“Just a Medium Drip, please,” Blaine Anderson gave a warm smile to the woman behind the counter of the Lima Bean as he pulled his wallet from his back pocket, extracting just enough money for the beverage, paying for it. He then stepped to the side as he waited for the coffee to be made, running a hand through his slightly loose curls. Although the Warblers usually had such a clean look to them, it was a Saturday, which meant his hair could be a little bit freer. Granted, most of his time lately had been spent practicing a few songs for the group at Dalton, but he figured a coffee and some relaxation at one of his favorite places would be nice.
Once his coffee was safely in his hand, warm against his palm, he turned around, his eyes scanning the place until they landed on the table he almost always sat at; the one by the window. But it wasn’t empty today. Instead, it was occupied by a boy, probably around Blaine’s age, with brunette hair that sat on his head in a fashionable manner and skin that looked like it would belong to a doll. Oddly enough, after looking at the boy for only a few moments, Blaine came to the conclusion that he looked rather familiar, and although he wasn’t one to approach a stranger, he found himself walking over to the boy after a few much-needed sips of his coffee.
“Excuse me, but you look really familiar. Do we know each other?” He questioned, with a slight smile in the boy’s direction.
“I’m not sure, do we?” And as soon as the boy looked in his general direction, Blaine could see the dazzling color of his eyes; Oh yes, he has a beautiful voice. He’s my best friend, and also my only real competition. You would probably find him attractive, he has blue eyes and we know you love those.
Blaine’s smile became even warmer, “I’m not sure if we know each other, actually, but if your name is Kurt Hummel, then I may have heard of you.”
“Well then I guess you’ve heard of me,” A small laugh passed through Kurt’s thin lips, producing a smile from Blaine, “Kurt Hummel. And you are?”
“Blaine Anderson. I went to vocal classes a couple years ago with your friend Rachel, so we keep in touch and she’s told me that you have an amazing voice and true talent,” He smiled, “May I sit down?”
Kurt nodded, motioning to a chair in which Blaine sat down, “Blaine Anderson? Ah, the competition.” The smile on Kurt’s face was actually rather breathtaking, and the way his eyes seemed to move around periodically and show every emotion; sometimes it even looked like Kurt wasn’t even looking at Blaine, but more at something off in the distance.
Blaine shrugged, running his fingers through his hair slightly as he took a sip of his coffee, letting the liquid warm his throat before speaking again, “I suppose so. Though, I’m sure I stand no chance from what I hear about your voice.”
It was actually really nice to be able to talk to someone so easily, in fact in only a few minutes, Blaine had begun chatting up a storm with Kurt. They talked about everything from musicals, to their schools, to vocal techniques; it seemed as if not one topic was missed and before he knew it, Blaine had looked at the clock and realized it had been almost 2 hours. Though, he just wasn’t ready to stop talking to the male. Unfortunately, Kurt thought differently.
He could faintly hear a song that sounded similar to something from Wicked, but before he could figure out what song it was, Kurt was holding up a finger and answering his phone; “Yeah.” “I’m sorry, Dad.” “Yeah, see you soon,” And then he hung up. “Well, it was lovely chatting with you but I seemed to have gotten my dad worried about me,” He laughed that beautiful laugh that had already made Blaine’s heart flutter a few times, “He’s on his way to come get me.”
Blaine frowned, but only for a moment, “It has been a couple hours, so I don’t blame you. A guy like me can get a bit boring,” He joked, before biting down on his lip. He usually wasn’t one to get nervous, but it really wasn’t often that he met a guy who he actually could have a conversation with for 2 hours without even realizing it. “I’m usually not this forward, but I’d love to hang out with you again. I really think we hit it off,” He took his phone out of his pocket, sliding it across the table, “Put your number in my phone?”
In an instant, he watched Kurt’s features go from smiling and adorable, to some twist, painful look. “Oh, you’re exactly like everyone else. Making fun of me,” He shook his head, shifting his gaze downwards.
Blaine tilted his head, “I…what? Oh. You’re not gay are you? I just thought-“ But he was cut off by Kurt, who still had his head pointed downwards, but his expression changed.
“You…really haven’t noticed? The way I look around too much, or how I can’t seem to look you in the eye most likely?” Kurt shifted his gaze upwards again and after a second or so, it clicked, “Blaine, I’m blind.”
