing. They saw a boy in an amazingly tight, yet straight-looking outfit. Even the straight guys in the group of boys were gawking. How did sweet, innocent, baby-faced Kurt turn into a... hottie?
Kurt seemed unaware of the Warblers' presence as the Latina girl who had a death-grip on his arm led him towards the escalators, Kurt tugging along about five large shopping bags with his free hand. The seventeen Warblers waited for Kurt to notice them, but instead, just got ran over by him. Kurt looked wide-eyed and shocked as he dusted his outfit off.
"W-Warblers?" Kurt mumbled, clutching onto the girl's hand.
The Latina elbowed him and hissed, "Kurtalicious! What if H&M guy was listening? Talk in your butch voice!"
Kurtalicious? Butch voice? Who was the girl trying to turn Kurt into?
Kurt rolled his eyes and spoke in a tone of voice nearly as deep as Thad's, shocking nearly all of the Warblers, "Hey guys, how did it go- wait, where's Blaine?"
"Out talking with Jeremiah." Nick answered gruffly, "Didn't look too good."
Nick put it nicely, instead of saying what Luke would've said, "He's being brutally rejected, bitch."
"Oh." Kurt looked torn between two unidentifiable emotions, so he took on a neutral, 'I'm-kind-of-disappointed-I-guess' face.
Blaine approached with his head ducked as Wes patted his shoulder, "It's okay, man." Wes whispered to him, so that none of the other people in the area could hear.
"Dude, what the hell is up with your voice?" Jeff asked, baffled, "It's all low and shit."
The other boys were currently wondering something similar, as Kurt opened his mouth and closed it.
"Personally, I think it's hot." Santana purred as Kurt wrapped an arm around her waist and she rested her head on his shoulder.
Blaine glanced up and did a double-take, "Wha-Kurt?" Was that Kurt? His Kurt?
Blaine struggled with his inner thoughts. Don't be stupid. I don't have any claim to Kurt. But I should. Why is he letting her touch him, like that? He's mine! Back off, bitch. Wait, I just got shot down by someone else. Why am I staking my claim to him? Is it because he's really, really, really hot, right now? He's pretty, too. Stop staring into his eyes! He'll think I'm being creepy- oh wait, no, he's too preoccupied with the girl holding onto him for dear life, to worry about his best friend. Are those abs? Oh, the things I wish I could lick underneath those clothes... Wait! Be dapper! Crap, what just happened. Oh, right, I just got hard by thinking about the things I would do to my best freaking friend. Oh shit, he's looking this way. Think of dead puppies... That's not working! Rachel Berry! In lingerie! And... Quinn Fabray in lingerie. Getting it on. Ewwww!
Kurt nodded, "That's me." He continued in his deep voice, "Santana thinks I'm more straight when I talk like this."
Blaine let out a sigh of relief that his best friend hadn't noticed Blaine's painfully hard erection, and that it had quickly died down, before he could.
Santana nibbled on the skin beneath Kurt's ear as he attempted to muffle a moan. "Santana! Cut that out! We're in public!"
Blaine cocked his head, forcing a plastic smile. Why did he almost moan? He's not... attracted to her, is he? No, it just hurt Kurt. That's why he moaned.
Santana drew back as the Warblers exchanged surprised glances with each other. What the hell? When Kurt had agreed to be a fake boyfriend, he wasn't supposed to engage in sexual activity with the girl he was supposed to be the boyfriend of.
Thad glanced at Blaine's face, looking halfway normal, because of Blaine's 'I'm-pretending-to-be-dapper-so-I-don't bite-your-head-off' smile and red tinged face.
"Aww, don't be such a kill-joy, Hummel. We are going to make out on our date tonight, right?"
Blaine saw red. Kurt? Make out? With a girl? Blaine would've normally laughed at that, but the mental image of Kurt making out with anyone that wasn't Blaine drew out the green monster in him.
Kurt furrowed his eyebrows, "Er, actually the Warblers and I are going to perform, and-"
Yes, that's right, Kurt. We're going to perform, so you can't make out with her. You can make out with me, all you want, though.
"Shut it, K. I wants my Hummel on, and I wants it on tonight." She started in a threatening voice, "You. Me. The backseat of your Navigator, tonight."
Kurt gulped, "Uh... Um.. Okay, I guess."
Blaine tilted his head and furrowed his eyebrows. WHY? But most of important all, why was he getting - dare he say it? - jealous over Kurt?
Santana pecked him on the cheek, "Knew you would cave, honey. Now excuse us, Garglers, we have to meet the other girls for lunch.""Ah, wait! Guys, I'll serenade her in the center of the mall - near the Starbucks- in about a half an hour, if you guys wanted to watch. Then, I'll go slap stupid-hair guy for you, Blaine."
Blaine's lips quirked up at the nickname and at the sentiment as Santana dragged Kurt upstairs. He chuckled slightly at the nickname that Kurt had given... dammit, who did Blaine just serenade? Blaine's mind came out blank as he stared after Kurt longingly.
"Dude, are you okay?" Wes asked Blaine who was staring off into space, a blank look on his face. Blaine started thinking everything over, while he remembered Jeremiah's name and did something he had never considered doing for Jeremiah: He thought things over.
Why am I jealous? Do I have deeper feelings than friendship for Kurt? No, I can't- we're just friends. But, then again... Is that why I was having R rated fantasies about him? Do I... Like him? I mean, I only knew Jeremiah for like three weeks... I've known Kurt for months. He knows nearly everything about me. He told me about Karofsky. He trusts me. Okay, I have to be sure about this. What do I like about him? Let's just make a list. I like his laugh. I like his strength. I like his courage. I love his fashion. I love his sarcasm. I love how he blushes every time I hold his hand. I love his angelic voice. I love how his eyes sparkle when he gets a new Vogue magazine. I love his passion for what he believes in. I love his taste in music. I love the color of his eyes... Their just a mixture of blue, grey and green. I love how beautiful he is, inside and out. I love how he nervously chuckles, when he's embarrassed. I love his cute roll-of-the-eyes when I try to speak French. I love his confusion when we're studying Chemistry, and how he furrows his eyebrows in the most adorable way. I love how close he is with his family. I love his belief that 'fashion has no gender'. I love his little smirk whenever he's right about something- and holy shit, I'm in love with him.
"Yeah." Blaine sighed, "I just realized something."
"And what's that? That the guy you're 'in love with' rejected you?" Noah asked bitterly, "I know how that feels." He mumbled under his breath, earning a glare from Luke, Reid staring off to space, completely oblivious. Blaine inwardly cringed. He and Kurt had spent late nights gossiping about their love triangle.
"No." Blaine cocked his head and smiled lightly, "I think I like Kurt. I might even love him." He sighed dreamily.
All of the Warblers exchanged worried glances as David took on the job of bursting Blaine's bubble, "Uh, Blaine? You just serenaded Jeremiah. You said you were in love with him. Kurt just had a girl all over him, telling him about when and where they were going to hook up."
"So?" Blaine asked, his face a perfect picture of bliss, "I didn't love Jeremiah: he was just a distraction." At all of the puzzled looks on his teammates' faces, he explained, "I was always in love with Kurt, but I was afraid he didn't need a relationship, so I friend-zoned him. Oh my God, wait-"
"What?" The slightly annoyed group of boys chorused.
"What if he doesn't reciprocate? I shouldn't tell him- no, I should! If I don't, then I'll never get over him-"
"Uh, Blaine?" Kurt's roommate, James started, "You shouldn't profess your seemingly undying love for your best friend."
"Why not?" Blaine's smile faded.
"Duh, Blaine, you've already broken his heart once, by singing to that weird, hippie-looking guy-"
"I'm not going to break his heart, ever again." Blaine stated confidently, "If he does like me in that way-"
"Blaine. Kurt's in love with you. I've heard him talking on Skype with his friends." James looked agitated.
"Really?" Blaine asked, eyes widening and a smile gracing his lips as he stood up and started to walk towards where Kurt and Santana had left.
"Blaine. Look at it this way: You think you're in love with Kurt, because Kurt's suddenly changed how he looks-"
"That's not true!" Blaine practically yelled at Kurt's roomie, "I love everything about him- his laugh, his smile, his eyes, the way he snorts when I say something funny, his hair, how his face lights up when talking about his friends, his love for fashion, his passion about what he believes in, his wittiness, his-"
Most of the Warblers looked impressed, whereas James looked more irritated, "Blaine, I get that. I really do. But what if you decide that you like this Kurt better than the one we all know. Huh? What if you just get his hopes up and break his heart, again? Just- I care about Kurt. My girlfriend does too, and I'm sure she'd agree. Just spend a few weeks thinking about your feelings to make sure."
Blaine looked defeated, "Okay." Blaine knew he was completely in love with Kurt. In ten years, he saw Kurt and himself living together, in New York, married, with two children. He saw them growing old together. He then realized that he had to just wait a while.
The boys all idly wasted their time by going to a few of the shops, trying on clothes. When Lucas tried to buy a kazoo, David practically jumped him, screaming at him and causing them to all be banned from Banana Republic for a months time.
"How about we go see Kurt perform, now?" David suggested, murmurs of agreement spurring them to keep walking.
"So- Ooh, look! There they are!" The Warblers heard a girl with blue highlights in her hair squeal, as they all hesitantly walked towards the calm hallway, spotting Kurt and the girls, almost immediately.
The girl they had figured out to be Santana nodded to whatever Kurt had said, as Rachel mused at something, causing Santana to give her a bitch glare.
Santana nodded at Kurt, who caught James' eye and nodded, mouthing, 'It's starting.'
The Warblers all bounced slightly, curious as to what romantic song Kurt would choose. It had to be a ballad, because Kurt wanted and lived for romance. Blaine smirked a little as the Warblers talked amongst themselves, throwing song suggestions. Blaine knew that Kurt was going to surprise everyone with whatever song he selected.
"Do you think he's going to sing 'Your Song' to her?" Andrew asked.
Reid shook his head, "Probably 'I'll Cover You'. Or 'I'm Yours'?"
Noah naturally disagreed to whatever Reid said, "No way, he's going to sing 'Grenade' or 'You're Beautiful'."
Kurt placed a boombox that Santana had brought down there, with a CD of the songs that she had elected for Kurt to serenade her with.
Kurt grabbed the attention of the shoppers, by cocking his head back and forth. He started towards Santana, who was smiling deviously.
"There she goes
My baby walks so slow
Sexual tic-tac-toe
Yeah I know we both know
It isn't time, no
But could you be m-mine?"
Kurt stared at her with puppy-dog eyes, and a small yet sexy pout. The Warbler's jaws all dropped. Even though Blaine was expecting something like this, he hadn't expected Kurt to just be so... perfect.
"We'll never get too far
Just you, me and the bar
Silly menage a trois, sometimes"
He winked at Santana, causing her to giggle, and for Blaine to shift uncomfortably. He should be singing that to me. Blaine just focused on how sexy Kurt was being, and his jaw dropped, again. Kurt spun around in a perfect 180 turn, Brittany, Lauren and Tina backing him up. He caught Blaine's eye as a few onlookers started harmonizing, out of the blue, some with cameras. Blaine looked shocked - as all of the Warblers did- at Kurt's sassy and rough voice. Kurt got onto one knee as he kissed Santana's hand.
"Would you be m-mine?
Would you be m-mine?
Would you be m-mine?"
Kurt hit unbelievable notes as Rachel and Mercedes started singing in the background. Wes nodded, taking note of Kurt's range.
"Oh baby, light's on
But your mom's not home
I'm sick of laying down alone, hey
With this fever, fever, yeah
My one and own
I wanna get you alone
Give you fever, fever, yeah"
Kurt lifted both eyebrows in a suggestive movement as he spun around Santana, singing into her ear. Blaine's lip twitched, wishing that Kurt would just hug him, kiss him and whisper sweet nothings into his ear.
"There it goes
You stole my soul and so
'Cause, sweetheart
No-no-nobody a-kno-kno-knows me
Or can find
Time to be m-mine, mine"
Kurt shrugged and tilted his head slightly as he pulled Santana's hips into his. Blaine growled, earning a chuckle from Thad.
"Lets get inside your car
Just you, me and the stars
Kind of menage a trois, sometimes"
Brittany got a few of her dancing class friends to come, so they all had an incredible choreography planned out.
"Would you be m-mine?
Would you be m-mine?
Would you be m-mine?"
Rachel's face was one of pure comedic relief. Blaine would've giggled, but was too busy burning a hole into Santana's head.
"Oh baby, light's on
But your mom's not home
I'm sick of laying down alone, hey
With this fever, fever, yeah
My one and own
I wanna get you alone
Give you fever, fever, yeah"
Kurt stopped on one knee as a group of approximately 200 shoppers applauded.
"San, honey. The reason I've been so distant for the past few weeks was only because I've been planning this. I can only hope that you'll forgive me and you'll just be you, because you are the sweetest, hottest, wittiest, most talented and smartest girl I've ever met. I am blessed to have you in my life, and I just-" Kurt's voice cracked with unshed tears, due to his acting skills, "I just love you."
Blaine felt his eyes well up with tears. He wanted Kurt to say that to him. He wanted to say that to Kurt. He wanted to make Kurt happy.
A few girls in the audience 'aww'ed as Santana blinked and a tear rolled down her cheek, "Kurt... I love you, too." Santana swiftly nodded as Kurt stood up and grabbed her into his arms.
She latched her arms around his neck and her legs around his waist as she smashed her lips against his.
Blaine glared at the couple as Kurt got really into the kiss. Blaine was about to step forward and break it up, but when Andrew put his hand on Blaine's shoulder and shook his head, Blaine calmed himself.
Whoops and cat-calls emerged from the audience as Santana began clawing her hands up Kurt's shirt, mumbling, "Let's continue this later," Just loud enough so that the audience could hear. Kurt set her down and glanced at the Warblers.
"So..." Kurt started in his deep voice, "What did you all think?"
Before Blaine could stop himself, he committed word-vomit.
Before thinking, Blaine said what he said next.
Something that sent Kurt into a surprised shock.
"I love you."
