(Song: Murder In The City // The Avett Brothers)

Blaine sat in Physics writing out the lyrics to the song he’d sing in his audition later. He’d brought his guitar with him this morning, hoping that the fact he could play some instruments would help him win the glee club over.

The bell rang and Blaine made his way to the music room where Kurt said they could practice. Kurt was already there, sitting at the table with headphones in his ears, and a coffee in his hands.

‘Ah, finally’ Kurt said, turning off the music and taking his headphones out, ‘I had a free period, I’ve been waiting for aaaaages’

Blaine just smiled, ‘Ah well I’m here now’ Blaine took his guitar of his back and sat on the chair opposite Kurt.

‘Okay let’s hear it’ Kurt said.

‘You can’t rush this sort of talent’ Blaine replied, tuning his guitar. Kurt snorted, and fiddled with the lid of his coffee cup.

Blaine had spent ages deciding on what song to sing. He wanted to avoid the broadway route, because that was Rachel’s thing and he didn’t want to be accused of ‘stealing’ something from her again. Blaine finally decided to sing a song he loved, and hope that the Glee club would like it.

‘What are you singing?’ Kurt asked

‘Erm, it’s a song by my favourite band.’ Blaine said, putting the capo on the 3rd fret, ‘It’s a bit different’.

Blaine started singing, ‘If I get murdered in the city, don’t go revenging in my name, one person dead from such is plently, no need to go get locked away…’

Kurt had heard the song before, but didn’t know it that well. Blaine’s fingers slid across the frets with ease, and his voice was powerful yet soft.Kurt hadn’t really heard Blaine singing properly before. He’d heard him sing along quietly to the radio, but this was different.

Kurt could feel himself starting to cry, and he wanted to hit himself. It’s just this song was so beautiful, and Blaine’s voice was just wonderful and he couldn’t help it.

‘Always remember, there is nothing worth sharing

Like the love that let us share our name’ Blaine finished.

‘Oh god, that’s not a good sign’ Blaine said, leaning the guitar against the table and rushing over to Kurt’s side, ‘Come here’ he whispered.

Kurt stood up and let himself get wrapped up in Blaine’s arms

‘I’m sorry’, Kurt mumbled into Blaine’s neck, ‘It was just really good’

‘It’s alright’ Blaine replied, ‘As long as it wasn’t my terrible voice that brought you to tears’

Kurt pulled away, ‘Shut up’ he smiled. Blaine was just staring back at him with those stupid eyes of his that made Kurt want to just kiss him.

Wait. Kurt wanted to kiss him. Blaine’s smile faltered, ‘Are you ok-’ he was interuppted as Kurt stepped forward and lightly kissed Blaine’s lips.

It wasn’t anything special, just a soft kiss. But then again, it was so much more than that. Blaine wrapped his arms around Kurt once more, and sighed in to the kiss.

Kurt pulled away, ‘Sorry’ he sighed, running his fingers through his hair, ‘I shouldn’t have done that’

‘Please don’t say sorry’ Blaine replied, ‘Please don’t regret that’

‘We shouldn’t be doing this’ Kurt mumbled, ‘You’re Rachel’s brother’

‘Is that all I am to you? Her brother?’ Blaine asked, obviously upset.

‘Of course not.’

‘I care about you Kurt’ Blaine sighed, ‘I care about you a lot. And if you hadn’t of kissed me, I would’ve kissed you. I’ve wanted to do that for..a long time.’ Blaine picked up his guitar, and turned around, ‘but if all I am to you it’s Rachel’s goddamn brother then maybe we shouldn’t be doing this’

‘Blaine don’t’ Kurt begged.

‘I’m such a fucking idiot’ Blaine mumbled, walking out of the classroom.

————-

Blaine didn’t meet Kurt after school liked they’d plan for a final practice. Instead, Blaine sat in his car and smoked a cigarette, trying to decide whether or not it was a good idea to audition for Glee. Fuck it, he’d already learnt the song and he wasn’t going to let Kurt or Rachel stop him.

He threw the cigarette out the window and got his guitar from the trunk.

Everyone was already in the choir room when he walked in, including Kurt who was sitting on his own in the corner.

‘Blaine, right?’ the teacher asked, ‘Mr Schue.’ he said walking over and shaking Blaine’s hand. ‘We’ve heard a lot about you’

Blaine just smiled, he wasn’t in the mood for small talk especially not with this guy.

‘I’ve got an audition song’ Blaine offered.

‘Brilliant’ Mr Schue said clasping his hands together, ‘Let’s hear it’ he walked over and sat in the front row next to Rachel. Rachel smiled at him and gave him a thumbs up.

Blaine stood in the middle of the room and slung his guitar over his neck.

‘Er, this is one of my favourite songs, it’s a bit different from the stuff I usually do but I hope you like it’

Kurt tried not to look at Blaine because he knew he’d get upset again. It wasn’t that he regretted the kiss, that wasn’t it at all. He just didn’t know how to feel. Okay, so he had a crush on Blaine. He’d admit that. But he was Rachel’s brother, and Kurt knew that Rachel would go mental. Also, Blaine was new at this school and the last thing he’d need is to be associated with Kurt. It wouldn’t help him. Kurt just didn’t know how to feel, and Blaine singing that stupid song, with his stupid voice and those stupid eyes was not helping him.

Blaine finished the song, and everyone clapped. ‘Welcome to New Directions’ Mr Schue smiled and patted Blaine on the back.

The rest of rehearsal went as normal, with Rachel singing a solo and a discussion for songs that should be sung for regionals. Rachel stayed behind to talk to Mr Schue about just which solo’s should be hers, so Blaine made his way out to the car.

‘I’m sorry’ a voice from behind him said.

Blaine turned around a Kurt was standing there with his arms crossed against his chest.

‘Look I’m really sorry’ Kurt sighed and stepped towards Blaine, ‘Please don’t think that I regret.. kissing you.’

‘What was so wrong then? I’ll remind you of the fact that you kissed me’ Blaine said, turning round and shutting the trunk.

‘I know, it’s just..’ Kurt was finding it difficult to explain all of this, ‘You don’t want this to go any further, trust me’

‘Don’t tell me how I feel’ Blaine said.

‘You’re new here, and I’m not a good person to be hanging around with’

‘Kurt’ Blaine sighed, ‘I really like you, okay? I don’t care what anyone else thinks. I kind of want this to go further, you know? I just thought you might have liked me or something, which was stupi-‘

‘I do’ Kurt interrupted, ‘I mean I do like you’

Blaine was obviously confused, ‘then what’s the problem exactly?’

‘Your sister will go mental’ Kurt explained.

‘She doesn’t have to know just yet.’ Blaine said, ‘Can’t we go back to how we were earlier’ Blaine took Kurt’s hand and said, ‘I kind of miss us, I mean it hasn’t even been a day and it’s silly and everything’

‘I know’ Kurt smiled, ‘Me too’

Kurt leaned in, and Blaine hugged him tightly. ‘I’m sorry for storming out’

‘It’s alright’ Kurt replied.

‘All’s forgiven?’ Blaine asked

‘Well hey, that’s what friends are for right?’ Kurt joked.

‘Friends don’t make out Kurt’ Blaine pulled away and smiled at him.

‘I guess we’re not friends then’ Kurt smiled back.

‘Guess not’. Blaine mumbled leaning in a kissing Kurt again.
