Part 2  - Legally (March 15, 2018)

Kurt stood in the waiting room of the chapel, biting his fingers and pacing nervously.  "Relax, Dude. It's going to be just fine. You have every last detail planned." Finn said, breaking through his thoughts.  "I know! It's just... I want this day to be perfect..." Kurt moaned, shoving his hands in his pockets to stop himself shredding his nails.  "Son, look at me." Burt said. Kurt did so, and he continued. "It will be. It will be, because you're marrying someone you love. You two have been in love for years, you'd know by now if this wasn't the right thing to do. And since you're here, the answer is pretty obvious, eh?" His father's words reassured him, and Burt put his hand on Kurt's shoulder.  Kurt knew his father was father was right of course, but it took his father's words aloud to calm his nerves.

*
Blaine stood in the other waiting room with his mother and his brother Cooper and his old friend Mike Chang.  "Dad couldn't make it, huh?" Blaine asked, looking downcast.  "You know him, very busy." Ms. Anderson said, trying to minimize the importance of that. She knew Blaine had wanted him here, and wasn't happy that her husband hadn't obliged to his son's request.  "Mom, you don't have to cover for him, he's being an asshole." Cooper replied bluntly.  "I'm happy for you bro, Kurt's a great guy. It doesn't matter about Dad."Cooper silently cursed his father as he pulled Blaine into a one armed hug. Blaine's thoughts drifted to Kurt. His Kurt. And how much he loved him. Coop was right: He was marrying the love of his life today. That was all that mattered. "It's time, Blaine." Mike announced as glanced at his watch.

The strains of an instrumental version of One Hand One Heart from West Side Story could be heard from both waiting rooms in the chapel.  At that cue, Finn, Cooper, Sam Evans, Mike Chang, Artie Abrams, Noah Puckerman, all took up their places at the alter.  "Dude, If you'd have told me I would be standing up for Kurt Hummel at his gay wedding when I was a sophomore, I'd never have believed you." Puckerman quipped.  "Times change dude, shut it, here come the girls." Sam answered

At that, Brittany Pierce came down the center aisle in a royal blue bridesmaids dress carrying red roses and her usual daffy expression.   Santana followed her ex-girlfriend down the aisle in a matching blue dress.  Mike's expression brightened as he saw his wife Tina walking down the aisle.  Tina smiled the smile she reserved only for him as she caught is eye.  Quinn Fabray was next down the aisle, looking every bit as beautiful as Grace Kelly.   Mercedes' eyes met Sam's as she began her trip down the aisle visibly pregnant with her and Sam's first child.   Rachel was next down they aisle, keeping her gaze fixed on Finn.

Pachbel's cannon in D began to play as Kurt and Blaine began walking down the side aisles.  Kurt looking fashionable as ever in an ivory colored  tuxedo complete with kilt.  Blaine was dressed simply in a black tuxedo, with a thin lapel with one of his signature bow ties.

As Kurt's eyes met Blaine's all his initial nervousness vanished. This was his knight in shining armor, the love of his life, the man he wanted to grow old with.  As he continued to walk down the aisle, Blaine let go of the initial disappointment of his father not being there, and remembered how lucky he was to have all these wonderful people there to support him as he looked around the room: Mr.  and Mrs.  Schue, his Dalton friends Wes, David, Nick and Jeff, even Coach Sylvester was in attendance.  He of course caught the eyes of the New Directions, who had become a second family to him.  Most of all he was happy both his mother and his brother Cooper were there to share in his happiness.  He got to marry his Kurt today,  he felt very lucky indeed.

Kurt and Blaine met in the middle of the alter, and took each others hands in their own, looking deeply into each other's eyes.   "We are gathered here today to join these two wonderful individuals as one in matrimony, the highest level of commitment one person can make to another."  the officiant began.  "Kurt, Blaine, we are so honored to be with you today to celebrate your commitment and love for each other.  Please be seated."  The bridal party took their seats in the first row
Mr Schuester and his wife Emma Pillsbury-Schuester got up to read the following

Love is patient and kind;

Love does not envy or boast;

It is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way;

It is not irritable or resentful;

It does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.

Love bears all things, believes all things, (At these words Will took Emma's hand,and she continued reading)

Hopes all things, endures all things.

So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three;

But the greatest of these is love

Hand in hand Mr.  and Mrs.  Schuester walked back to thier seats, exchanging fond looks with their former students as they did so.  When they sat down, Hiram and LeRoy Berry got up to read the following ( addressing the words to each other)

"I Love You" by Roy Croft
I love you Not only for who you are But for what I am when I am with you.

I love you Not only for what you have made of yourself But for what you are making of me.

I love you for the part of me that you bring out.

I love you for putting your hand into my heart And passing over all the foolish, weak things that you can't help.

Dimly seeing there and drawing out, into the light all the beautiful belongings That no one else had looked quite far enough to find.

You have done it without a touch, without a word, without a sign.

"Kurt and Blaine, our charge to you is to always live into the words you have chosen to day, love each other, cherish each other, and remember how you feel right now at this moment. We wish you all the happiness that we have found together and all the more besides."  LeRoy said taking his partners hand and leading him from the podium.  The two men stopped to hug Kurt and Blaine and their daughter and son in law.

"Kurt and Blaine, will you please join me up here."  the officiant asked.  Kurt looked at Blaine in a sort of here-we-go way,  both rose from their chairs and joined the officiant at the alter. "You have come here today to commit your lives to each other, and have asked us all here to witness this commitment.  I understand that instead of the traditional vows, you have written your own to express the love you share.  Are you ready to do so now?"  Both nodded nervously...

Blaine took Kurt's hand, and put it to his heart.  "Kurt, simply put, you are the love of my life.   I can't imagine my life without you in it.  You have shown me what it mean to love, and have allowed me to love you in return.  7 years ago, I told you I'd been looking for you forever." Blaine paused, and began to choke up "I am so grateful that today..., I get to say forever to you. I promise to love and cherish you..... for the rest of my life, come what may.
Kurt dabbed his eyes, being truly moved at Blaine's words  while continuing to hold his hand.

"Blaine, you are the strongest, bravest man I know.  You are my first love, my high school sweetheart..... and today.... I get to call you my husband.  As we build our lives together....I promise that I will love you, care for you, and make what matters to you, matter to me...come what may.
The officiant continued the ceremony  "A ring is a circle, the symbol of eternity.  They are symbols of the promises you make today."  "Do you Kurt Elisabeth Hummel, take Blaine Gabriel Anderson as your lawful husband; for richer, for poorer, in sickness and health for as long as you both shall live?  "I do" said Kurt, placing the ring on Blaine's finger, eyes locked with Blaine's"Do you, Blaine Gabriel Anderson, take Kurt Elizabeth Hummel as your lawful husband; for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, for as long as you both shall live?""I do" Blaine said barely audible, his voice thick with emotion.
"By the power vested in me by the state of New York, I now pronounce you husband and...husband.  You may kiss your spouse."  The officiant announced.  Kurt rested his arms on the shorter man's shoulders and Blaine pulled Kurt closer to him, the two exchanged a loving kiss.
"All right Squirt" Cooper shouted commenting on the passion of the kiss.  This caused both Kurt and Blaine to smile and break the kiss, but not the loving gaze they shared.
At that cue Mike and Tina rose from thier seats to sing the final song, Come What May from Moulin Rouge.  The feeling that the Changs, who had been married for 3 years now, put into the song was felt by all the guests in attendance.
"It is my pleasure to introduce to you, for the first time, Kurt and Blaine Hummel-Anderson!" the officiant announced.  Kurt and Blaine, hands intertwined together, walked down the aisle, followed buy Finn and Rachel, Sam and Mercedes, Quinn and Cooper, Brittany and Artie, Puckerman and Santana.
The wedding guests lined the stairs of the chapel to await the bridesmaids and groomsmen.
"Sam Evans, you need to get me off my feet in the next 10 minutes or I'm never letting you touch me again.  These dogs are barking and I need to sit."  Mercedes complained to her husband Sam as he escorted her out of the chapel to stand with the rest of the bridal party on the stairs to the door.  "I know babe, we'll be in the limo soon." Sam replied kissing his wife gently on the cheek.
As Kurt and Blaine came out hand in hand of the chapel, the crowd gathered cheered and blew bubbles in celebration of the happy couple.  "So freekin charming." Santana Lopez snarked as she silently marveled at her friends.  "I always knew the Wonder Twins would get married." She quipped to Puck.
Slowly the crowd began to dissipate leaving only the wedding party to take pictures.  "Hey Mr. and Mrs.  Schue, why don't you take a picture with us!" Artie asked.  "We'd be happy too. So proud of you all," Mr.  Schue said looking fondly at his former students.  For the next 45 minutes they had an enjoyable time exchanging playful banter and taking pictures.

"And now here they are, the wedding party!" the DJ announced as Journey's Don't Stop Believing began to play over the loud speaker
"Introducing Brittany Pierce, Artie Abrams and Quinn Fabray " The DJ announced the three friends as they sang along with the familiar tune as they strutted into the room.  Brittany had been dancing in San Francisco with the Jose Limon Dance Company.  She really learned to focus on her dancing wand was enjoying the bohemnian life of San Francisco.  Artie had just graduated from PACE university in New York with his Bachelor's of Fine Arts in Directing.  He was now working at Lima Public Television as a director.  Quinn graduated from Yale, and was now teaching drama classes in inner city Chicago.
"Noah Puckerman and Santana Lopez!" was heard over the loud speaker as Noah escorted Satana to the table.  Noah Puckerman was working as a studio musician in LA and givng guitar lessons on the side.  Santana was in her first year of Law School at NYU studying to be a civil rights attorney.
"Mike and Tina Cohen-Chang" as Mike and Tina danced and sang their way into the room.   Michael was dancing with the Joffery Ballet company in Chicago, and Tina was finishing her BFA in Musical Theater at Columbia College also in Chicago.
"Sam and Mercedes Evans!"  Sam and Mercedes were living in Nashville.  Sam was playing in a country band and teaching guitar, while Mercedes was enjoying a career as a recording artist and had won several Dove awards for her Gospel albums.  She was taking a break at the moment to start a family.

"Best man and Matron of Honor Finn and Rachel Hudson."  Rachel had gotten a supporting role in the newest Steven Schartz musical, Finn had just finished his training with the NYFD and was assigned to a station.

"Mother and Brother of Blaine Hummel-Anderson,  - Susan and Cooper Anderson"  Cooper pointed and winked at familiar faces as he escoreted his mother to the head table.
Father and Mother of Kurt Hummel- Anderson - Burt and Carol Hummel"  "And here they are....the newleyweds, Kurt and Blaine Hummel-Anderson!"

"You know, they say high school relationships never last." Finn Hudson said at the beginning of his speech as best man.  "I guess the New Directions never got that memo, right Sam, Mercedes, Mike, Tina, Rach, Kurt, Blaine?"  He said looking around at his fellow McKinley High Alum "I asked myself why so many of us ended up together, ended up getting married.  I think it has to do with the foundation of the friendship that we formed in High School.  Thank you Mr.  Schue for helping us all to become friends, to respect each other and love each other.  Kurt and Blaine, I am so freekin happy for the two of you.  I see how you too look at each other, how you challenge each other, how much you two love each other, and I know the two of you have changed lives, but by being who you are, by the strength of your relationship.  It's pretty obvious to anyone that you dudes are two halves of a whole, you complete each other."  Finn turned to Blaine.  "Blaine, welcome to the family officially, I'm proud to call you my brother-in-law.  I couldn't ask for a better one.  Kurt, thank you for being a true brother and friend.  I'd like you all to raise a toast to the happy couple.  To Kurt and Blaine!" Finn finished raising his glass of champagne and taking a sip.  The other guests joined in the toast.

"Kurt and Blaine, My Tony, and My best gay, I love you two to bits!" Rachel said by way of beginning her toast.  "Today, you made a promise to each other, and if there is one thing I know about the two of you, you keep your promises.  As you might guess, having lived with the two of them for a couple of years, I have a lot of dirt on them.  I promised not to tell any embarrassing stories or anything like that, so I won't bring up your 21st birthday party Kurt.  And I won't remind Blaine, that I got to kiss him before Kurt did."  Blaine hung his head and chuckled at the memory. "I will tell this story however...I remember senior year, Mr.  Schue asked us to say what we were most looking forward to in the future.  Blaine, you said marriage equality in all 50 states, and you looked directly at Kurt when you said that.  I knew right then that in a few years you two would be were you are now.   As individuals, you both are incredible.   Together, you are unstoppable.  So, a toast to Kurt and Blaine!" Rachel raised her glass then took a sip of her champagne as the other guests raised their glasses in honor of her friends.

"As a little wedding present, Rachel and I would like to sing a song for your first dance"  Finn said grabbing another microphone. As Finn and Rachel took the stage the first strains of don't know much by Linda Ronstat and Aaron Neville began to play.  Blaine made small bow to Kurt and offered his hand, inviting his new husband to dance.  Kurt arose taking his husbands hand and followed him to the dance floor.  Finn began to sing...

Look at this face,I know the years are showing,

Look at this life,I still don't know where it's going.

Rachel joined Finn on the chorus.  Kurt rested his head on Blaine's head and continued to dance, as Blaine pulled Kurt closer to him

Chorus:I don't know much,But I know I love you,And that may be all I need to know.

Rachel's clear sorprano took over the next verse...

Look at these eyes,They've never see what matter,

Look at these dreams,So beaten and so battered.
Chorus:I don't know much,But I know I love you,

And that may be all I need to know.
So many questions still left unanswered,

So much I've never broken through,

And when I feel you near me,Sometimes I see so clearly,

The only truth I've ever known,Is me and you.

Look at this man,So blessed with inspiration,

Look at this soul,Still searching for salvation.
I don't know much,But I know I love you,

And that may be all I need to know.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, Kurt and Blaine Hummel-Anderson, with their first dance as a married couple."  the announcer boomed over the speaker as the song finished.  Applause rang throughout the hall.

Kurt took over the microphone, "Thank you everyone.  Usually this is the point at which the bride dances with her father, but as there is no bride, I would like to Invite my father Congressmen Burt Hummel to do something we've never had the chance to do together.....come on up here dad"  Burt Hummel hesitantly walked over to the dance floor, as Hurt said "Hit It"! The familiar sound of Beyonce's single ladies began to play.  "Alright dad, your doing this!" Kurt said as he began to shimmy. . Laughing, Burt joined in the routine.  The father and son pair cracked each other up as they strutted and pranced around, soon Tina and Brittany joined the routine.  The guests whooped and hollered at the hilarity of the scene.

When it was time for the wedding party to join in the dancing, Sam and Mercedes performed a memorable duet of Bad English's When I See You Smile that brought the house down.   Kurt and Blaine mingled with guests stopping to receive congratulations from and catch  up with family and friends.  Blaine walked over to the table of Warblers and dates, many of whom he hadn't seen in years.  "Hey guys!  So glad you could make it, thanks for coming!"  Blaine said as he hugged each of them.  "Wouldn't want to be any where else" David responded, "We're happy for you."  Taking a seat between Wes and Jeff, Blaine asked "Ok so catch me up, what is everybody up too?"  "I'm at Dalton coaching hockey." Jeff responded. "I love it."  "I'm development director there." said Nick  "I'm in charge of all the fundraising."  "I loved the gavel so much, I decided to go into Law at Harvard." said Wes.  "I finish law school in the spring."  "I'm teaching Dance in New York, but you knew that"  David supplied.  Kurt and Blaine had run into David occasionally meeting for coffee in the city after Blaine found out he was in New York via Facebook.

The rest of the evening passed with a mix of music played by the DJ and music played and sung by the New Directions.  Some of the highlights included a performance of Areosmith/ Run DMC's Walk this way by Artie, Puck, Finn, Sam, and Mike.  The girls got into the act with a performance of I'm So Excited by the Pointer Sisters.  Blaine joined the Warblers for a temptations medley that included My Girl, (Reach Out) I'll be there, and Papa was a Rolling stone.

The twilight of the evening found the old school friends and the Shuesters sitting around in a circle sharing stories and memories.  "Do you remember when Santana got up at your wedding reception and sang her new version of Trouty Mouth? "Artie asked Sam with a chuckle.  "Vividly." Sam replied shaking his head.  "Just in case your wondering, when Trouty Mouth Jr.  is born, there will be another verse." Santana remarked looking to Mercedes then Sam.  "Oh hell to the no, do not be giving my baby that nickname already Santana Lopez."  Mercedes quipped smiling.  "When is the baby due?" asked Tina whistfully.  Many of the New Directions knew she was hoping for a baby of her own after she graduated  "Beginning of June" Sam stated as he gently rubbed his wife's belly.  "Do you think it will be Asian?"  Brittany asked.  "Oh god, do you remember Finn forgetting  the ring at Mr. Shue's wedding!"  Mike recalled.  "I thought the Pillsbury-Dough boy would explode right there from embarrassment."  Santana teased.    "You can hardly call him that, Santana, especially since he was in the Army, My husband is quite buff." Rachel said defending her husband.  Finn flexed his muscles for good measure.  "It worked out ok," Mr. Schue responded recalling the mishap.  "It seems like we only see each other at weddings anymore." Brittany said.  "I miss my unicorns."  "I know, I miss you all too."  Blaine answered.  "I can't believe you all are grown up now, having families of your own."  Emma Schuester remarked.

"Quinn, when did you move to Chicago?"  Tina asked.  "Mike and I would love to have you over for dinner sometime."  "Just in January, I was doing some auditioning in New York for awhile, but got the job in the Chicago Public Theater, so I moved." Quinn responded.   "How do you like it there?" Kurt asked.  "Honestly, I love it.  I really feel like I'm making a difference." Quinn said.  "So Puck, how's life in L.A?" Quinn asked her former boyfriend.  "You know, pretty good, getting to play my ax in the studio and at some bars, meeting the ladies.  I got to play on Beiber's last album. dude has chicks everywhere." Puck responded enthusiastically.

"What time is it?" Mercedes asked.  "About 10"  Sam answered.  "10?  wow, the Puckster has gotta jet yo, I gotta catch the red eye back to LA." Puckerman said in surprise  "Kurt, Blaine, congrats and all that."  Puckerman said as he fist bumped Blaine.  "Peace out man." Artie responded to Puckerman.  Over the next ½ hour goodbye's were said and promises were made to keep in touch.  Kurt and Blaine happily retired to their own room in the hotel full of memories from their special day, ready to enjoy thier time alone.
