"This stuff is a nightmare," Kurt complained. He was sat crossed legged on his bed with damp hair, wearing a overly large navy tee and fraying gray shorts. Blaine was totally not staring at the pale, lean never ending legs that were exposed to the world. Kurt should really wear shorts more often.

"What's a nightmare?" He asked, running a towel through his curls; still dripping from his shower.

"This!" Kurt exclaimed, holding up his hand for a second before stared at it intently himself, "The pollen."

"You seem a lot more cheerful," Blaine noticed as Kurt tried to get the yellow substance out from under his neatly filed nails.

Kurt paused and looked up at him, "Well I'm not getting married anymore, I feel like the door to my cage is opening a little bit."

"True."

"Am I not allowed to be cheerful?" Kurt raised an eyebrow as Blaine finished drying his hair.

Blaine's own bushy eyebrows shot up in response, "Of course you are, I'm just...surprised."

"Why?"

"I thought you'd be more...I don't know...scared?" Blaine shrugged, "I'm glad you're happy though."

"I am a little bit. I mean I still have to wake up and face the consequences of my actions tomorrow. But for now I'm just going to concentrate on the positive, that I'm not marrying someone I don't care for in that way."

"But you do care for him?"

"Yes. He's a good guy, a friend, but he could never be anymore than that to me."

Blaine nodded, satisfied with the answer and brushing the curls from his eyes.

Kurt paused and tilted his head to the side slowly, "Are you okay?"

"I'm just scared of your Dad," Blaine admitted, "What if he chucks me out of the Palace?"

"He won't," Kurt shrugged and lounged back on the bed, patting the space beside him.

Blaine watched the action of Kurt's hand and shook his head, "Er, maybe I should just sleep in the Slavery."

Kurt frowned, folding his arms across his chest and tucking his knees under his chin, "Why?"

"Because your Dad knows! It's just...weird," Blaine shuddered, "I just want to be in his good books as much as possible to counterbalance the bad."

"Blaine Anderson get your butt over here. If he didn't want you in here he would have said something," Kurt pointed out, patting the space again and looking at his boyfriend pointedly.

"What if it's a test? He's testing if I'll sleep here or if I...I...I'm reading too much into this aren't I?" Blaine blushed, scratching the back of his head and looking at the floor.

Kurt chewed his lip to hide a smile, "Maybe a little bit."

Blaine dropped his hand, letting it swing dramatically by his side, "Okay. I need you to protect me from Sky killing me in cold blood anyway."

"I will do so gladly," Kurt winked, "Now come here and cuddle me."

Blaine smiled and rolled his eyes, "Yes Sir, right away Sir..." He paused, "Oh, wait one second and I'll be right back," He turned, heading for the door.

"What are you doing?" Kurt called as Blaine walked out of the room, shutting the door behind him.

"I'll be back in a minute," Blaine hollered in reply.

Kurt watched the door for a few seconds before he sighed and grabbed the comforter, pulling it over himself and snuggling down into the mattress. This was much better than the center of the flower.

Blaine came back around five minutes later, carrying the magic book in his hand and breathing slightly heavily;probably something to do with dragging the thousand page book up the flight of steep steps.

"You couldn't live without it for one night?" Kurt asked, raising an eyebrow.

Blaine shrugged, "I don't like leaving it on its own. What if someone finds it and takes it?"

Kurt watched him walk over and drop the book on the bed with a thump, "Let them. Its no use to us."

"You don't know that," Blaine pointed out, scrawling into bed beside Kurt and pulling the book onto his lap so he could flick through it.

Kurt rolled his eyes and snuggled into Blaine's side, sighing lightly and taking in a huge lungful of the slaves scent, "I don't know about you, but I'm exhausted."

"Sleep then, I'm just going to go through here a bit and then hit the hay too," Blaine informed him absentmindedly, flicking through the pages.

Kurt let out another sigh that got caught inside a yawn and closed his eyes.

......

Kurt was running up the staircase of the Palace, only his legs were a lot shorter and his hair seemed to be dangling in his eyes.

"I'm coming to get you!" His Dad's voice called from the bottom of the stair well in a teasing tone and Kurt burst into a fit of giggles, stuffing his fist in his mouth to muffle the sound.

The stairs were a lot bigger than Kurt remembered, but he finally reached the top, turning left in the hallway and pounding down the hallway on shoeless feet. He burst through the door that he'd been running towards the whole time.

"Mommy! Mommy! The monster wants to get me!" He cried, scrambling up onto her lap and resting his head on her shoulder.

Elizabeth Hummel burst into song filled laughter, holding her son close, "Oh no Baby, it's okay. I'll protect you. What does Daddy...I mean the monster, want you for?"

"He says he wants to put me in the cooking pot and boil me for supper," Kurt informed his Mom.

"Oh come on, baths aren't that bad. Besides, we need a Prince who's squeaky clean," His mother tickled his sides, making Kurt squeal and squirm in her lap.

"No! No Mommy!"

Elizabeth stopped and Kurt relaxed again, hiding in her shoulder.

"What are you doing Mommy?" he asked, noticing a brown leather book with strange markings on the front.

"Just reading," She told him, picking up the book and holding it so both mother and son could see it, "Do you believe in magic?"

Kurt nodded, "Only special people can do it though."

"That's right," Elizabeth agreed, "You're special my baby, you're so so special."

Kurt blinked, "Can I do magic Mommy?"

"One day," Elizabeth told him, flipping to the back of the book, "This book is very, very important. It made it possible for me and your Daddy to be together."

The young Kurt watched in amazement as she ran a finger along the seem of the inside and it opened like a door, a single piece of parchment lay inside.

"What is it?" Kurt asked, reaching for the paper.

Elizabeth held it out of his reach, "Not yet my dear. You're not ready yet."

"Not ready for what?" Kurt asked, pouting and folding his slightly chubby arms over his chest, "I wanna see."

"Not yet," Elizabeth repeated, kissing her sons nose, "You'll know one day."

"Ha! I've found you," Burt walked through the door and noticed the book, he froze, "Lizzy what did you tell him?"

"Nothing," Kurt pouted, "Mommy says I'm not ready. But I am Daddy, I promise!"

Burt chuckled and took the piece of paper and the book from his wife, putting it back carefully, "Your Mom's right son, you're not ready."

Kurt frowned at the floor.

"Come on, Monster wants to boil you up all nice for supper," Burt's tone turned back into a childish tease and Kurt responded immediately.

"No! No Mommy save me," He giggled as Burt pretended to grab him.

Elizabeth played along, cooing and yelling until Burt picked Kurt up under his armpits and carried him away.

Kurt laughed and wriggled as his Dad carried him to his fate, leaving his Mom sat in her room with the book and a smile on her face.

.....

Kurt woke with a start, his breathing escalating as he panted into the darkness. He fumbled for the light switch, blinking against the bright light as he tried to make sense of what just happened. That couldn't have been real. His mother died giving birth to him, and he was at least three in that...dream? It was a dream. It couldn't have been a memory. But how was it so vivid? He could still remember the scent of her hair and the sound of her laugh and...and...

He looked to the side.

Blaine was fast asleep, the magic book, the one that had been in his dream, open on a random page on his chest. Kurt grabbed it, his hands shaking violently as he struggled to turn to the back page and run his finger down the seam of the book just like his mother had done in the dream.

It opened.

His hands turned to fists and a small whimper left his mouth as tears cascaded down his tears in a waterfall.

"K-Kurt?" Blaine croaked, sitting up slowly and rubbing his eyes, "Are you oka-crying, you're crying. Babe, what's wrong?"

"G-God Blaine, I...Scared, I'm so scared," Kurt squeezed his eyes shut, more tears rolling down his currently ghost pale cheeks.

"What's going on? What's...where has that come from?" Blaine asked, wonder leaking into his voice.

Kurt didn't need to open his eyes to know he was talking about the compartment in the back of the book.

"A dream. My Mom. She...she opened it, I don't....," Kurt swallowed and took the same parchment that had been in the dream out of it's hiding place, "I was young, she said I wasn't ready."

"Ready for what?"

"I don't know," Kurt shook his head, his hands still shaking violently and Blaine wrapped his arms around his shoulder in comfort, "But whatever it is, I think it's on here."

"Kurt, Kurt breath okay?" Blaine reminded him, "It's okay."

"No. No it's not, I don't understand...she died, she died giving birth to me! How can I have a memory of this if I never met her?" Kurt cried, his voice trembling and hand clutching the paper.

"Shh, look maybe you shouldn't look at that," Blaine suggested, "If you're this scared just wait and talk to your Dad."

"No, I can't. I have to," Kurt shook his head, "I need to know. I need the truth."

"Okay, okay. I'm here," Blaine squeezed his shoulder and kissed the back of his neck, "You're okay."

Kurt took in a deep breath and let it out, trying to calm his trembling body as he unfolded the paper in a slow moment. It was a letter with a small diagram at the bottom. Kurt shoved it at Blaine's chest.

"Read it. I can't do it," Kurt begged, "Read it to me."

Blaine blinked, "Are you sure...?"

"Please," Kurt nodded and curled into Blaine's side, closing his eyes.

Blaine cleared his throat and swallowed before he began reading.

To my dearest son,

I have always told you how special you are, but now I think it is time you knew just how special that is. First things first, now take a deep breath,...

Kurt did.

You're half human, Kurt. I was not always a fairy.

Kurt choked, "What?"

"Shh," Blaine reminded him, "Just breath."

"That's easy for you to say, you haven't just...!"

"I know, I know. Just let me read."

Kurt sunk back against Blaine's side, "Okay."

I know it was wrong of me and your father to keep this from you, but it is important you know who you are and where you come from. There isn't much time for me to write this, so you'll have to ask your father how we met and fell in love, however the spell explained below is what made it possible for me to live here in the kingdom with your father.

The next thing you need to know is your power. We had no choice but to cast this spell when I was still pregnant with you, which means you absorbed the magic.

"What?"

"It says here, hold on."

Your magic ability will be stronger than anything that anyone as ever known, and you can train yourself with this book and become the most powerful and loved king that the world as ever known.

Again, I am sorry for not telling you this sooner but you are much to young to know of your origins. I know you much have many questions, but I have not the time or the ink to answer them all in this letter.

All my love always.

Mom.

Kurt jumped out of bed, wiping away the tears that were rolling down his cheeks.

"Kurt, what are you doing?" Blaine asked, setting the letter aside.

"This make no sense. She died. She died when I took my first breath," Kurt stormed across the room and grabbed a hoodie, yanking it angrily over his head, "I need answers. Now."

"Kurt please, its...its three in the morning, just..."

"No! I need them now," Kurt glared at him and stormed out the door, yelling "Dad!" Into the night.
